Naomi let out a deep sigh, slumping against the table as she stared blankly at the half-eaten al in front of her. The small eatery around her buzzed with quiet chatter, the clinking of plates and occasional bursts of laughter filling the air. But none of it reached her.
She was exhausted—ntally, physically, everything. Life had a way of beating her down lately, and today had been no different. Nothing seed to go right.
Maybe I should just go ho… she thought, poking at her food with a tired expression.
And then, just as she was about to drown in her own misery, soone sat down across from her.
The chair barely made a sound, but Naomi felt it—the presence. Strong, yet effortless. Her eyes flickered up, and for a mont, she forgot how to breathe.
The man sitting opposite her was… unreal.
Long black hair, neatly tied in a ponytail, cascaded over his shoulders, smooth like silk. His golden eyes shimred, bright and warm, like sunlight spilling through autumn leaves. And that smile… that smile. It wasn't just charming—it was the kind of smile that could thaw even the coldest winter, making the world feel lighter, even for a second.
"Hey," he said, voice smooth and rich, laced with an easy confidence. "My na's Adams, and I'm new in town."
Naomi blinked. Once. Twice.
What the hell?
Her brain scrambled for a response, but nothing ca out. This had to be so kind of prank, right? Handso strangers didn't just appear out of nowhere and sit across from her like they were in so kind of romance ani.
Okay, stay cool, Naomi. Don't embarrass yourself.
She swallowed, sitting up a little straighter, but she could still feel her heart doing ridiculous flips in her chest.
"Uh… okay?" she finally managed, her voice slightly unsure. "And… you're sitting here because?"
Adams rested his chin on one hand, still smiling. "Because you look like you could use so company." Stay connected via My Virtual Library Empire
Naomi stared at him.
What kind of line is that?!
She wanted to roll her eyes, maybe scoff, but instead, she just felt… flustered. She wasn't used to people talking to her like this—especially soone who looked like they walked straight out of a fantasy novel.
"You don't even know ," she muttered, looking away, trying to calm the heat rising to her cheeks.
"I don't have to," Adams said easily. "You just seem like soone who's had a rough day. And I figured, why eat alone when you could have so company?"
Naomi blinked again. Was this guy for real? Who talks like this? He sounded like the kind of character that would make fangirls lose their minds.
And yet… there was sothing about him. Sothing in his voice, his expression, the way he carried himself—like he wasn't just saying things to be smooth. He ant it.
For the first ti in hours, maybe even days, she felt a little lighter.
She sighed, shaking her head, but a small, reluctant smile tugged at her lips. "Fine. Do whatever you want."
Adams grinned. "Gladly."
And just like that, the world didn't feel as heavy anymore.
Naomi still wasn't sure what to make of Adams, but there he was—completely at ease, like sitting across from a total stranger and striking up a conversation was the most natural thing in the world.
She picked up her fork, still skeptical, and gave him a sideways glance. "So… new in town, huh?"
"That's right." Adams leaned back in his chair, studying her with those golden eyes that seed to see more than she was comfortable with. "Figured I'd explore a little. Get to know the place. Maybe et so interesting people."
Naomi raised an eyebrow. "And out of all the people in this place, you picked ?"
He smirked. "You seed the most interesting."
She let out a short laugh, shaking her head. "Yeah, sure. You saw a girl looking like she lost a fight with life and thought, 'That one. That's the one I want to talk to.'"
"Exactly." Adams didn't even hesitate.
Naomi blinked. He was so damn confident about it, like he genuinely ant every word.
"…You're weird."
"Maybe." He shrugged. "But at least you're not bored anymore."
She opened her mouth to argue but then stopped. He wasn't wrong. A few minutes ago, she'd been drowning in her own thoughts, feeling like the weight of the world was pressing down on her. Now? Now she was talking to a complete stranger who radiated an energy she couldn't quite describe—calm, yet intense, like he was both completely present and sohow far beyond everything around him.
And despite herself… she didn't hate it.
She sighed, resting her chin on her hand as she eyed him. "Alright, Adams. Since you're so interested in talking to , let's hear it—what brings you to this city?"
His smile didn't fade, but there was sothing in his eyes. A flicker of amusent, like she'd just asked a question far bigger than she realized.
"Let's just say I like seeing new places," he said, voice smooth. "eting new people. Sotis, all it takes is one conversation to change everything."
Naomi scoffed. "That sounds suspiciously deep for a guy who just sat down at my table five minutes ago."
Adams chuckled. "You'd be surprised how much can happen in five minutes."
She narrowed her eyes at him, trying to figure out if he was ssing with her or if he actually believed the things he was saying. Either way, he had her attention now.
Before she could press further, a voice cut through the quiet hum of the eatery.
"Naomi?"
She turned toward the source, and her stomach imdiately twisted into a knot.
Standing by the entrance was Caleb. Her ex. The last person she wanted to see right now.
His eyes flicked between her and Adams, his expression shifting—surprise, confusion, and sothing else she couldn't quite place.
Naomi's grip tightened around her fork. Of course this would happen now.
Caleb hesitated for a second before stepping closer. "Didn't expect to see you here."
"Yeah, well," Naomi said, forcing her voice to stay neutral, "I could say the sa to you."
Caleb's gaze shifted back to Adams, and for the first ti since he sat down, Adams actually acknowledged him, turning his head slightly, eyes unreadable.
Sothing about that simple movent made Caleb pause.
Naomi noticed it, too. The atmosphere shifted—not in a way she could explain, but it was there. Subtle. A quiet tension settling in the air, like sothing just beneath the surface had shifted.
Caleb cleared his throat. "So… who's this?"
Before Naomi could say anything, Adams spoke.
"Just soone keeping her company," he said smoothly, but there was sothing in his tone. Sothing final.
Naomi's breath caught in her throat.
Caleb looked at her again, as if trying to read sothing from her expression. But she wasn't about to give him that satisfaction.
"…Right," Caleb muttered, stepping back. "Guess I'll see you around."
He turned and walked away, and just like that, the air settled again.
Naomi exhaled slowly, not realizing she'd been holding her breath.
"Well," Adams said casually, picking up his drink. "That was interesting."
Naomi stared at him, her mind still spinning. "Okay. Who are you?"
Adams just smiled. "Like I said—just soone new in town."
Sohow, she wasn't sure she believed that.
