Chapter 850: Chapter 827: Unbelievable

In Lancelot’s arsenal, in terms of sharpness, Starlight Strike undeniably holds the champion’s title, followed by the Sword of Zariel in second place, while Frostslash, enhanced by the Qingyuan Sword Technique, only ranks third, and there’s still a significant gap between it and the top two.

However, Liches are not known for their robust armor or extraordinary life force. Any of these weapons are more than sufficient to deal with such foes, assuming you can actually strike their body. That assumption was precisely why Lancelot was willing to take the gamble—Peyton Derrick could not have imagined anything that could threaten its core from such a distance. Even if it did, it would be impossible for him to react in ti.

In fact, the Lich did have so protective spells and magical items, but due to Lancelot unleashing the power of the Anti-Magic Stone, all of the Lich’s ‘precautionary asures’ lost their effectiveness (while Lancelot’s own transformation state remained unaffected because it was not magic-based).

He guessed correctly. As the sword tip pierced into the Lich’s face, which looked like that of a dried-up zombie, that was what Lancelot thought.

But right at that mont, what he thought impossible happened. Lancelot clearly saw that just before the longsword could completely penetrate the Lich’s skull, three different colored magical auras simultaneously appeared on the Lich’s body. The first aura infused a massive amount of negative energy into the Lich, which is equivalent to life force for undead creatures; the second magical aura created a semi-transparent protective barrier around the Lich, pushing Lancelot’s longsword out; the third magical aura opened a portal at a perfect size behind the Lich, as if a great mouth appearing out of thin air, swallowing Peyton Derrick instantly, and then disappearing without a trace.

Lancelot watched in disbelief at the spot where the enemy had just been; now it was empty. He had so many questions to ask. The Lich had definitely not made any casting movents. Even if the opponent had the ability to cast spells silently like Tijana, it was impossible to cast three spells of significant level simultaneously. More importantly, he had clearly activated the Anti-Magic Stone, and the Lich was undoubtedly within the range of the Magic Net’s disruption, so why could he still cast spells and escape from an utterly hopeless situation?

Unfortunately, no matter how hard it was to accept, the facts were the facts. The sudden roar pulled Lancelot’s thoughts back to reality; he now had to face the consequences of failure—he was now in the center of an undead army numbering over ten thousand. Moreover, because their master was still alive sowhere, these undead did not perish and remained perfectly intact where they stood.

From the perspective of his companions on the city walls, the distant mass of corpses bubbled like hot oil into which water drops had been poured. All the undead soldiers moved almost simultaneously, recklessly charging towards the towering Barlow Fla Demon.

Flas and sword light burst forth violently. Lancelot, as if surrounded by hyenas, instantly shredded all enemies within a fifteen-foot radius. However, there were simply too many enemies around him, and these undead soldiers, devoid of self-awareness, knew no fear. The body of the Barlow Fla Demon seed like a powerful magnet, attracting countless broken tal fragnts in the form of skeletons and zombies that sward all over the Fla Demon’s body in an instant.

Although they would be incinerated into ash within a few breaths, there would be more of their kind pressing down on top of them before that. If Lancelot were a true Barlow Fla Demon, or at least could maintain the form of a Barlow Fla Demon for longer, he would still have a chance to escape this storm.

Unfortunately, none of those assumptions were true.

“We must help him!”

Bruto shouted loudly, but this was not a suggestion. As he spoke, the young dwarf had already jumped off the edge of the city wall—due to the effects of the Earthquake Spell, the height from the top of the wall to the ground was less than ten feet. Kalalin and Alamir exchanged just one glance and jumped down as well, while Barrend and Tanya, who were behind them, hesitated for a mont before quickly making their decision and chasing after their companions.

It wasn’t just them. The Ravens that had just flown into the sky also descended, transforming back into human form and charging toward the Sea of the Undead alongside their running companions.

The distance between where Lancelot was being besieged and the city wall was only about six hundred feet. Even an average person could cover that distance in less than half a minute on flat ground. But the battlefield under their feet was muddy and filled with corpses that could trip them up if they weren’t careful. As they got closer, those undead creatures, previously drawn to the Barlow Fla Demon, turned to attack them.

A fierce battle erupted once again, with the living holding the upper hand this ti. Bruto, Alamir, and Tanya spearheaded the charge, tearing through the enemies ahead, while the others followed closely behind, maintaining the breach created by the vanguard. However, despite gaining the upper hand locally, their advance inevitably slowed, and Lancelot was running out of ti.

When only two hundred feet remained between the two sides, a sudden explosion marked the failure of the rescue mission.

The flash of light reached everyone’s senses before the thunderous sound. For a mont, the world seed to lose all color, leaving only pure white light and shadows. After the flash, the first thing to re-erge was the color of the flas—a red-orange fireball slowly rose amid the smoke, like smoke rings from a dwarf miner, followed by a deafening roar and a shockwave that knocked everyone to the ground.

It took a full ten seconds before soone shakily climbed up from the ground. Other than severe dizziness and the scrapes from unexpected falls, everyone was relatively unhard.

But had they been any closer, the outco would have been altogether different.

Ahead, the ground now featured a crater over sixty feet in diater, with smoke obscuring visibility. Yet the thirty feet of ground extending from the crater’s edge revealed not a single intact corpse. The explosion had completely shattered the bodies of the skeletons and zombies, suggesting the scene at the center of the blast was even more dire.

“No! No!! No!!!!!!”

Bruto’s despairing, heart-wrenching cries echoed as he repeated the sa word over and over. However, his voice couldn’t alter reality. Instead, it awoke the surrounding skeletons and zombies who had been knocked down by the explosion. These undead creatures wobbled to their feet, their gazes locking onto the group of living beings emanating the scent of flesh and blood.

“We need to leave,” Soveris’s voice sounded from behind Bruto, his hand covered in soot and blood resting on the dwarf’s shoulder. “Let’s go. Don’t forget the Lord of the Dead’s promise. He will surely resurrect our friend…”
