Chapter 341: Chapter 341 - I Still Love You

"I refuse to have this child out of wedlock. If we are going to have this child, then we should consider getting married beforehand."

Devin froze, shock spiraling through him. This request was unexpected, and although he wanted to give her anything, he couldn’t agree to a miserable marriage.

"You? Marry? Your focus is on your education, so no. I won’t marry you," Devin said firmly. Matilda’s heart ached as tears stread down her face.

"Then don’t bla

for what’s coming next," she said, her voice filled with tears. She stood up, about to run to the room, when Devin grabbed her arm and asked seriously,

"What are you talking about? What is coming?"

He loved her and wanted to marry her more than anything, but now wasn’t the right ti.

However, he feared that she might try another ans of abortion, like the pills Robin had guessed.

Devin knew he wouldn’t be able to monitor everything she consud. What if he fell asleep or went to use the bathroom? He was scared of what this woman might do.

He sensed her confusion and knew she didn’t know what she wanted in this mont.

"If you won’t marry , then I won’t allow my body to go through the process of carrying your child," Matilda said coldly, tears still in her eyes.

She yanked her arm away and began to run up the stairs, but he followed her, saying,

"I always wanted to marry you. You’re the one who put your education first. Besides, you’ve changed. Marriage wouldn’t be good for us, and the baby would suffer."

Matilda froze on the stairs, more tears flowing down her face as she said,

"You don’t love

anymore." She felt miserable and lost, realizing that Devin no longer wanted to marry her as he had promised on that day.

She also acknowledged that she had said so hurtful things yesterday out of frustration.

She regained her composure and realized she needed to make ands, never expecting Devin to react this way. Devin showed no remorse but considered rectifying the situation.

"I never said that," he stated.

Matilda felt a slight sense of relief, yet tears still welled up in her eyes as she looked up at him, questioning,

"Then why can’t we get married?"

"Because you’re not ready. Besides, we’ve already broken up," Devin responded, his heart aching as he observed her depressed and miserable appearance.

Matilda couldn’t fathom that their relationship had ended solely due to the events of yesterday. How could he give up on her without even fighting for their love?

"Devin, I love you," she confessed.

"No, you don’t," Devin coldly replied.

However, witnessing the lifelessness in her eyes caused by his words, he thought it wise to explain,

"If you truly loved , even just a little, you wouldn’t consider aborting our child."

Matilda’s resolve shattered, realizing the extent of the pain she had caused him.

"I’m sorry. I was just scared of falling back again," she said in a weak voice. Devin didn’t want to give up on her. He wanted to believe her, but there were too many signs pointing in the opposite direction.

"But you stopped wearing your ring," he pointed out. Matilda responded sadly, "It makes

feel old."

Devin felt bitter and shook his head. Then he asked her, "And you still want to get married?"

She lowered her head and said, "I’ve decided to put school on hold."

Devin was shocked, but he also feared that if he allowed it, she might bla him in the future for her inability to achieve her dreams. So, he said sternly,

"I won’t allow you to do that."

"Why?" Matilda asked, looking lost. Devin was honest with her.

"Because in the future, you might bla

and this innocent child for the reason why you didn’t achieve your dream. You might co to hate us."

Matilda wailed loudly, and more tears stread down her face. Devin’s resolve broke, and he wiped her tears with his thumb before gently cupping her face in his hands and saying,

"Matilda, you have a dream, and I won’t stand in your way of achieving it."

Matilda was in pain, feeling trapped in a deep hole with no way out.

But you expect

to bear your child without being married," she accused him. Initially, Devin was filled with anger, but as he saw her pitiful state, he didn’t want to be too harsh on her.

"We don’t have to marry just because of the child. We should marry because we love each other," he said softly.

Matilda wrapped her arms around him, although he didn’t reciprocate the hug, she whispered, "I still love you."

Devin gently pulled her away, locked eyes with her, and spoke sternly,

"Let’s discuss this later, but get ready. I’m taking you to school."

Matilda rushed down the stairs, defiantly stating, "No, I’m not going."

Devin sensed that she was overwheld by the news of him not agreeing to marry her, so he reconsidered, saying,

"Then I’ll take you there on Monday."

Through tears, Matilda forced a smile as she searched for a way to make her plea.

"Devin, I was mistaken," she choked on her tears before adding, "I just wanted to fit in."

Disappointed, Devin shook his head. Placing his hands on her shoulders, he asked seriously,

"Why would you degrade yourself just to fit in? Matilda, you’re a millionaire. You don’t even need that certificate to start your own restaurant and hotels. You could hire people to do the job for you."

Matilda stiffened at the suggestion, her eyes widening and becoming glassy.

Why didn’t you tell

earlier?" she asked, her expression suggesting that she had just discovered sothing. Devin explained, speaking softly this ti.

"I wanted you to make your own decisions and be happy."

"But you should have at least suggested it. You’re my partner, and you shouldn’t let

do whatever I want," she accused him, but Devin shook his head, disagreeing with her.

"The type of man you’re describing is controlling. I’m not like that."

Matilda shook her head again, noticing a contradiction in his statent, and asked him,

"Then why didn’t you let

have an abortion?"

"Because it’s my child. It’s my biological offspring growing inside you, and that’s not a decision for you to make," Devin said seriously, unaware that his words had shattered her heart.

"And I’m not yours?" Matilda’s eyes filled with tears as she asked in a trembling voice. Devin’s heart sank as he realized she had misunderstood.

Before he could say anything, she turned and ran upstairs. By the ti Devin reached her, she was already packing her belongings.
