Chapter 353: Chapter 353 – When the ti is right

What’s the question?" he asked, his tone serious.

Matilda lowered her head, and when she lifted it again, her eyes were red and teary. She asked him seriously,

"Devin, do you still love , or do you just want the child? Please answer

truthfully."

Devin’s resilience broke, and confusion washed over him. He couldn’t understand why she would ask such a question, and although he had a response ready, he sensed that she wasn’t prepared to hear it.

"I will answer the question when the ti is right," he replied.

Disappointnt flashed in Matilda’s eyes, and her resolve crumbled. She accused him in a painful tone,

"I knew it. You’ve fallen out of love with . You’re only with

because of the baby."

Devin found her accusation offensive, but he didn’t take it to heart. He knew he had been distant lately, but he had good reason for it.

He also believed that once Matilda understood the reasons behind his actions, she would co to love him even more.

"If that’s how you feel, I won’t argue with you. However, I still have concerns about the safety of the child. Until you can prove otherwise, I won’t care about these feelings you have towards ."

Devin anticipated a reaction or response from her, but she simply walked past him to the car and said,

"I’m ready to go to the hospital."

Devin felt a sense of unease, but he didn’t waver in his decision to not answer her question.

Things were so simple in the beginning, so why did they have to beco so complicated now?

After arriving at the hospital and receiving confirmation from the doctor, just as they had at the clinic, the pair returned to the comfort of the villa.

Both of them had people to talk to, which helped ease the tension in their relationship.

It was nightti, and with Matilda asleep, Devin decided to call her father.

"Devin, how are you?" the general asked as soon as he answered Devin’s call.

Devin smiled and replied, "Dad, I’m doing well. How about you? Are you at ho? I’d like to co and visit."

"Is everything alright?" the general asked, considering Devin’s desire to speak with him in person before revealing his thoughts.

"Yes, Dad, everything is fine, but I really want to see you face-to-face," Devin insisted.

He knew the general wouldn’t be angry about his request, but he still felt it was important to inform him through soone else.

"I’ll be back in two weeks," the general replied from the other end of the line. Devin felt relieved, but also felt the need to give the middle-aged man a hint.

"Since you’ll be back in two weeks, I have a surprise for you."

The general’s mood shifted. A surprise could be either good or bad, and he didn’t feel prepared for either.

"You should tell . What kind of surprise? Is my daughter causing trouble?" the general asked anxiously, aware of Matilda’s potential for trouble, which was why he had to confine her after the incident.

However, he relaxed when he heard Devin’s response.

"No, Dad, we’re both fine. I’ll see you in two weeks."

After hanging up and returning to bed, he gazed at Matilda’s peaceful sleeping form and gently kissed the back of her neck before lying down beside her.

He could only hope that she would appreciate what he was doing for her and not beco upset or cause a scene.

***

It was a Monday morning after Devin had dropped Matilda off at school following their weekend at the villa.

Devin had made the decision to encourage Matilda to start her own company and wanted her to co to school so he could test her maturity level.

His plan was to give Matilda the opportunity to differ her course, as she had expressed interest in doing so, once he had all the answers he needed.

He believed in her capabilities, but he also wanted to see her demonstrate the maturity he was looking for, not just when she was with him, but also among her friends at school.

This ti, Devin didn’t arrive too early like he usually did when he dropped her off.

He purposely arrived later, as he believed it was worth it based on the reaction and attention they received.

"Matilda, you haven’t been answering our calls. What happened?" one of her friends rushed over to hug her and asked with concern.

Matilda wanted to introduce her friend to Devin, but before she could speak, another friend appeared next to the first one, looking at Devin flirtatiously and asking,

"Tilda, is that your brother? He’s so attractive. Can you set

up with him?"

Matilda’s gaze darkened as Devin waited for her reaction, but he pretended not to be interested and went to sit in his car.

Matilda was on the verge of rebuking her friend who had eyes on Devin when the next one said,

"Wait, isn’t that Devin Cage? He’s the CEO and cover model for JC clothing. God, he looks even better in person."

Matilda was not pleased. She never expected her friends, whom she was at least five years older than, to be attracted to her man, who was about three years older than her.

Reality hit her that the very thing she had been ashad of before was what most won craved for but couldn’t get.

"Hey, Matilda, that’s a nice ride. Is it yours?" one of the guys she usually gave a lift to asked.

Matilda turned around and t Devin’s gaze through the windscreen, unsure of what to say.

She was relieved that she was wearing her engagent ring, but deep down, she feared that it might be too late and she had lost the special place she once held in his heart.

"It’s okay. Let’s talk about it later," she replied to everyone, feeling overwheld by the barrage of questions.

However, her second friend was persistent and didn’t give up as they walked away from the parking lot.

"Can you introduce

to your brother? Or at least give

his number," her friend pleaded.

Matilda felt irritated, unaware that Devin had secretly placed a tracker and speaker in her bag.

Not only was he tracking her, but he was also listening to their conversation as he drove to his office.

"He’s not my brother," Matilda responded, annoyance evident in her voice.

"Then who is he to you? A friend? You’ll still give

his number, right?" her friend persisted, oblivious to the fact that Devin was actually Matilda’s partner.

Devin’s ears perked up in the car, eagerly awaiting Matilda’s response.
