Chapter 838: Revised: Chapter 850 Completion of the Mission

Peyton Derrick had already left through the portal again, but the illusion in the sky did not imdiately dissipate. It continued to display to other viewers the joyous and grateful faces of those ‘lucky ones’ who had been ‘reborn’.

From Lancelot’s pure observer perspective, the whole thing was extrely ironic: these people were caught for no reason, made to look like they were about to be killed as sacrifices, scared half to death ntally, and then told that ‘God’ loves them, that they won’t die but will attain true immortality. As a result, after being tornted, the mortals instead beca grateful to this ‘God’. Lancelot just felt an indescribable oddness.

Thinking it over carefully, it’s not just this Lich; many real deities seem to have had similar stories too, right?

Another ridge crossed, the huge skeleton-shaped entrance of the ancient temple suddenly appeared in his sight. Lancelot and his companions flew into the empty eye socket of the skeleton, expertly navigating the path within. They quickly arrived at the hall with the stone gate. The stone gate closed tightly again, but as soon as Lancelot and his group approached, it opened automatically with a rumbling sound.

The companions passed through the curtain-like darkness beyond the gate and entered the Lord of the Dead’s sanctum, now pristine and solemn again. They imdiately noticed a tall figure sitting in the front row of the audience seats; it was Cranvo himself (or his incarnation).

The group slowed their steps and approached the deity reading sothing. The Lord of the Dead put on his silver-white mask, hiding all his emotions, but he still clearly froze for a mont upon seeing Lancelot.

“My eyes can see the true nature of things, but the surface is visible as well.” The Lord of the Dead said with a seemingly suppressed amusent, “Though I have seen it in Princess Elizabeth’s mory, dear Lansna, you are indeed very beautiful in person.”

At this mont, “Uh…” Lancelot’s expression stiffened. He quickly took off the transforming ring, reverting to his human knight appearance, “Sorry, I forgot…”

“No worries, it’s understandable.” Cranvo nodded solemnly, “Your situation involves soul and body integration, which can happen over ti. Don’t panic, it’s normal.”

“I was simply in a hurry and forgot…” Lancelot found his explanation weak and quickly changed the subject, taking out the leg bone wrapped in layers, “This is Peyton Derrick’s missing thigh bone.”

“So soon?” Cranvo’s voice showed so surprise, but he didn’t respond imdiately. Instead, he turned to look at the zombie princess shrinking at the back, “Fran, your parents have been very worried since you left. Go greet them quickly…”

“Yes, my Lord.” Fran imdiately nodded, accepting the divine command, then turned to Soveris and whispered to the elf, “You co with .”

“Huh? ?” Soveris blinked confusedly, “Didn’t say I needed to go?”

“Co if you want!” Fran glared fiercely at him and turned to move toward the stairs to the high platform, leaving the elf standing there puzzled.

“She probably wants you to et her parents.” Lancelot reminded, “Are you sure you’re not going?”

“Ah, ah, ah, yes! I must go!” The elf finally reacted and hurriedly chased after, “Wait for , Princess!”

“Fla-haired lady would likely enjoy your company.” The Lord of the Dead smiled at Lancelot, his silver mask now gone. He waved his hand, making a stone table and two chairs appear out of thin air before him, “Please sit, Sir Lancelot, and tell what happened…”

“I… I’ll make tea for everyone!” Little Elizabeth’s figure flashed, disappearing into Lancelot’s dinsional bag at his waist, and a few seconds later, flying out with a kettle and a complete tea set, busily preparing with skilled but sowhat hurried hands.

“Thank you, Miss Elizabeth.” Cranvo politely nodded to the little vampire, “You have a very excellent maid, Sir Lancelot.”

“Little Elizabeth is the best.” Lancelot smiled and nodded, “Lord Cranvo, shortly after we last spoke, we received urgent intelligence that the Lich’s undead army had already entered Chadegory Town…”

Lancelot’s tone gradually beca serious. He spent about ten minutes briefly explaining the cause and effect of the situation. The Lord of the Dead listened very carefully, not interrupting the human knight’s narration, only occasionally nodding to indicate he should continue.

“After confirming the Lich’s body was present, I worried it might sense its missing part, so I decided to leave imdiately and head this way as fast as possible. As for the situation in the city later, we have to wait for the scouts’ reports, but judging from the projection in the sky, I fear…”

“I’ve also seen the images in the sky.” Cranvo suddenly slamd the book he was reading shut, a deep-seated anger in his tone, “It’s truly heinous…”

Lancelot glanced at the book the deity was reading and saw the title on the cover, “Ancient and Noble, Protected by Gods, The Lineage and Family Tree of Derrick Kings.” A to likely to put him to sleep, but for Cranvo, a Grim Reaper, reading it might be a completely different experience.

“I know Peyton Derrick is not a true god.” Lancelot said worriedly, “But the ritual it created…”

“Can make people believe it’s a true god.” Cranvo finished the sentence.

“But this doesn’t change anything… right?”

“First, I must admit, I don’t know much about this area myself.” Cranvo crossed his hands, resting them in front of his nose, “But as the Lord of the Dead, one of the powerful divine beings in the Multiverse, I can still access so ‘rules’ about gods and divine offices. Consider this scenario: In a place without a king, soone suddenly jumps out and claims to be the child of the forr king, that the throne should be inherited by them, and presents a complete lineage, birth certificates, and bloodline docunts, and everyone in the kingdom recognizes the authenticity of those proofs… In such a case, does it really matter if the person is truly of royal blood or not?”
