Isadora grabbed the tree branch using it to hoist her body, her foot planted on a strong one as she pulled herself up to sit.
A smile found her lips when she got to her goal... a juicy looking peach she couldn’t wait to have a taste.
It had been nothing but what Kraven brought, it was either soup or bread. She definitely needed a change of taste because her poor stomach couldn’t take any more soup.
Suddenly, a dagger flew through the air, pinning the peach on the branch, its juices spilling away.
"I never pictured you as a climber."
The familiar gravel voice caused an irritated feeling to overwhelm her, the sa way the dead butterflies in her stomach danced.
’The loneliness of this place is getting to and now I feel sothing when he cos’ she thought with an eye roll, leveling her gaze to Kraven who had a smug grin on his lips.
"You’d be surprised by things I can do," she replied.
Climbing trees was a part of growing up before she was sold. She spent most of her ti in the forest because she barely had enough to eat.
Fruits and nuts were her other options.
"And it took minutes to get to that tasty peach," she said with a frown, eyeing the distance she had covered, it was all in vain now.
There was no way she would let that juicy peach go.
Isadora grabbed the dagger along with the fruit and took a bite. Feeling a tingling sensation her eyes leveled and found Kraven watching her, she finally noticed he had a wrapped cloth in his hand.
The silence beca awkward because all he did was watch and his silver eyes were always unsettling.
"You’ve been gone for two weeks."
"Did you do the routines I told you?" he asked, dropping the load.
"Yes," she replied.
Throwing practice, exercise, and sparring with the makeshift dummy he made.
"Good, get down."
"I was just getting comfortable."
"Don’t make repeat myself, Isadora."
She rolled her eyes, finished the peach, and jumped but caught a branch before she hit the ground.
Kraven could see this wasn’t her first ti climbing a tree, she had a habit of surprising him with things more often.
The mont Isadora’s feet touched the ground Kraven grabbed her hand and yanked her toward him, her back to his chest.
"And did you roll your eyes at ?" he asked with a grin.
Isadora tried to break apart from him but it was futile against his iron grip, so she did the only thing she could think of. Using his dagger to attack him in a fast reflex.
But Kraven caught the blade with his teeth and she used that opportunity to yank away from him.
Kraven took the blade from his teeth and licked it before saying. "You’re getting faster... good," he praised. "Maybe it’s ti to reward you."
"A reward?" Isadora said skeptically. That was the last thing she wanted to hear from him.
The past month with him had been a strange push and pull. She could see her improvents day by day but was still far behind.
Kraven’s lessons were surprisingly good and took his sweet ti with her. Either ntally tornting or letting her have all the power over him.
Isadora knew it was only to boost her confidence to take a hit but she was still cautious with him.
"Yes..." he replied. "The Hunt is a few days away," he said, sitting on the boulder.
’A few days?’ she thought. She would finally have to leave this confinent and be free of him.
The thought of seeing Rav again caused her to blush and smile to find her lips.
"Co closer," his sudden command snapped her out of it.
"Why?"
"Because I said so..."
Isadora stubbornly remained rooted in her position—crossing her arms. She had been keeping her distance ever since the day he nearly squeezed the life out of her.
Even though their spars had much body contact, she was always quick to move away.
"Co closer," he repeated.
Which he rarely does.
But Isadora kept her guard up and did not take her eyes off him. There was no way in the olden god’s na she would be in the sa breathing space as him.
Suddenly, she panicked as the shadows coiled around her, yanking her toward him and forcing her to sit on his lap.
"Stay still" he warned, holding her waist to keep her from squirming.
"W-What are you trying to do?!"
"Nothing harmful."
She checked his aura and when she found he was being truthful, she stopped her movent and stayed like a block of ice but her mind was on high alert. She kept her grip on her holster for caution.
Kraven traced her golden blonde hair, untying the ssy knot she made to keep the length in place, allowing it to fall freely. Her hair felt smooth and silky beneath his touch.
He took his ti as he ran his hand through her hair to untangle the ss.
His actions caused Isadora’s heartbeat to spike, she couldn’t see what he was doing but the mont he gathered her hair in one place, she realized he was braiding her hair.
Having a dangerous Fae like him, who had a presence akin to the god of death. The "Reaper" feared by people... was braiding her hair.
"W-What are you doing?" she asked softly, her hands gripping her knees tightly, unable to think clearly or do anything.
"Giving you a warrior’s braid," he replied. "The warrior’s braid is like a crown given to a ravenite, each plait shows strength, spirit, and identity..."
"I have never heard of that."
Her words made Kraven grin. "I invented it, think of it as sothing sacred."
’He did?’ she thought.
He must be very close to Lord Raven to have such authority here. Her chances to et with him increased and she couldn’t be happier and more impatient to get to that point.
