I got ho and received a call from Luna who brought so fresh gossip.
Ariel was in the hospital
She wasn’t quite sure why Ariel was admitted.
"Is Damon with her at the hospital?" I asked.
"Yup, he’s the one who took Ariel Bitch to the hospital", Luna speculated. "Why would she be hospitalized all of a sudden? She’s so young. Don’t tell she’s pregnant?!"
My heart skipped a beat, feeling as if soone had discovered my secret. Damon had told that he and Ariel hadn’t slept together, so Ariel shouldn’t. be pregnant.
"I don’t know, let them be," I replied.
Luna agreed, "Yeah, forget them You’re fabulous on your own!"
After hanging up, I felt distracted and my eyelid kept twitching. I had an uneasy feeling, but I didn’t know why.
Tomorrow afternoon, I will be flying to abroad with Oliver. I hoped nothing ssy would happen.
In the evening, Joshua sent a ssage: [Eliana, I went ho for a funeral. I’ll be back in town this afternoon. Let’s have lunch together tomorrow, okay?]
: Sure, stay safe]
The next noon, I t Joshua. He was still holding his luggage bag, probably hadn’t even gone back to his place to drop it off yet.
He seed a bit awkward at first, but slowly relaxed as we talked
We found a food court in a shopping mall Joshua gradually opened up and asked about things overseas
"Joshua, did you know that Ariel also went to study in abroad?" I suddenly brought up the topic.
Joshua paused and then nodded, "I heard from a friend, but I don’t know the details. I barely have any contact with her"
"Hmm, it’s Damon who paid for her," I took a sip of water and continued, "I heard sothing. It wasn’t Damon who initiated contact with Ariel, it was the other way round. Did you know that?"
Upon hearing this, Joshua’s expression changed, and he looked a bit guilty. He remained silent.
I didn’t an to bla him. From a certain perspective, he was a man of integrity. Even after breaking up with his girlfriends, he never bad–mouthed them.
Otherwise, he could have made things worse for Ariel by revealing everything he knew to the dia during her cyberbullying period. That would’ve definitely added fuel to the fire
But Joshua didn’t do that. He wasn’t that kind of person.
"Joshua?" I casually repeated my question, "Did you hear what I just said? Do you know that Ariel initiated contact with Damon?"
It was then that Joshua looked at again, his eyes conflicted.
I stared back at him, my gaze firm.
Finally, he nodded. "Yes, I know."
Joshua had seen the ssages Ariel sent to Damon. That was why he was so upset back then. He found out that his beloved girlfriend took the initiative to contact a married man!
And Ariel knew that the married man got her contact through soone else.
Ariel had many suitors, and he always knew that. He was able to handle it.
Until Damon ca along and shattered his defenses. Yet, he kept Ariel’s secret and didn’t tell anyone
"I asked her why she initiated contact with Damon. Didn’t she know what kind of man he is?" Joshua recalled, looking much calr, but there was still a hint of confusion in his eyes. "She said her heart told her that she liked him."
I was speechless. So it wasn’t Damon who fell for Ariel at first sight, but Ariel who fell for Damon?
Our conversation left completely baffled, but I was pretty sure now that Ariel was the one who started it all
Even if she hadn’t initiated, Damon had already got her number. He would’ve contacted her sooner or later. But the implications were different.
It was like watching a rabbit being chased by a wolf, only to see the rabbit reveal a fox’s tail.
When it was ti to say goodbye, Joshua and I stood on the street. He kept sneaking glances at , and I knew it.
"Eliana, are you leaving for abroad this afternoon?" He asked.
"Mhm," I nodded
He looked a bit reluctant and lost, but still managed a smile, "Have a safe trip."
I returned his smile. Suddenly, he pulled into a tight hug, quickly said, "I’ll miss you!" and then let go.
He picked up his bag and ran towards a bus stop without looking back
I was still in shock when Joshua got on a bus. He sat by the window, looking back at until the bus disappeared from sight. I opened my mouth and wanted to say sothing, but I didn’t.
What a sweet college boy I hoped he could keep his pure and simple character once he entered society But it would be difficult.
What I didn’t expect was that this eting with Joshua would stir up a storm
Late that night, Oliver and I arrived in abroad safely Harry picked us up and dropped off at my place before heading ho with Oliver
When I opened the door, I glanced across the street. Damon probably hadn’t arrived yet. Since Ariel was seriously ill enough to be hospitalized, he must be with her.
I didn’t think too much about it. After a shower, I went to bed.
It wasn’t until the next day at work that I heard about Ariel’s condition from an enraged Karen.
"Eliana, you’re so cruel!" Karen pointed at , her eyes red with anger. "If anything happens to Ariel, you’ll go straight to hell"
"What happened to her? You’re talking nonsense!" I frowned at her
"Don’t you know she has a heart condition? You purposely upset her, and now she’s in the ICU, hanging by a thread. Aren’t you responsible for that?!" Karen accused passionately.
Everyone exchanged glances, not knowing what to say
When did Ariel have a heart condition? I had no idea!
"What heart condition does she have?" I asked calmly.
"She..." It seed like sothing dawned on Karen, but she held her tongue. After a few seconds, she continued, "She has a congenital heart disease, it’s pretty serious. She can’t handle any stress. So, if you keep winding her up, you’re practically a murderer!"
I kept my poker face, I had no idea she had a heart condition. I don’t have any reason to stress her out. If you wanna bla soone, bla her."
Karen blew her top at , "Eliana, are you even human? How can you be so cold–blooded?! Absolutely vicious!"
I didn’t even bother to respond to her, instead, I picked up my phone and shot a text to Joshua: [Does Ariel have a heart condition?]
Joshua replied pretty quickly. [It’s a minor issue. She takes dication and can’t do any strenuous exercises. She was pretty normal when we were together]
