Chapter 499: Chapter 499 - You Said You Loved

"It was you? You are Passion Fruit?" Giselle asked, her anger evident in each question. She was visibly disappointed with Robert.

It was unbelievable to her. She rembered that day when he was with Aliya, so how did they end up in the sa room? Robert remained calm, sitting beside her. At least she didn’t attempt to leave his office, which ant that she equally needed answers.

Ignoring the burning rage in her eyes, he proceeded to explain. "I was shocked and afraid when I woke up and realized what had happened between us. I was afraid that you would hate ."

"So you left

that fake account and played with my feelings," Giselle said, torn between disbelief and disappointnt. This was not the sa man she had loved and respected for so long.

Robert expected a worse reaction from her, so he considered her response rciful.

"No, I just needed ti to sort out my emotions. I didn’t know how you would feel about it, and I feared you might hate . It was only after you confessed to being in love with your boss that I decided to reveal the truth."

Giselle didn’t know what to do. The person she had feared finding out about was the one responsible for her pregnancy. It was a relief, but she still had questions.

"So you intentionally left your phone for

to find out?"

Robert nodded. "Yes. If you hate , I can understand, and I’m ready to take responsibility for everything. But we still have to get married," he emphasized, hoping to win her love along the way.

However, her response shocked him. "No, I don’t want to marry you."

Tears welled up in Robert’s eyes as Giselle explained her reasons for not accepting his proposal. "Do you have any idea of the sleepless nights I’ve had?"

"I had sleepless nights too, every ti I thought about how to break the news to you. I was also suffering," he explained, but Giselle found it hard to believe.

"How is that possible? You were with Aliya all the ti," she pointed out, unable to forget the image of them together.

Robert rembered how he felt when he saw her with Mark. "No, I got drunk when I saw you in Mark’s arms. I was jealous. I don’t know how I ended up in your room, and I don’t rember what happened after."

Giselle chuckled, wiping her tears with her thumb. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Anything. I promise no lies," Robert replied.

Giselle smiled and asked, "If you didn’t know that I was pregnant from that night, would you still have asked

to marry you so suddenly?"

Robert knew his answer would hurt her, but he was honest. "No."

Heartbroken, Giselle’s voice broke as she spoke. "So it’s just because of the baby. It’s not like you really care about ."

Robert shook his head and held her gaze. "You’ve misunderstood. I would have still pursued you, but it would have taken longer."

"Why?" Giselle was confused.

"Because there is sothing important I needed to do before I could focus on relationships," Robert revealed. He didn’t mind sharing it with her, but Giselle was upset and had misunderstood him again.

"Why don’t you work on that important thing while I think about my next move?" Giselle suggested.

Robert’s gaze showed his pain as he explained. "Giselle, you know I had a kidney transplant in my teens. My parents kept the donor’s identity from

and lied about it."

Giselle froze, not wanting to talk about that matter. "What does that have to do with my one night which resulted in a pregnancy and how you kept it a secret?"

"It’s the reason I couldn’t start a relationship with you. I feel indebted to the woman who saved my life. I need to find her and show my appreciation. I feel like I owe her my life," Robert explained.

Though they sat close to each other, he never tried to hold or touch her since their relationship was still not defined.

Remorse filled Giselle’s eyes. She never expected her decision to have such consequences. "You don’t have to feel that way. If she wanted to remain anonymous, it’s because she didn’t want you to feel indebted to her."

Robert frowned, finding her words familiar. "You sound like my mother, but the truth is, I can’t get over it. I vowed not to enter into any relationship until I find her. I broke that vow when I got you pregnant."

From Giselle’s perspective, Robert was only interested in marrying her because of the pregnancy. She began to doubt the sincerity of his love for her. "But you said you loved ."

Robert didn’t lie, sticking to his decision to be honest. "Yes, but I was willing to sacrifice it for the woman who made the greatest sacrifice of giving

life. I hope you can understand."

He was willing to sacrifice his desires for the woman who gave him life. Giselle was touched, realizing she had misjudged him.

Without holding back, she asked, "I’ve worked with you for over two years. How did I never notice that you carried such a huge burden?"

Robert seed to have everything together on the outside, despite being broken inside. He couldn’t let Giselle carry the burden, and he blad his parents for it. "

"Even if you did, there’s nothing you can do about it."

Giselle felt overwheld with guilt. She asked seriously, "Not even if I tell you who saved your life?"

Robert perked up instantly, wondering who else in the family knew. He would ask Giselle later how she found out, but right now, he was eager to know about the woman who saved his life.

"You know?" he asked, his eyes filled with tears.

Giselle nodded, and Robert’s heart ward. "Please tell . Who is she?"

Giselle continued nodding, and Robert’s eyes filled with hope. "I want to know Giselle, please don’t hide it from

like my parents did.
