I thought that would be the end of it, and everyone could take a breath and rest.

But just as Li Yi retrieved the Hanging Man Spear, he suddenly saw soone slowly walking out from a destroyed building nearby.

"Who?"

Li Yi suddenly called out, feeling an inexplicable sense of crisis.

It wasn’t just him, Lin Yue also sensed the anomaly, and her gaze followed suit, looking in that direction.

At that mont, the figure appeared.

It was a stranger with a pale complexion, rotting skin, resembling a Walking Corpse, but a pair of eerily glowing eyes were filled with malice, glaring at Li Yi and Lin Yue.

And there wasn’t just one person.

Very soon.

Figures began to erge one after another from the nearby buildings, appearing at windows, in hallways, and the dark corners of the streets... In just a mont, the surroundings beca bustling again as if all the people who had disappeared in the old town had suddenly all reerged.

Li Yi’s face changed at that mont; he recognized these things.

These weren’t people at all, but Walking Corpses possessed by fierce ghosts, just like what Liu Yan had beco.

But why, why were the eyes of these Walking Corpses all glowing?

That glow seed like the look of a Cultivator after evolution.

Could it be that these things were Cultivating?

If that were the case, it would be terrifying. Fierce ghosts Cultivating while possessing human bodies? That would indeed turn the world upside down.

"Li Yi, sothing’s wrong here, let’s get out quickly," Lin Yue shouted loudly, now sensing an unfathomable danger continuously erging, and the longer they stayed, the stronger the sense of crisis beca.

This intuition made her realize they had to leave imdiately, without staying a mont longer, otherwise even a Spiritual Perception Master would die here.

"Zheng Gong, Yuan Mingjin, sothing abnormal is happening here, leave the old town imdiately, don’t hesitate," Li Yi didn’t hesitate and imdiately started to retreat rapidly.

"Okay, we understand," Zheng Gong and Yuan Mingjin imdiately responded without asking why.

"Li Yi, co this way."

Based on her Spiritual Sense, Lin Yue sensed imminent danger and imdiately rushed with Li Yi quickly into a narrow alley.

The two were fast, and in just a few seconds, they had left the place of the battle, escaping from the most dangerous area.

Since Zheng Gong and Yuan Mingjin had been acting as snipers, they luckily were in a relatively safe position and hadn’t encountered anything bizarre, giving them ample ti to retreat. In just a short while, they had left the building with their sniper rifles and started withdrawing towards the outskirts of the old town.

However, just as Li Yi and Lin Yue had just rushed out of the alley and were about to choose a direction to escape.

Suddenly.

Buzz buzz!

In the nearby buildings, pairs of strange glowing eyes lit up.

At that mont, Li Yi and Lin Yue felt an intense pain in their heads.

"It’s the Eye-witness Skill... these ghostly creatures actually know Eye-witness Techniques, they can no longer be considered Walking Corpses that have been brought back to life, they are now Cultivators..." Li Yi realized then, the tiny figure seated on the Lotus Platform, resembling Buddha himself, suddenly opened his eyes in fury and roared like a dragon or tiger, forcibly resisting the Eye-witness Skill and allowing him to regain his senses, but he still suffered an injury, bleeding from his nostrils.

As a Spiritual Realm Cultivator, Lin Yue fared better without injury, rely experiencing a bout of dizziness, and she beca a bit unsteady on her feet.

But fortunately, the attack ca as quickly as it left.

Lin Yue shook her head to clear it, then imdiately said, "This way is safe. Let’s go this way."

Then she led Li Yi into action once again.

Indeed.

Lin Yue’s chosen direction was correct; soon, the nearby dangers rapidly diminished, but for so reason, Li Yi still felt an overwhelming sense of dread.

Suddenly.

Inspiration suddenly issued a premonition.

The next mont, a figure shrouded in a strong stench of decay burst out from a shop by the roadside. The figure was ghostly, with shriveled, darkened skin—it was an eerie dried-up corpse. The most terrifying aspect was that the corpse’s strength... seed to have already exceeded the level of Inspiration, reaching the Spiritual Realm.

A Walking Corpse with the strength of Spiritual Perception?

Could it be that this person’s cultivation had progressed faster after death than when they were alive?

However, Li Yi was not afraid and almost subconsciously threw a punch.

Muscle and bone resonated, Divine Power unleashed, and he t the attack with his fist.

Boom!

Accompanied by the explosive sound of Fist Power, the shriveled corpse was instantly repelled. Yet it did not suffer severe damage. Instead, a pair of eyes beneath the ssy, withered hair shone with a greenish light before lunging again.

"Leave it to ," called out Lin Yue as she clenched her fist to et the attack, her Fist Power also exploding, sending the dried-up corpse flying.

"Don’t linger, let’s go," she said, almost without hesitation, as she saw the corpse rise again, prompting an imdiate change in her expression. She then continued to retreat with Li Yi.

Unscathed after two punches?

This ant ordinary Fist Power was no longer enough to deal with such a being.

"Sister Lin, what was that thing just now..." Li Yi said while running.

"I’m not sure, but it seems to be a Zombie," said Lin Yue with a grim face, "It’s very peculiar. I can’t understand it, but what’s certain is that these creatures are cultivating, and their strength is formidable. The things we encountered earlier used Eye-witness Skill on us, and that Zombie just now had strength close to Spiritual Perception... These ghostly things are cultivating at an alarmingly fast rate."

"Why do corpses controlled by fierce ghosts cultivate faster than living people?" Li Yi asked.

Lin Yue replied, "Because we humans need to absorb the pure energy that seeps out from the wormholes, but Walking Corpses do not. Our world is already filled with copious amounts of Cosmic Energy. This energy is even more abundant than that provided by Mysterious Objects; the only downside is that it’s contaminated."

"But Walking Corpses are not afraid of contamination. They are bizarre creatures, so their cultivation can advance by leaps and bounds, far beyond us Cultivators. To put it more fantastically, our environnt is too conducive to nurturing evil spirits. The contaminated Cosmic Energy is both a barrier for evil spirits and fertile soil for their growth."

"So that’s it," Li Yi finally understood.

The reason why these ghostly beings were cultivating so swiftly was that they were directly absorbing the contaminated Cosmic Energy. That ant they were essentially soaking in an Energy Field, with the ability to evolve without doing anything every day.

It’s no wonder there’s a saying that goes, "For every asure of ’Dao,’ there is an equal and greater asure of demonic influence."

Entering demonic cultivation is always faster than normal cultivation.

"Be careful."

Suddenly, Lin Yue sensed sothing and abruptly stopped.

From a building nearby, three figures reeking of decay burst through the windows. Just as they beca alert, several dried-up hands with black long fingernails had already reached out in front of them.

So fast?

Lin Yue’s eyes suddenly narrowed.

The strength of these three Zombies was even more terrifying, no less than an Extraordinary Creature, stronger than ordinary cultivators in the Spiritual Realm.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Li Yi and Lin Yue were about to et the attack, but the next mont, three gunshots rang out.

The heads of the three Zombies imdiately exploded, and their headless corpses were blown away, crashing heavily to the ground. However, they were not yet dead and were still struggling to stand.

"Hurry up, don’t dawdle. There are too many evil spirits here, and I cannot exorcise them all alone," said a solemn, middle-aged man in the distance, wearing a Daoist robe and holding a sniper rifle, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Is that Master Pete?"

Relief washed over Li Yi and Lin Yue at the sight, and they quickly escaped the most dangerous old city district under Master Pete’s cover.

However, oddly enough, after the two left the old city district, they did not see those eerie creatures following them. It seed that, like the Spider Monster, they too had a territorial instinct and would not leave their fixed area easily.

Perhaps it was for this reason that the people living nearby could continue their lives in blissful ignorance, unaware that such terrifying beings lurked within two miles of their hos in the old city district—a revelation that would certainly cause trendous panic.
