Chapter 862: Chapter 839: Unexpected Cargo
“Yes.” The half-elf nodded decisively. “But this isn’t all. Since there are no specific missions currently, most people resud their original lives after receiving the news. These are the ones willing to act with … They will also follow your orders, Captain, as long as the mission helps the Raven Queen’s descent.”
“We still have to rely on you to find a way out.” Lancelot shrugged, “Got any leads?”
“Yes.” Tanya nodded, which imdiately enlivened her comrades, “I can now confirm that most clues are in the Witches’ Forest…”
“Witches’ Forest?” Lancelot was sowhat surprised, “Why?”
“The ntor later showed so new images…” Tanya lowered her voice. “They are still hard to understand, very fragnted, but I recognized so of the scenes: a black lake, a collapsed high tower, a giant barn—they are definitely places we went to in the past in the Witches’ Forest… I am not yet sure what exactly needs to be done to reunite the ntor’s form, but I guess the answer should be in the Witches’ Forest.”
“When we ca over just now, we noticed the Lich had dispatched heavy guards to that area.” Lancelot frowned, “Unless there’s so other event to distract the guards like last ti, it seems pretty difficult to sneak in.”
“I know, so we’ve been monitoring that forest, trying to find any gaps we can exploit. That’s how we discovered this convoy.” Tanya turned her head to look at the wagons, “I gathered as many people as possible in a short ti and hastily planned this ambush. In hindsight, it seems too rushed—the strength of those skeletal knights was truly staggering. Fortunately, you arrived just in ti…”
“We’ve been following the convoy for a while. Initially, we just wanted to see if they were really heading out of the Demon’s Domain. If you hadn’t launched the attack, we wouldn’t have intervened.” Lancelot also looked at the wagons, “At least now, we can find out what Peyton is trying to transport to the outside world, but I have a bad feeling about this…”
While they were talking, so people had already tried to open the wagon compartnts, but they quickly found that the compartnts were nailed shut tightly, making it impossible to open them without using forceful ans.
“We can’t drag these wagons back to the camp; it would take too much ti and wouldn’t be safe.” Tanya expressed her judgent to Lancelot, “Let’s just smash the compartnts open directly. Getting the intel is the most important.”
“Alright.” Lancelot nodded, “But I have a bad feeling—the contents inside might be extrely dangerous… Bruto, do you still have the yellow explosives Phil gave you last ti?”
“Oh ho ho, of course.” The young dwarf rubbed his hands excitedly, “I just knew there would be a chance to put them to use…”
There were three wagons intercepted by the group. Everyone worked together to push them into a triangle formation. Then, the dwarf crawled under the wheels and attached the explosives, which were obtained from a goblin rchant, onto the inner side of the compartnts. Phil might not be honest about the prices of his goods, but he valued the quality of explosives more than his own life, so there was no need to worry about the power of those explosives.
As for safety issues… it was goblin technology after all. Fortunately, dwarves were also experts in explosives, knowing how to store and use these dangerous materials safely, even better than the goblins who made them—not that the goblins didn’t understand, but those crazy little guys had a near-religious disdain for safety practices.
After setting up, everyone retreated thirty feet away, watching the dwarf light the fuse and start counting down from ten. When he counted to three, there was fire and a loud bang from the wagons, exactly as Lancelot anticipated. Judging by the scattered pieces from the explosion center, they had successfully blasted open the compartnts’ wooden boards. However, due to the placent of the explosives, one had to get closer to see inside the compartnts.
However, before anyone could take a few steps forward, the cargo inside the compartnts crawled out on its own—or more accurately, slithered out, because the wagons, heavily guarded by the Lich’s soldiers, were stuffed with giant, human-faced worms, exactly like the ones Lancelot had seen in that barn.
The worms appeared very aggressive, though they might have just been frightened. Either way, having a bunch of giant, crocodile-sized at worms rushing at you could really test a person’s will. The people Tanya brought along evidently failed the test; already extrely wary, they imdiately started shooting arrows upon seeing the worms.
Dense arrows rained down like hail, pinning those defenseless worms to the ground. Yellow-green fluids spurted from the worms’ bodies, and they let out painful screams indistinguishable from those of real humans, as if a massacre against unard civilians were taking place before them.
Initially, Lancelot wanted to stop others from acting hastily, but upon confirming that it was only worms, he gave up the idea of calling it off. Though still bearing human faces, these fallen souls had already transford into Fiends. Whether they would beco Tanari, Bartez, or Yugros would depend on whose hands they eventually fell into.
Moreover, because they were no longer human, their essence was no longer in the form of souls. Once killed here, they would be reborn in the Stygian River, washing ashore on so random lower plane to begin their ‘wonderful’ afterlife as Fiends. So, from so perspective, killing these worms was actually releasing them from the Demon’s Domain, a good deed of sorts.
“What a waste.” Bruto stood beside Lancelot, hands on his hips, “In Twin Bridges Town, these worms could fetch a good price…”
The dwarf was right. Due to the excellent plasticity of worms (especially those with an evil-neutral alignnt), they were hard currency in the lower planes, though not as convenient to carry as Soul Coins. If Lancelot’s powers were intact, he could utilize so Abyssal Spiritual Qi to transform these worms into Low Rank Demons. However, that thod was too energy-consuming, and demons were inherently rebellious. Unless subjected to enough violent threats or promised sufficient benefits, they wouldn’t obey their creator’s commands by default.
“Kill them if you must; they’re useless to .” Lancelot shook his head, “What concerns more is, why is Peyton Derrick transporting them outside? Isn’t this business between the Prince of Lies and the Witch?”
