It was pretty late now. Even if there were guests at ho, he didn’t have to rush back.
And Jones had always lived on his own, he only went ho on weekends.
I knew that sothing must’ve happened. He didn’t tell , but I could tell.
"Alright. It’s pouring outside, so be careful driving." I glanced at the half-made bed, answering casually, "Well, saves the trouble of making the bed." Jones’s eyes were full of remorse and sadness. He ca over and hugged , "I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy lately. I’ll spend more ti with you, I promise."
I didn’t say anything and just nodded in his arms.
Jones left, driving off into the heavy rain. I didn’t see him off, instead, I was folding up the blanket and sheets in the guest room to keep the dust off.
I had a hunch as to why Jones left. His parents probably found out that he was here tonight and forced him to co ho. As for who told his parents, I could guess. It was definitely Damon.
But I didn’t bla Damon. Since the Dawson family’s opposition was inevitable, the sooner it happened, the better. The sooner the difficulty ca, the sooner I could handle it.
The next morning, I got up after only a few hours of sleep and drove to the District. The only ones accompanying were a driver and an
assistant
Once in theDistrict, I checked into a hotel.
"Well, isn’t this a coincidence?" No sooner had I finished processing my check in than Ariel appeared behind like a ghost.
I turned to look at her, took my room key, and left with my driver and assistant
While I was waiting for the elevator, Ariel finished checking in and asked, "Eliana, didn’t you hear say hello?"
"Ms. Brooks, the elevator is here." My assistant inford .
I nodded and walked straight into the elevator without acknowledging Ariel.
But I couldn’t stop Ariel from getting in the elevator. I had to share a small space with her.
My driver and assistant were staying on a different floor. They left the elevator first, leaving only Ariel and . As the elevator doors slowly closed, she couldn’t help but say. "You think you can break up Damon and with just Emma?"
Did Ariel think Emma was a pawn I placed to sabotage her relationship with Damon?
That was ridiculous.
"I don’t have ti to waste on you. Don’t flatter yourself" I answered indifferently.
"Of course you wouldn’t waste ti on , but are you really willing to just give up Damon?" Our reflections mirrored on the elevator doors.
Two years had passed, and while her deanor had changed, she was still very young. In contrast, I looked a little tired from the pressure.
I frowned, "If I wasn’t willing to let go, why would I file for divorce? I’m not an idiot."
"You’re playing hard to get! You didn’t expect Damon to actually agree to the divorce!" Ariel accused passionately. "At first, Damon clearly didn’t love you. He loved ! It was all because of your scheming that he developed feelings for you!"
I hadn’t used any tactics to make him fall in love with . I had just set up a few small obstacles between the two of them. Surprisingly, Damon didn’t react as he did in my past life but instead developed feelings for . This surprised too
"You’re despicable!" Ariel clenched her fist.
The elevator reached my floor. I didn’t care whether I was despicable or not. I took my fancy suitcase and walked out of the elevator to my room, using my keycard to open the door
Fate truly loved to make jokes. Turned out that Ariel was staying on the sa floor as , right next door.
"The one who’s going to secure the deal with Scarlett Enterprises will be !’ Ariel waved her room key, looking very confident
Scarlett Enterprises was the supplier I was trying to secure a deal with.
"Confidence is a good thing." I sneered coldly before entering my room, leaving her standing outside my door.
Even though I verbally mocked Ariel, I was also feeling uncertain. I didn’t have much work experience. This business trip was purely out of necessity.
After resting a bit in my room, I got to work. Before I knew it, it was already dark outside.
When it ca to dinner ti, I decided to have the hotel deliver the al to my room.
After hearing the doorbell, I went to open the door, and the hotel staff pushed in a dining cart. After receiving my dinner, I was about to close the door "Damon, I’m here!" The door next door suddenly opened, and Ariel’s joyful voice rang out.
She ca out of her room wearing a white bathrobe. Her hair was wet, so she was probably just out of the shower.
Damon was just coming out of the elevator. His gaze passed over Ariel and fell on .
Ariel looked back at , and her eyes instantly filled with vigilance. She rushed towards Damon, trying to throw herself into his arms.
"I thought you weren’t coming!" Ariel cooed
Damon’s hand reluctantly circled Ariel’s waist, not really hugging her
I quickly averted my gaze and closed the door.
Whether it was the hotel chef’s poor cooking or my lack of appetite, I found tonight’s dinner unappetizing. After only a few bites, I pushed the food aside. At night, after taking a shower, I got a call from Clara, "Are you in the District right now?"
"Yes" I asked while drying my hair.
"I just got here too! Haha, which hotel are you at? I’ll co find you." Clara said cheerfully
She was also on a business trip. I gave her the hotel address and my room number, then called the front desk.
Half an hour later, Clara showed up at my door, dragging her suitcase. She planned to spend the night here.
After settling her luggage, Clara asked, "How’s the soundproofing here? Did you hear the couple next door arguing?"
"Next door? To the left or right?" I asked in surprise.
"Right! I heard it when I was passing by. If the soundproofing isn’t great, then if they squabble all night, we’re definitely not gonna catch any z’s." Clara pulled out a pair of earplugs. "Thank god I brought these! Teehee."
Hold up, wasn’t Damon and Ariel’s room on the right? Are they seriously arguing? This hotel was top- notch when it ca to soundproofing. I hadn’t heard a peep.
"The soundproofing here is pretty solid. I haven’t heard a thing." I declined the earplugs she offered , "Let them have it out."
Clara breathed a sigh of relief, "Alright then. I’m gonna take a shower and then crash on your bed for the night!"
"Off you go" I said, waving her off with a smile.
After Clara went to shower, the doorbell rang again. My assistant had sent a ssage earlier saying there were so papers for .
I opened the door and took the papers from my assistant, who then left. As I was about to close the door, I heard the door in the next room open, followed by Ariel’s choked voice, "Get out!"
