I had always been grateful for Tristan to save . After that, not so much because of how the turn of events had turned out to be.
I stood up and got out of my chair. Maintaining so distance between us as I turned to look at him. "I have always been grateful for the fact that you saved . There is nothing more that I can ask you after that. But I don’t want you to reconsider all of this."
If he went ahead with what he had decided, a lot of us would change between us. I did not want to be turned nor did I want to get married to soone who drank the blood of others. It would kill to do so, knowing that the man I married to soone people feared.
He sighed, Appearing to be tired with a conversation before leaning against the table. "and what must I reconsider in lieu of? Killing you for treason? Is that what you expect to do in return?"
"Because Genevive, If I Had to kill you at the end, I wouldn’t have kept you alive and I surely would not have conquered a kingdom in your na."
I blinked. He had conquered a kingdom in my na? I had assud it would be because of.. his parents.
"I.."
"Finish breakfast," he stepped away from the table. "After that, my aunt will guide you through the day."
Without looking back, Tristan walked out of the room And doors closed softly behind him.
Since I had just woken up, I did not have much of an appetite to eat the breakfast served. However, I tried to finish as much as I could without sitting down.
Eating without constantly allowing my mind to think about what had happened was a grave and difficult task to complete. Just as I finished the last bite of food, I walked out of the rooms and was imdiately greeted by Anna who seed to be waiting for .
"Your highness," she bowed. "I shall take you to Lady Chiara."
I followed her silently. Because what was I supposed to say to her? Aana has just been doing her job and the recent change in her behaviour did not go unnoticed by .
Earlier, she did not bother hiding her dislike for but now, it was like she had excepted . Did Tristan talk to her?
Her eyes went to the giant windows. It was dark outside. The night had barely begun but it had been here long enough to put most of the kingdom to sleep. I was wide awake.
"Am i expected to be awake the entire night?" I murmured to myself as a thought. Sleep was the farthest thought in my mind, so it might work in my favour.
"Yes, your majesty. It is to accustom your body to sleep during the day and wake up at night like the rest of us. Also, it is being done To familiarise you with what is happening in the night." Anna answered effortlessly.
I may have forgotten the fact that vampires listen through almost everything. So, it was a given that Anna what I murmured to myself.
Chiara was found in a gaggle of ladies, most commonly what I assud to be the wives of ministers and vampires themselves.
When one of them noticed , she went quiet and then almost all of them saw . Chiara turned around, following their line of sight before turning back to them and whispering sothing, dispersing them all.
She walked towards , so graceful That she almost looked like the Queen herself. Chiara was like a queen, but without a crown.
"I think it is the first ti I have seen you awake so late into the night." She smiled, teasing one it was. "How has your night been so far?"
"Eventful." I murmured.
She smiled. "I expected it to be. The first few night are going to be difficult for you to stay awake but after that, it gradually gets easier. Co with , I’ll show you around."
Once again, wordlessly I spell into step with her with Anna following us. Chiara Pointed towards A few things. They were not random but they were also things that I knew from before. It was like she was doing a tour out of responsibility.
Nothing has changed in the palace significantly.
"You seem tired." She observed, glancing at through the corner of her eyes. "Tristan did make you sleep early in the morning. So you should not be tired."
"Tristan did not make fall asleep. I was unconscious, there is a difference."
"I’m sure." Chiara agreed. "But you have to get used to it." She shook her head, "after all, it was your suggestion."
I stopped and turned to her with unmuted anger. "When did I suggest anything of that sort? My suggestion was to punish because I carried out the act of treason. It was to punish , to execute if need be and to spare the lives of everyone else. So, when—"
"Punishnt does not necessarily an sothing ending in death." Chiara raised her hand and stopped . "you wanted him to punish you and punishnt that he has decided for you is you being married to him."
Disappointed, she once again shook her head lightly before looking away from . "I always thought that you would marry out of love and here, he is doing it as an act of punishnt towards you."
As much as I would like to say that I had thought so as well, given my position in my family, I knew I would never marry for love.
Maybe that was the reason why I was not as disappointed as she was. I had never expected marriage hours love. I had only expected to do it out of duty.
"Never mind that," she looked down briefly before sighing and standing straight. "Co with . We must go to the courtroom now."
