I blinked my eyes once.
Twice.
Again.
Again.
And again.
"I am really here, Princess." Dante confird my suspicion softly, concern taking over his face. "stop with the blinking. I’m not going to disappear."
"Disappear?" I whispered and repeated it in the word before laughing softly. " How many tis has he disappeared?"
His replied grimly, "He never went away."
Shock should have sent to , my legs should have given out in fear, my heart should have stopped beating. All of this should have happened but I did not.
Instead, I nodded like this was what I had been expecting all along. "Is he here?" If he was, then given his speed I had no chance of escaping.
"No," he shook his head, "He went weak and had to remove himself for a feed. I volunteered to be here for you."
"For ?" I pointed to myself, " You make it sound so omnius."
"It is."
"Why?" Damn the tears! I wanted to scream in frustration, they were clouding my vision again.
"because you betrayed him—"
"I tried to protect the people that had no protection over them! I tried to protect the people that were having blood sucked out of them—"
"You chose them over him, Genevive." He sighed, like he was tired of explaining sothing to a little child who refused to grasp it. "You chose soone else over his loyalty and love, his patience and not to ntion your bond."
"there is no point for !" I scread at the top of my lungs and a few birds flew away from the trees. "I don’t feel the bond the way he does! I am a human not a vampire and you all have to understand that!"
"which ans you left him out of your own will." His sullen face told everything that I needed to know. "The bond would have never forced you in any way until you were marked by him which you were for a brief period of ti but you had your feelings before then, way before then."
He knew he was speaking the truth. I knew it too. "The only act that you kept on with is denying your feelings or covering it up with the na of the bond, the sacred bond. Do you understand what you stand with this betrayal?"
I ignored him. "I am not denying anything. The man I fell in love with was soone else, not the Tristan that I am watching day and night, ruling the streets of Astria that he conquered forcefully—"
"The man you fell in love with was Tristan to you and he is Tristan to you now too. The difference is, he was a wealthy rchant then and now he is a wealthy king. As far as conquering is concerned, it is always done forcefully and I should not have to explain that to a princess."
A Princess? "I am not a Princess. Not until I return to my country at least."
"No, you are Lady Genevive," he corrected, "soone who the king has nad as his beloved. Yes, you are not a princess because you will be a queen."
I stared at him, barely keeping my tears on the way. But of course, the traitorous ones fell on my cheeks and his slightly furious expression softened.
"I should have controlled my anger," he bowed his head, "it was never my intention to make you cry."
"It wasn’t my intention to cry either." I admitted and wiped them away. "Why did you volunteer?"
He fell silent for a mont and my worries grew. I clutched the basket tighter in my hand as I watched him look at the tree towards his right.
"I had to warn for what was about to co. I did not sit right with because you were unaware of the consequences following your actions but as it seems, are you are aware of the situation and you have been on for a quite long ti."
He sighed heavily before smiling, "it appears I have to change the person I have to talk to. That is more difficult for than this."
"What are you talking about?" I whispered but knew that his supernatural ears would catch them. In one of the conversations, Tristan had let it slip that they could hear almost anything and Sir Walter had only confird then.
"Nothing that concerns you at this point," he smiled my way and it seed post and tired. "All I can say is, ponder upon the feelings you have because they are not coming from any kind of bond but your heart."
"And as far as I know, for a kind and pure person like you Genevieve, your heart could never lie."
"my heart is not lying, my heart is not saying anything at all!" I shrieked letting go of the feelings that had filled my soul. " Would you stop saying that?!"
"Never." He shook his head. "It is the truth and I have never been taught to lie."
"Lie for this once," I begged. My lip trembled for doing so. "Please," I whimpered, "just lie, for this once."
It was pathetic of to cry like a wounded animal that could no longer help itself when I could certainly do so.
But that’s all I could do. My legs gave out and I fell to the ground. The mushrooms and berries rolled out of the basket that tilted because of my fall and the cries, the cries did not stop.
I felt him near and placed his hand on my head. "this is the last ti you will ever bow your head in front of anyone. This is the last ti that you will cry like this."
I shook my head and continued to shake it. I did not want to listen to him.
"because the next ti you will see yourself in true terms, you will be a queen Genevieve and part of it would be because of Tristan."
"Stop it! STOP SAYING HIS NA!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, forgoing everything at this point. "Stop it!"
"Genevieve!" I heard a gasp and multiple footsteps before I felt hands on .
"My darling girl, what have you done to yourself?!"
That’s when I looked up and found him gone. Everyone that I shared the cottage with was around and he was not.
And once again, it all had beco a part of my imagination.
