The Necromancer is amassing troops like crazy in the apocalypse Chapter 527: 436, What Profession Does He Have?
Chapter 527: Chapter 436, What Profession Does He Have?
“He’s dead and you had no idea?” Xi Ligui frowned at him.
“No, I didn’t know,” the man was pushed back by the team mbers and quickly added, “I even delivered breakfast to his room this morning.”
Xi Ligui sized him up and down, noting his legs were quaking, which didn’t seem feigned.
She instructed the team mbers, “Keep an eye on everyone and bring them all back to the association for questioning.”
The team mbers dispersed, gathering all the servants and guards together.
Inside the room.
Wu Heng examined the corpse and summoned Ghost to search the surrounding area.
But there weren’t many obvious clues.
“How is it?” Xi Ligui walked over and asked.
“He hasn’t been dead for very long, seems to have been around the sa ti as us,” Wu Heng replied.
Xi Ligui frowned and gave the body another look, “The killer took his head, probably to prevent you from performing Wenshi.”
“Most likely.”
“That ans soone knew you traced it here and ca over on purpose, killed this person, and severed the trail here completely,” Xi Ligui concluded with a frown.
The situation was quite apparent.
It was definitely related to the kidnapping of Millicent and the guard leader whom she had killed.
Wu Heng also chid in, “The opponent must be a high-ranking professional.”
“That was too quick though. We ca straight here, and they acted before we even arrived,” Shiraz pulled back the curtains and looked out of the opened window.
“It’s possible that while we were capturing ‘Greco,’ they had already started dealing with what’s next.”
Xi Ligui frowned, “Right, since they didn’t have the chance to kill ‘Greco’ to stop you from questioning, they ca here and killed this person instead.”
At this point, Xi Ligui’s eyes widened slightly, “There are others involved.”
“That’s the only explanation. Let’s search the room and then head back to the association to speak with the Steward.”
“Alright!”
The team mbers scattered.
So searched the room for clues while the rest continued to watch over the servants outside.
After nearly finishing the search, they all returned to the association together.
…
In the Association, Steward’s Office.
Xi Ligui recounted the events that had transpired to Imilo.
“The body has been sent to the morgue, and the servants from that residence are being interrogated.”
Regarding the decapitated target.
Although surprised, Imilo wasn’t shocked to an extre extent.
After contemplating, he said, “Let the Investigator record the incident normally and also inform all field agents of the association to be cautious about their safety and report any situation in ti.”
“Understood!” The two nodded.
“I’ll handle the negotiations with the city hall. You two continue investigating this matter, especially Wu Heng, don’t set out to sea for now,” Imilo spoke again.
“Oh, okay.”
Imilo dismissed them with a wave of his hand, and Xi Ligui promptly left the room.
Wu Heng didn’t leave.
Imilo asked, “Sothing else on your mind?”
“Steward, is the tavern unable to operate now? With this getting out, others will know for sure that the tavern is associated with the association,” Wu Heng voiced his concerns directly.
Conch Tavern had provided so useful information.
Moreover, it was already established and doing fairly well; it seed a pity to shut it down just like that.
Imilo still watched him, “You also investigated the Old Barrel case, haven’t you ever thought that people might suspect Old Barrel is a spy for the association?”
Hm?
That was another angle to consider the problem from.
Old Barrel was a well-known force on Lighthouse Street, and even though the association helped with so matters, no one would suspect it was the association’s informant.
“Old Barrel operates differently and is well-established. It’s normal that no one believes that,” he continued.
Imilo remained even-tempered, “Your tavern is the sa. Later, find a credible reason to distance yourself from it. Even if there are suspicions, there won’t be much impact.”
Wu Heng’s rescue of Millicent wasn’t known to outsiders.
Unless the person behind the scenes spoke out or the blank envelope directly inford everyone, outsiders would be oblivious to the actual events.
At most, they knew that there was a conflict between the association and the guard leader at the port.
This had little to do with the tavern.
“Alright, I understand, thank you, Steward.”
Wu Heng nodded and also exited the room.
…
Back in his own office.
He settled into his chair for a mont.
The door opened, and Andre Willow ca in with ‘Millicent’ wearing a cloak.
“Master, I’ve brought the person back.”
Millicent removed her hood and bowed slightly, “My lord.”
Wu Heng instructed, “Wei’er, go and prepare so food for her.”
“Alright, Master.”
Andre Willow left.
Wu Heng turned to Millicent, “Take a seat. Do you feel any discomfort?”
Millicent cautiously sat down, unconsciously touching her behind, “No discomfort, thank you, my lord.”
“The person who kidnapped you is dead, but there might be others behind this. I’ll arrange for two Skeletons to protect you,” Wu Heng said.
Millicent nodded, “Okay.”
“Hmm, for the next couple of days, you’ll stay at the association. We’ll see if anything else cos up, and if not, I’ll create a reason for you to reopen the tavern,” he assured her.
Millicent’s expression brightened; she didn’t want to give up the hard work she’d put into the tavern.
“Yes, my lord.”
“There’s nothing else, you’ve had a rough ti. Eat and then rest in your room, regain your energy,” Wu Heng suggested, then added, “By the way, Philippa has joined the association, she asked to let you know.”
“Really? That’s wonderful,” Millicent responded excitedly.
She then inquired further about her daughter’s specifics of joining the association with Wu Heng.
Wu Heng explained briefly to her.
After chatting for a while, Andre Willow brought back so food.
Millicent ate carefully, then went to the prepared dormitory to rest.
Wu Heng also left the guild and walked towards his residence.
…
Returning to his residence.
He greeted Mini and entered the radio room on the third floor.
Picking up the microphone, he asked, “Philippa, are you there?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Philippa’s voice ca through, “Eating, miss ?”
Wu Heng leaned on the edge of the desk, “Your identity as a Secret Speaker has been confird, and you have an emblem. You can prove your identity with the emblem when you travel.”
“Really? My god, I’m part of the guild now,” Philippa exclaid in surprise.
“Whenever you have ti, I will give you the emblem. Having it in hand is a form of protection,” Wu Heng said.
There was a slight pause on the other end before she replied, “Give it so ti, these days I’m establishing a relationship with the Mad Lion Pirate Group.”
She couldn’t always be running this way.
If she ca too frequently, the crew might notice sothing was off.
“No rush, give it to you when you have ti.”
“Good, I’m not in a hurry, might not even need it. Just the thought of the guild scares ,” Philippa said casually.
Wu Heng thought for a mont, then continued, “Your mother was kidnapped yesterday, but she’s been rescued now and there’s no danger.”
“How could that happen?” Philippa’s tone suddenly turned serious.
“Rember that person who spoke at the port last ti you returned?”
“That pretty boy?”
“Right, he seems to have strong discernnt. He planned the kidnapping after seeing us entering the tavern and talking with your mother,” Wu Heng explained.
“Fuck, what’s his na? I’ll kill his whole family tomorrow,” Philippa cursed angrily.
At sea, pirates epitomize ferocity and brutality.
Threaten their family, and they respond in an incredibly vengeful manner.
“He’s already been killed by . This matter involves quite a lot, so stay alert at sea in case it involves you too,” Wu Heng said.
Hearing that the man was dead, Philippa didn’t have much else to say.
She promised, “Alright, I’ll be careful. By the way, is her tavern not going to open?”
“It’s not necessarily shut down for good. In the next couple of days, I will monitor the outside news. If there are no problems, I’ll release so false information to dissociate your mother from the guild. Then, the tavern can be reopened.”
“Okay, she really likes that tavern, so if possible, I hope she can continue running it.”
“Hmm, don’t worry. I will have soone protect her. If the Lighthouse Street Tavern can’t be reopened, I’ll have her set up another one outside the guild,” Wu Heng promised again.
“Heh, thanks,” Philippa chuckled with gratitude.
“Any news from the pirates?” Wu Heng asked again.
“Nothing new in the last couple of days. I’ll notify you in advance if sothing cos up,” she answered.
“Good, stay safe.”
“Bye, dad.”
The call ended.
Wu Heng went back upstairs and entered his study.
…
Pouring himself a cup of tea, he sat down behind the desk.
Leaning back, he reflected on the recent events.
A Guard Team leader had actually sought to draw him out for execution.
Moreover, the second behind-the-scenes person they discovered had been beheaded, cutting off further investigation.
Now, the island was no longer as safe as before.
But on second thought.
The people on Gold and Silver Island were originally pirates.
Lured by a high bounty to take risks wasn’t so strange after all.
“It’s not entirely a bad thing. It serves as a reminder that dangers exist even on the island.”
“I’ll need to accelerate the improvent of my level and ensure the security of those close to .”
Knock, knock, knock~!
While he was talking to himself, there was a knock at the door. Mini’s voice ca from outside, “Master, it’s dinner ti.”
Wu Heng opened the door, put his arm around the little maid’s shoulder, and went downstairs.
Mini excitedly talked about the ingredients sent by Shanaela and her own culinary creations.
Downstairs, Andre Willow had also returned from the guild.
They sat down together at the dining table and began to eat.
After dinner.
The three of them completed their training.
Then they each returned to their rooms to rest.
…
The next day, Wu Heng visited the guild in the morning.
In the Steward’s Office.
Shiraz said, “The headless corpse from yesterday has been confird to be the one we were searching for. In the afternoon, the Guard Team ca and took both corpses away, saying they would investigate the matter.”
“Did they say anything else?”
“No, Steward Imilo was there at that ti, and they didn’t have any objections,” Shiraz said with a smile.
Wu Heng nodded, “Being strong really counts for sothing.”
“Of course. Imilo has a high status among the Elf Race, otherwise, he wouldn’t be assigned here,” Shiraz said with a hint of pride.
“Is that so, what status?”
Shiraz winked at him, but didn’t continue, simply lifting her cup to sip so tea.
Wu Heng didn’t press further. Who was more powerful in the Elf Race, or what their statuses were, didn’t really concern him.
After all, he was still from another world.
Who didn’t have a special identity of their own?
He also took a sip from his cup and then, changing the subject, asked, “What profession does the Island Master of Gold and Silver Island have?”
Shiraz looked up, uncertain, and said, “Should be a warrior, no specific intelligence on that.”
