Taryn hurried over to where Daphne lay and shook her. "Daphne? Daphne!" Daphne shook slightly and muttered sothing incoherent but that was enough to bring Taryn relief.

"Don’t scare like that..." she whispered tiredly.

Her heart was thrumming in her chest and her hands were shaky, for a mont she thought that Daphne had died from the attack.

She took out her healing balm and quickly began applying it to the wound on Daphne’s head when she heard a crunch.

In her panic, she had forgotten the cause of Daphne’s state was still very much present.

Taryn imdiately turned around. Behind her, slowly creeping towards the shattered door was the demon.

It had several cuts on its body dripping dark blood and it was covered in debris from being tossed around, but it was very much alive.

Taryn could not contend with a demon, if Daphne was beaten this badly then surely she would die in the first five seconds.

Why did she even need to defend her?

Daphne was no one to her, at least not anymore.

And yet, Taryn felt a sting in her heart. Before she knew what was going on, she had stood in front of Daphne, her staff pointing forward threateningly.

"Stay back, I said stay back!"

The demon continued its approach, stalking them a predator would stalk its prey.

And then it lunged.

It was so fast that Taryn did not recognize its movent. All she saw was a blur, all she felt was a wave of wind.

When she blinked— the demon was right in front of her, ready to shred her flesh to pieces.

But before the demon could sink its claws into her chest, she heard a whisper from sowhere below her.

"Shadow Excursion—Double."

Taryn watched in awe as the shadows in the room appeared to tremble, and then out of the walls by her side, two humanoid shadows stepped out of the darkness— in physical form.

It was like a solid mass of black, shaped in the form of a human. The first one seed very similar to Daphne but Taryn could not recognize the second.

The first shadow grabbed onto the demon’s approaching hand while the second pulled its arm back— and then together...

Boom!

They delivered a bone shattering punch right to the demon’s solar plexus.

The demon was thrown backward, breaking through the door fra of the door and exploding right through the front wall of the tavern before crashing onto the street.

"This is the third night boss, we aren’t going to find anything." Said an Ork with a stubby beard and tired eyes.

Although the queen’s shadows were always out at night, it was often done in shifts to give them ti to rest.

But these days, they had been coming out both in the day and late at night, prowling every shadow, creeping through every street...

Just for the sake of finding the demon.

"Shut up and keep moving, you’re a shadow, act like one," Tyris shot, keeping her gaze forward.

She understood her n but at the sa ti there was little she could do, even she was still aching for her fight with Xanthos, and yet she was still out there.

After all, it was her head that would be on the chopping block if they failed to find the demon.

They had been searching the streets for the past couple of days and yet there had been no sign of the monster after the first major massacre.

The massacre had been dreadful but the lack of action was even more botherso.

Tyris found it hard to understand demons. If it was a monster then they would have long found it but demons were sneakier and more deceitful.

What was its goal? Why has it been so quiet so far?

Tyris along with seven of her n were jumping from roof to roof to get an aerial view of the city but before jumping to the next one, she paused and stared down at the streets.

The chilly night wind caressed her skin, leaving goosebumps in their wake, but Tyris was unbothered by the chill.

Down below, people were going about their business, shopping, eating and chatting away.

They lived in the bliss of ignorance, not knowing that any second, dark horrid claws could reach for them and pull them into the darkness.

’Look at getting all pessimistic...’

Tyris turned to face her tired n. "Let’s circle back and check on the southern—"

Before Tyris could finish her sentence, the sound of an audible crash reached her ears. She turned her head in the direction of the street and smiled.

Most people would have mistook it for a simple accident but Tyris knew that in situations like these, accidents rarely happened.

Tyris sprinted back the way they ca, leaping over the roof at stunning speeds.

Not once did she slow down, not until she got close enough to the site of the crash.

There she saw panicked civilians running away from the area, hoping to get as far as possible.

Tyris could see a pile of debris on the road, as well as a dark figure and so she descended from the roof, running close enough to get a good look.

A second later, her subordinates landed right behind her, their weapons drawn.

Tyris took a step forward and observed the horrid figure. It was large with black skin, sharpened claws and crimson eyes.

She turned to the tavern by the side, trying to figure out what had happened. It was as though the demon had been sent crashing through the wall.

"Captain, should we finish it off?" Asked a man behind her, his face partly obscured by a dark mask.

Tyris raised her hand to stop him. "Wait, sothing is happening."

VWhoosh!

A long tail suddenly exploded outwards, crashing against the street and digging into the soil.

The demon convulsed, its body shaking violently as though it was experiencing a seizure.

In Tyris’ very eyes, the demon changed. Its long claws disappeared, sliding deep into its fingers and then one stronger, larger claw erged from its wrist.

Its head morphed and two curved 15 inch horns erupted from its skull trailing backward.

Its normally dull skin took on a tallic sheen, its scaly body appearing to glisten like diamonds. And then the rough skin on its back ripped open and out of it ca two leathery black wings.

The demon’s presence suddenly beca far more oppressive. It beca larger, more lethal and far more dangerous.

It evolved.
