~Catherine~
The roof was not painted and I could see what damage the water had caused in the cent. Twice it had rained for as long as I had been here and I had noted all the leaking spots here. With a few dresses that I had, Lala had made sure to keep them in a place where they would stay safe and not catch the moths.
I sighed and snuggled into the thin blanket. I did not provide with much warmth. In fact, I did not provide any warmth. It was only what Lala could afford and I did not have the hard to tell her that was just not enough.
I was about to fall asleep when I heard sothing. Soone scread and that made my eyes snap open instantly. Were the soldiers here too? Were they looking for us again?!
Last ti, Lala had rembered to wake up, but what if she was sleeping herself? She was the one who worked, not so it was understood. If she was tired I did not hear the noise.
When I heard sothing again, I knew I had to wake her up. She has still not co to my room. It definitely ant that sothing was about to happen.
Throwing the blanket off my body, I ran towards her room only to stop when I heard the voices coming from it.
"I know the royal family quest. I am a fucking rchant in the capital. I know it when I see it and this is real gold. What the fuck are you?"
"I told you who I am and I’m not going to do this with you again and again. I am Laura and that is it!" Lala’s voice was calm which gave the assurance that she was fine and had this under control. Still, I could not help but keep on listening.
"Won dressed like you do not have gold. You are either a mistress or a lady in waiting who fucking stole this shit. That’s what you did Laura, did you not? You stole it like a little thief and now you run the run with your daughter or Sister, whoever the girl is."
"I did not steal anything." Lala was snapped. "I was given this by princess Estelle for the service. I have had and so had my mother for Queens Cynthia. This was a gift that I have kept with ."
"Oh I see." Gerald nodded and for a mont I was released. He understood. " and you never thought of selling it because of course, what price with this size? Maybe enough for you to be comfortable for a while. We get married into a nice family, but why would you want that? I guess keeping sothing in gratitude is far more important."
What?
"Gerald," Lala hissed, "are you going to stop accusing for every thing? I have just given to by the Princess and gratitude. She is going to be the Queen one day. Do you really think it would be better of selling it instead of keeping it?"
"Yes!" He yelled and I almost took a step back and fear. His voice, especially when raised was very scary.
"Gerald! Keep your voice down!" Lala hissed, "you will wake up Jenna."
"Jenna, yes," he smiled, "tha girl—"
His head whipped to the side and it took everything in to not make a sound. Lala just slapped him.
"Do not take the na of my daughter from your mouth. Do you understand ?" Her words were shop, cut and clear in what she wanted to happen. Lala was protective of and she was brave enough to stand against as well.
He slowly moved his head back, and before I knew it, there was a sharp sound in the air and Lala was on the floor. She was holding her cheek and a whimper left her, just as his hand collided with her skin.
He slapped her.
Gerald slapped my lala.
"Laura, even for a minute, do not think that you told my household. Just soone I have taken a liking to and nothing more. Next ti you raise your hand on or even think of doing so, I will tell you exactly what I can do to you."
He raised his hand, and that’s when I saw the necklace dangling from it. It was my necklace, the pendant with the crest of my family ti on it. That was the last thing I brought with and she had kept it and when I started bringing my friends around in the previous village. He must have gone through her things and found out about it.
"Since you’re not interested in telling what this is doing with you, I think I am I just ask your precious Jenna myself."
I took a step back. He was coming for ? Lala might have the bravery to slap him, but I knew I would not be able to do it. I might not be brave enough to even run.
"Don’t you dare!" She scread but he was already on his way to the door.
Gulping, I thought of what I could even the only thing I can think of cost to run. Taking a few steps back, I turned around to run out of the cottage when I heard sothing thud.
Stopping in the middle of the small cottage, I heard as it continued and ca at a much more frequent basis. What was happening?
Going back to the room, I opened the door and saw Lala right in front of . Then I saw what she was doing.
She had a bamboo stick in her hand that she was hitting Gerald over and over with. His head was a bloody ss.
Palming my hand over my mouth, I took a step back only for it to get caught in my dress, resulting in to fall down. She had killed Gerald.
