Shi Family.

On the double bed in the master bedroom, the dark gray bedding stirred with a small muffled bump, occasionally shifting and making light, shallow sounds.

Suddenly, a small, disheveled head of long hair peeked out from under the bedding.

The girl stared at the ceiling above her, puffing a breath to sweep the strands of hair obscuring her eyes aside, letting them obediently fall to her face and slide down to her neck.

She turned sideways, picked up the watch on the bedside table, and aligned it with her pupils.

With a soft "beep," the watch face glowed with a blue light, and that familiar Yellow Star appeared alongside a bubble of text: Code 099 at your service.

"099, I can’t sleep," Yu Zhi muttered as she caressed the strap, her light hazel eyes misty with a thin layer of moisture.

Was it... a hint of grievance?

Yellow Star playfully bounced up and down, and the blue light flared briefly: Would you like to use dication for sleep aid?

"No," Yu Zhi shook her head.

She lowered her gaze, focusing on the chanical string of text on the interface, sighing softly and almost imperceptibly.

The original 099 wasn’t this rigid. It not only chatted but could cheer people up; yet ever since arriving here, it had beco like this, and there was no way of restoring its forr self.

The only consolation was the ergency mode she had set up earlier, which ensured all functions remained intact.

Without it, this watch would barely pass as a watch.

Yu Zhi lightly tapped twice on the watch face, and as the interface returned to normal, her gaze fell on the ti displayed above.

Her eyes lingered on [01:25], her long lashes trembling slightly, like fluttering butterflies that sent ripples through the air each ti they moved.

"Plop, plop—"

A rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed.

Yu Zhi’s delicate ears twitched, and as she lifted her head, her deep abyss-like eyes erged.

She quickly threw back the corner of the blanket, retrieved a sharp dagger from the backpack resting on the sofa, and stealthily approached the door.

At the very instant the door handle was pushed open from outside, the agile girl swung her fist relentlessly toward the shadowy figure in the darkness without hesitation.

The "intruder," suddenly facing her onslaught, reacted swiftly by sidestepping out of the path of her forceful attack and simultaneously kicked the door open.

Warm light spilled into the room. Two piercing gazes t in mid-air for a fleeting mont, as if ti had stopped abruptly, freezing the atmosphere into a tense stillness.

"Zhizhi, are you planning to murder your husband?" Shi Wei’s gaze dropped to the knife tip rely centiters away from his abdon, his refined brows arching slightly.

The man’s tone carried an air of teasing, prompting Yu Zhi to hastily retract the dagger, accidentally knocking her elbow against the door fra in the process, emitting a clear, crisp sound.

"Ow." Yu Zhi winced, lightly furrowing her brows as she instinctively covered the spot on her elbow where the pain was starting to creep in.

She opened her lips to speak, but before she could say a word, a large hand encircled her waist, and in the next mont, she was lifted off the ground.

Shi Wei carried her to the sofa, removed the dagger still gripped in her hand, rolled up her sleeve, and inspected the area where the bump had occurred.

"Does it hurt?" He gently rubbed the pale skin of her elbow, now vividly bruised, his usually lighthearted deanor dimming significantly.

Yu Zhi shook her head. Sensing the change in his expression, she quickly grasped the edge of his clothes and diverted the topic: "Why did you co back?"

"I missed you." His low, husky voice was tinged with an intoxicating warmth and tenderness.

His wrinkled shirt bore traces of dust, his face showing signs of fatigue, evidence of a strenuous journey without proper rest.

Yet even so, his deep-set eyes resembled shattered gemstones, glowing with an unyielding sparkle.

As he cast his gaze downward, the air brimd with gentle affection, spilling across the room.

Yu Zhi’s heart pounded uncontrollably. She stared blankly at Shi Wei for several seconds, her grip on his shirt tightening and loosening repeatedly.

After a few cycles, she could no longer hold herself back. She leaned forward, cupped his neck, let her nose press against his, and slightly tilted her chin upward, planting a kiss on his faintly pink lips.

Before she had ti to withdraw, a solid hand wove through her hair, cradling the back of her head to deepen the sweet kiss.

The heated breath enveloped her, spreading warmth that made Yu Zhi’s face flush red, as though surrounded by ocean waves, willingly drowning in their embrace.

After a long while, Shi Wei ended the passionate conquest with a soft touch akin to dragonfly wings, finally granting her the chance to catch her breath.
