Chapter 920: Chapter 896 No Reward
The silhouette of the Lord of the Dead manifested in the thin air, casting a dim glow that illuminated the cave in a dusky gold. He reached out, taking the Sword of Zariel from Lancelot’s grasp, and slightly lifted it into the air. Instantly, the whispers in Lancelot’s ears beca much clearer. The voices promised him power, authority, wealth, glory, and life, all for rely bending down to lightly touch the black fang on the ground, granting him everything the whispers promised…
Lancelot stood motionless in place. Such temptations had no effect on him now.
Cranvo cast a curious glance at the Human Knight, and suddenly, both turned their heads in the sa direction. A hunting spider approached them slowly, chunks of flesh falling from its body as it moved, like a wax statue gradually lting. Finally, it stopped fifteen feet away from them, having transford into sothing else entirely—a bizarre yellow column of sli, resembling a half-lted candelabrum with thin, spider-like arms protruding from it.
Lancelot imdiately recalled the na of this demon: Wax Demon, a demon that Kalalin had ntioned repeatedly. Although their power was not remarkable among the many Middle Rank Demons, the fear people held for them even surpassed that of the Barlow Fla Demon. The reason was simple: Wax Demons were the Servants of Rose, spokespersons of the Spider Queen’s evil will. Any Wax Demon appearing outside the 66th layer of the Abyss’s Spider Web was under direct orders from Rose, which never ant anything good.
Especially when you were about to destroy an Ancient Evil Item that could annihilate the entire Multiverse.
‘Hail to you, great Lord of the Dead.’ The Wax Demon’s voice echoed directly in everyone’s minds, sharp and filled with malice, ‘You have just killed a traitor to the Divine Kingdom. Her Majesty the Queen will be most pleased.’
“I am not here for her, nor do I need her gratitude,” Cranvo replied coldly, “Does the Spider Queen have any other orders?”
‘I dare not, but… Great Lord of the Dead, the item you are pointing at with your sword tip belongs to the Spider Queen,’ the Wax Demon cautiously said, ‘It was stolen from the Queen’s treasury by the traitor you just killed. I believe you understand the concept of returning things to their rightful owner, don’t you?’
“Interesting, the Demon Queen who rules the Zoel Elves wants to speak of reason,” Cranvo shook his masked face, looking down at the black fang on the ground, “If this is just a priceless artwork, I certainly don’t mind returning it to its owner, but…”
A golden glow appeared on the Sword of Zariel in his hand, quickly gathering into a bright point of light at the sword’s tip. In the next mont, the point of light fell with the descending sword, finally touching the black blade of Soul Eater’s Fang. Lancelot heard a sound like bones being crushed, and the evil item that threatened the entire Multiverse crumbled into a pile of dust, the sense of pressure, like being watched by a venomous snake, in his Spirit Perception vanished.
“I know what it is, so I won’t allow it to continue existing,” Cranvo said lightly and looked towards the not-so-distant Wax Demon, “Nor will I allow Rose to obtain it.”
‘You seem to have a deep misunderstanding of my Queen, esteed Lord.’
“Although no Zoel Elves have co to my Temple, many have been sent by your Goddess’s followers,” Cranvo’s tone remained icy, “And I oppose pointless carnage.”
‘That is certainly not aningless slaughter; Gnos, Dwarves, Humans, and those filthy surface Elves, they are all enemies of the Zoel Elves, a threat to our race’s survival. If we don’t kill them, they will co to kill us.’
“I can distinguish between a shield raised in self-defense and a sword blade descended for plunder, but I have no obligation to engage in a debate with you. Why, is your Queen too busy today to et ?”
‘Of course willing, but this is hardly a suitable eting place, perhaps next ti.’ The Wax Demon bowed slightly, ‘I told you, you have so misconceptions about my Queen. She also wishes to permanently seal this dangerous item…’
“Until a way to use it is found?” Cranvo interrupted forcefully, “Is there anything else, demon?”
The Wax Demon glanced at the pile of ashes on the ground, then at the enormous spider corpse nearby, and bowed in an odd posture to the Lord of the Dead. It then retreated into a dark purple portal that appeared behind it, while Cranvo kept his gaze on the demon until the portal completely vanished from the air, then finally looked away.
“That creature is indeed gone; there’s nothing of value left here.” He gestured to Lancelot, “Don’t worry, wearing my mask, it won’t know your identities.”
“I’m just glad that the Multiverse has escaped one of the many potential destructions.” Lancelot shrugged and extended a hand to the deity, “So, what about the reward you promised?”
“Reward? When did we agree on sothing?” Cranvo looked at him innocently.
“Hmph, fine if there’s none.” Lancelot pouted, “I wasn’t expecting it anyway.”
“Sigh, actually, those things wouldn’t be of much use to you, right?” Cranvo sighed softly, “I’m sorry; there’s nothing tangible I can reward you with…”
“Don’t say that, my Lord, your gratitude is the best reward, and I didn’t co away completely empty-handed.” Lancelot stared at the newly deceased Demigod Spider corpse on the ground, “I hope you don’t mind if I do sothing with this corpse?”
“By ‘do sothing,’ you an specifically…” Cranvo looked at Lancelot seriously, “Desecrating a corpse is not permissible.”
“Of course.” Lancelot shook his head awkwardly, “Just utilizing it, like skinning a wolf.”
“Go ahead.” Cranvo’s figure gradually blurred, “I should leave too. Once again, thank you, Sir Lancelot, I look forward to your visit at the Crystal Tower.”
“Can’t you wish a person well…”
Lancelot muttered in a low voice, naturally after Cranvo’s figure had completely disappeared. He patted the back of little Issa and said to the girl:
“Little Issa, can you find the way we ca from?”
“Yes,” the little Vampire nodded affirmatively, “I rembered every turn clearly.”
“Good. Go gather the others; we’ll rest here tonight.” Lancelot kicked the corpse at his feet, a blue Fire Lotus sprang from his fingertips, “But I need to clean up a bit, if everyone arrives early, they can wait at the entrance for a while…”
