Aaron got up, opened the door of the private room, checked the situation outside, then let Joshua sit on the sofa first, and then he dimd the lights in the

room to the darkest.

Soon, soone rudely pushed open the door and barged in without saying much.

Aaron stepped forward to stop these guys.

He said a few words, and they actually left

"Aaron, do you know them?" Sofia asked.

"I don’t know them, but I asked for their boss’s na. I’ve had dinner with him a few tis before."

Aaron turned the lights back to their original brightness, then looked at Joshua with a serious face, "Ms. Eliana, you need to ask your friend how he managed to piss off Lewis."

Who’s Lewis? I’m not quite sure.

Joshua shook his head, "I haven’t offended anyone. I’m just a regular office worker. I work nine to five. Today, I just ca here to have a few drinks with my colleagues, and I was beaten out of the blue"

"Lewis is just a local bully," Clara seed to know the guy. "In short, he’s a thug. I’ve seen him a few tis. We don’t respect him, but we don’t want any trouble with him, so we act friendly to avoid him ssing with us."

From Clara’s explanation, I got a rough idea of what kind of person Lewis was.

Although he was just a thug, he was always causing trouble, often stirring things up at small companies.

His main trick was to send people pretending to apply for jobs, then find reasons to start a fight, finally extorting money.

Many small companies had suffered from his dirty tricks.

But what did this have to do with Joshua? He didn’t have any money to be extorted, and he had no chance to offend Lewis.

We discussed for a long ti, but we didn’t co to any conclusion. It wasn’t until late at night that we called it a day.

Sofia and Aaron drove ho, while Clara dropped Joshua off at his rented place first, then dropped off.

On the way, I noticed that sothing was wrong with Joshua. His face was pale, and he was moaning in pain from ti to ti.

"All, let’s go to the hospital first," I suggested.

"Eliana, I’m fine. No need to go" Joshua quickly said when he heard my words.

I looked at him seriously, "Joshua, you need to get checked out. We can’t put it off any longer!"

Joshua tried to refuse again, but the next mont he passed out.

Clara imdiately drove to the hospital, where the dical staff rushed Joshua in for examination and ergency treatnt.

After the examination, I found out that his abdon had been injured, his spleen had ruptured, and he was bleeding internally. He needed surgery imdiately.

If I hadn’t taken him to the hospital in ti, he might have died in his rented room due to delayed treatnt.

I felt a chill run down my spine, and hurriedly paid the surgery fee, urging the doctor to start the operation imdiately.

When Joshua was wheeled out of the operation room, it was already dawn.

I told Clara to go ho first because she still had to work and needed so rest.

Joshua hadn’t woken up yet. He was lying on the hospital bed, pale and with an oxygen tube still in place.

The IV drip was still running in his hand, indicating that his condition was serious.

I rembered how he had helped two years ago. I was really grateful to him.

He might have been criticized by so people for doing so, thinking that he was too much for his ex– girlfriend, or suspecting that he had a special relationship with .

Back then, he was just a senior intern. He didn’t have a family background or any strength, so he could only rely on his upright character and conscience to make choices.

He had tried to contact over the past two years, but I didn’t want him to have any expectations, so I never responded to him.

I didn’t expect to encounter these things when I ca back to the country

I fell asleep unconsciously by the bedside, and was awakened when the doctor ca to make rounds.

Joshua also woke up. After he realized where he was, he thanked weakly, "Eliana, thank you. Without you, I might be in danger"

"Just focus on getting better. Take a leave from work, and don’t worry about the dical expenses," I comforted him.

"It’s okay, Eliana. I’ve saved so money over the past two years. Although it’s not much, I should be able to handle this", Joshua didn’t want to owe anymore.

I was sowhat relieved. The simple and upright boy I rembered hadn’t been affected by society in these two years.

After chatting with Joshua for a while, I had a nurse for him because he was in no condition to take care of himself.

After settling Joshua in, I left the hospital and went ho.

As soon as I got ho, my mom started asking about the situation at the party last night, whether I had t any n I liked, and where I had spent the night...

"Mom, as soon as Zoe appeared, all the n were attracted to her. All and I felt bored, so we left early. I spent the night at Clara’s place," I replied helplessly.

"is Zoe that charming? She brought a lot of money back to the country to invest this ti, and the person supporting her behind the scenes should be her foster father. Investing is risky, and you can’t

always make a profit. No one can tell what will happen to her in the future. What do you have to feel Inferior about?" my mom asked .

I almost laughed, "Mom, when did I feel inferior? I just feel that those n are all there for their own interests, and I can’t relate to them"

Of course I understood what my mom ant, but I would never feel inferior. I was not worse than Zoe.

"Do you think Zoe isn’t there for her own interests?"

My mom sipped her coffee and shared so information with , "She’s here for Coleman Co. She expressed her intention to cooperate with Coleman Co before she ca back to the country. Damon is really weird. He always had scandalous rumors before he divorced you, but after the divorce, he doesn’t have a single woman around him. Many people suspect that Zoe is here for Damon"

I lowered my eyes, keeping my face calm. I could understand.

Coleman Co. was not just influential in the city, It’s a big conglorate known all over the country, even globally. Plus, Damon was now in his late twenties and handso, making him the ideal partner for many wealthy won.

"Eliana, anyway, you must find a partner this ti you’re back. I’m afraid Damon will pester you," my mom said with a worried expression.

"Mom, do you really think your daughter is a princess? It’s been two years. How could Damon possibly still pester ? n all have their own choices, and so does he," I replied with a laugh

For the past two years, Damon didn’t bother reaching out to , and I haven’t received any calls or ssages from him. I guess he’s thrown in the towel.

My mom asked, half–skeptical, "Really? People online are saying that he only realized what he had after he lost you and he’s been waiting for you. It gives the jitters, I hope he isn’t waiting for you."

My mom’s comnt cracked up. Just then, my cell rang. It was Luna.

"Eliana, you sneak back into town and don’t even tell ?! And you went drinking last night without inviting , are you trying to kill ?" Luna hollered in fury

"Weren’t you busy with your kid? What if your little one needed mommy at night?" I retorted considerately.

"I don’t care. You’re coming over to my place for lunch tomorrow. It’s Mitch’s birthday, all seafood, you have to be there."

Seeming to rember sothing, Luna added, "Don’t worry, that man has so stuff going on tomorrow, you guys won’t bump into each other."
