He Xiyan finally heard the question. She rubbed at her temples and thought for a mont before she finally said, “The basic principle behind the concept of ‘contrast’ is to avoid the elents on a page from looking too similar. She explained the concept in her own words.
After her summary, the lecturer who stood on the stage nodded proudly.
“Please be seated and pay more attention in class in the future,” the teacher reminded her.
She took her seat and she thanked her lucky stars that she knew how to answer that question accurately. Otherwise, it would have been even more humiliating.
Yang Jing dragged her to the end of the corridor after class.
“Xiyan, what’s wrong with you? You look extrely distracted. Is there sothing bothering you?” Yang Jing asked in confusion.
He Xiyan smiled awkwardly. She didn’t know how she could explain her current predicant to her friend and sothing was indeed troubling her.
“Do you not have enough money to pay rent?” Yang Jing probed further. She knew that He Xiyan didn’t have enough money and had to rely on her part-ti jobs to cover her living expenses and school fees.
He Xiyan didn’t know how to react.
She felt extrely embarrassed but she took a deep breath and shook her head.
Yang Jing asked, “Are you in love?”
He Xiyan blushed furiously the mont Yang Jing serendipitously pointed out what was bothering her.
She didn’t respond but her expression gave her away.
Yang Jing gave her a friendly shove and said, “Is the boy you like from our school? What faculty is he in?”
He Xiyan’s blush intensified. She had never been in love, so this was the first ti she had been asked these questions, so she felt a little ill at ease.
She smiled but she didn’t give her friend a reply.
“Let’s go grab sothing to eat,” she said as she tried to change the topic.
“Shall we have Western?” Yang Jing asked.
He Xiyan hesitated for a brief mont before she shook her head.
“No, it’s too expensive,” she said.
She kept strictly to a budget of 20 dollars per al. Western als were too expensive, so she couldn’t afford them.
Yang Jing smiled, looped her arm through He Xiyan’s, and pulled her out of the campus.
“Let’s go. It’s on . I won 5,000 dollars from mahjong over the Lunar New Year.”
He Xiyan didn’t know how to react.
They went to a Western restaurant that was located outside the campus. It was the nearest Western restaurant to campus.
It wasn’t a big restaurant but its business was booming because many students frequented this restaurant.
He Xiyan and Yang Jing sat at a table that was a little further away from the rest of the crowd.
They ordered two portions of steak, one plate of pizza, and two cups of fruit juice. This was a promotional set al and it only cost 238 dollars after discount.
Then, they started chatting.
Yang Jing spoke excitedly about her mahjong winnings over the winter vacation. Luck was clearly on her side for she could win 200 to 300 dollars every day. She hoped that the winter vacation would be extended for this would an that she could have accumulated tens of thousands of dollars in winnings.
He Xiyan was amused by her friend’s anecdotes but she didn’t envy her friend because she would never gamble in her life. It didn’t matter whether these were big or small gambles, she would not do it.
