"I hit Yu Xinman." Yu Zhi pulled out the tattered laptop from her backpack.

When she explained how she had used the laptop to crush the other party’s legs, Shi Wei raised an eyebrow: "Were there any other people present at the ti?"

Yu Zhi thought for a mont: "I don’t think so."

She looked regretfully at the laptop; she admitted that she had acted impulsively. In hindsight, she should have chosen a different object to let Yu Xinman toy with.

"What about the surveillance footage?"

"It’s been dealt with." Yu Zhi curled her lips into a smile and gave his shoulder a couple of light pats. "Don’t worry, there’ll be no issues."

"Hmm." Shi Wei didn’t press further; instead, he tightened his hold slightly around the person in his arms.

Lowering his gaze, when he caught sight of the radiant curve at the corner of her lips, the gloom in his heart dissipated completely.

**

The hospital.

Yu Xinman stared blankly at the ceiling, her complexion pale as paper, as if she’d suffered a great shock. The liveliness she once had had been replaced by an overwhelming emptiness.

The door creaked open, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps approaching.

"Xinman, you’re awake?" Yu Baisheng sat beside the hospital bed, leaned forward, and gazed at her with eyes full of concern.

He smoothed out the corner of the quilt for her, displaying an air of a loving father—completely contrasting his earlier tone with Yu Zhi.

Yu Xinman fluttered her eyelids, her wandering thoughts seemingly pulled back by his voice. In a raspy tone, she asked, "Dad, where’s my sister?"

"Don’t ntion her!" Yu Baisheng’s expression darkened abruptly, tainted with a strange blend of lingering softness, making him appear slightly frightening.

Upon hearing this, Yu Xinman clenched her hands tightly beneath the blanket.

Earlier, she had overheard Yu Baisheng on the phone. She thought Yu Zhi would soon rush over, stand before her, apologize, and beg for forgiveness.

But to her surprise, Yu Zhi had so easily severed ties with the Yu Family, not even bothering with superficial niceties anymore.

Suppressing the hatred brewing in her heart, Yu Xinman bit her lower lip and said, "Dad, don’t bla my sister either. It’s... It’s my fault that I made her upset."

Her tolerance and understanding only made Yu Baisheng feel worse. He sighed deeply: "Silly girl, do you think your dad doesn’t know the real reason? Stop making excuses for her."

"Dad... I’m sorry." Yu Xinman’s eyes filled with tears, on the verge of spilling over.

She looked at him expectantly, choking with emotion. "Will my sister still co to see ?"

Even at this point, she still wondered if Yu Zhi would visit her.

Yu Baisheng’s gaze grew increasingly complex. Gently, he stroked her head. "Xinman, the doctor said you need proper rest. Stop dwelling on this."

"Hmm." Yu Xinman’s deanor dimd significantly. She forced a weak smile and murmured, "Dad, I want to sleep so more."

"Okay, then get so rest."

Once the door closed, Yu Xinman wiped away the tears from her eyes. A glint of viciousness and madness flickered in her gaze.

She retrieved the phone hidden beneath her pillow and opened the contact list, her finger hovering over the line marked ’Brother Hu.’

Clutching the phone tightly, she hesitated for a long while before dialing the number.

"Hello?" As the call connected, her voice beca sickly sweet.

"Man’er, calling so early—is it because you missed your Brother Hu?"

The man’s greasy tone and suggestive words made Yu Xinman feel physically ill. Images of that night at the Nightclub flashed rcilessly in her mind.

That night, bound hand and foot, she had been abandoned in a cold, desolate corner.

That night, she had been forced to drink copious amounts of alcohol by five or six burly n covered in tattoos.

That night, as they groped and grabbed her, countless photos were taken.

She had cried and scread, begging them to let her go—but those n only escalated their cruelty, like demons extending their claws to devour her whole.

Yu Xinman had once thought that if she could endure that one night, her life could return to normal, and she’d still be the carefree eldest daughter of the Yu Family.

But she had been naive. Demons remained demons; temporary surrender would never deter their inherent wickedness.

Yu Xinman abruptly shut her eyes tight, her body trembling uncontrollably. Taking a deep breath, she tried to purge those vile images from her mind.

When she reopened her eyes, her gaze was dark and inscrutable, and even the smile at her lips had turned sinister. "Brother Hu, I hurt my leg and am stuck in the hospital, so I can’t keep you company right now."

Yu Xinman spoke in a coy voice as though she were playfully teasing.

Before he could respond, she continued, "But I do have a sister who’s quite beautiful—soone who matches your taste perfectly."

Brother Hu swallowed the words he was about to say, letting out a laugh. "Prettier than you?"

"Of course." Yu Xinman lowered her head slightly, jealousy flickering in her eyes. "She’s far prettier than . I guarantee you’ll have plenty of fun with her."

"Alright, when will you bring her to ?"

"..."

The phone call lasted for nearly ten minutes. When Yu Xinman finally set the phone down, a strange sense of satisfaction seeped into her heart.

She leaned back against the headboard, her eyes landing on the vibrant green tree outside the window. For the first ti, the deadness in her gaze seed to lift, faintly replaced by flickers of light.

After dinner, Zhou Lu arrived at the hospital room holding a fruit basket and a bouquet of fresh flowers.

"Xinman, how badly are your legs hurt?" She placed the flowers on the bedside table, tidied them a bit, then sat down beside her.

Yu Xinman’s eyes briefly scanned her bandaged knees, and she gave a bitter laugh. "It’s alright, just a fracture."

"How did it happen? Did you slip sowhere?" Zhou Lu frowned and looked at her with deep concern. "Will it affect your dancing?"

"No, but I probably won’t be able to perform on stage this year." Her soft voice carried traces of disappointnt—subtle, yet Zhou Lu caught them instantly.

"Don’t worry, Xinman." She grasped the hand mottled with bruises from countless needle marks, offering comfort. "Everything will get better."

"Lu Lu, I’m sorry."

Her sudden apology caught Zhou Lu off guard. Just as she was about to ask why, Yu Xinman continued, "It’s my fault you were expelled from school."

"Why are you apologizing for that? I was the one who ca up with the plan—it has nothing to do with you."

She had already considered the consequences when Sun Xuei approached her.

Thus, she wasn’t surprised by the punishnt, nor had she ever blad Yu Xinman.

"It’s just a transfer to another school—it’s not a big deal." Zhou Lu’s carefree attitude made it seem as if the matter was utterly inconsequential.
