If one were to ask the Saintess Charlette whether she regrets the things she’s done.
She would probably answer, "No, I have never regretted. Everything I’ve done cos from my sense of justice. Even if the outco was not as I wished, if ti were to start anew, I would still do the sa. I would do it even better."
But, what if she really could start over?
When the power of the Goddess was forcibly infused into her body by Mohe, when the vast will of the Goddess would overwhelm hers, her body, having once been close to the divine, would not shatter, at least not imdiately. But she knew, her soul would surely be broken by the will of the Goddess.
Even though the Goddess was already dead, the Evil Spirit couldn’t affect her, just the remnants of the dead Goddess’s will were enough to swallow her entirety.
If it succeeded, then who would Charlette beco, standing there?
Amidst the vast brilliance, she saw a true god for the first ti.
Though it was only a remnant of will, perhaps just so obsessions, mories, or final unwillingness of the Goddess – this emotion seemingly different from the reason the Evil Spirit is born – she felt Julia’s expectations...
The Evil Spirit did not lie!
Everyone would think that what the Evil Spirit told Doro was ant to deceive, especially since the Evil Spirit brought them here, sealing them with the power of the blessing, intending for Doro to make a choice. Naturally, everyone believed the Evil Spirit’s words must be lies.
Yet...
It was true.
She felt it.
At the mont of the Goddess’s death, beyond hatred and curses for her own creations, there was still a strand of expectation for A·Gedora.
She heard the echo of the Goddess’s will.
"My Hero! My destined Hero! Save ..."
Such a voice constantly echoed in Charlette’s consciousness. She truly felt the Goddess’s expectations for the Hero A·Gedora, knowing that A·Gedora would surely co, but...
But...
If, if A·Gedora had defeated the Demon King back then...
...
Charlette suddenly opened her eyes. She looked beside her. The Hero A·Gedora displayed a cheerful smile: "It’s surprising to see you asleep, Charlette. Though the Demon King has been defeated, being too relaxed isn’t your style. I know handling so many matters is tiring for you... but His Holiness says, as the Saintess, you have many ceremonies to oversee. There’s only two hours of free ti. We have to return."
As if rembering sothing, Charlette nodded: "Sorry, Gedora, after just defeating the Demon King, there’s truly too much to handle. I think, once this period passes, it’ll be a lot better. By then, I can step down from the position of Saintess."
"Huh? Step down? Is that okay?"
Charlette smiled gently: "Why wouldn’t it be okay? I have fulfilled the great mission the gods gave , I guided you, we defeated the Demon King. The world will enter peace, a ti of unprecedented prosperity... I can’t remain Saintess forever, can I? We must give young ones a chance, you know, many girls dream of becoming a Saintess."
The smile on her face grew deeper. She held A·Gedora’s hand: "After all, every girl hopes to et a hero like A·Gedora. But... you belong to ."
"Charlette..."
A·Gedora was a bit flustered; he didn’t expect Charlette to suddenly say sothing like that.
Yet Charlette gazed deeply at him: "What’s wrong, Gedora? Are you surprised? During our travels, didn’t you feel my feelings?"
A mont of sadness flickered in her eyes: "It’s my fault; I couldn’t show you my feelings. But now, maybe it’s not too late... Gedora, could you tell your feelings for ?"
"Charlette, this... I..."
"Don’t worry, Gedora. I know suddenly telling you this might leave you at a loss. The Demon King is defeated; we have plenty of ti. Our future is long. You can think about it now or take your ti, but don’t keep waiting too long~ Waiting is very painful."
She stood up, Holy Light flowing over her body, brushing off the dust: "The short laziness is over! I have to return to work! I really don’t want to face all that work! If soone could accompany , maybe I’d feel more motivated."
"Charlette... I’m sorry, I promised Adeline to help her search the sea for the missing Dragon Race, to see if we can find so dragon materials for alchemy. It might take so ti, if it’s a while, probably a month or two. The sea is vast, after all."
Charlette pouted: "Eh~ Adeline, that sly girl, using such a reason as an excuse, does she want to monopolize you? Well... whatever, she’s still young. But don’t hit on her, okay~"
"Why would I hit on Adeline?"
"Hitting on is fine~"
"Charlette!"
"Haha~"
Laughing happily, Charlette bid farewell to A·Gedora.
