Chapter 1257: Chapter 934, Searching for the Murderer

The overhead light cast eerie shadows on the corpse, the twisted body lying lifeless on the floor.

Every move the opponent made was seamless and precise.

Even when snapping the neck, there wasn’t a trace of hesitation.

This left Wu Heng’s brow tightly furrowed.

Wu Heng walked over and lowered his head to examine the corpse.

The skin was rapidly growing pale, with corpse spots beginning to form.

Placing his hand on the skin of the corpse, he could feel residual necromantic energy.

Based on his understanding of corpses, this body had long since died.

A skill flashed through Wu Heng’s mind—[Stealing Body], a ghostly technique.

Glenda also possessed this skill, which allowed parasitic control of a deceased body. Upon successful possession, one could command the body entirely.

This was a deliberate setup, using the corpse at the City Lord’s Mansion banquet to fra him.

Thoughts raced through his mind.

The sound of footsteps from the doorway grew closer. The door swung open to reveal the Three Ghost Puppets, who had been spectating the events upstairs just monts ago.

They entered the room, imdiately spotting the corpse of the female priest lying on the floor.

Her hair was disheveled, her collar violently torn open, and the pendant representing The Holy Court lay near the doorway.

Her head and limbs were twisted grotesquely, as if into a spiral.

She was undoubtedly, unquestionably dead.

The ghosts stared at Wu Heng in shock and suspicion. Glenda was the first to react. “What happened?”

Snapped necks—this was distinctly a ghost’s thod of killing.

And since the three of them had all been outside just now, there was no way a fourth ghost could have committed the act.

Sothing was clearly amiss here.

Wu Heng said, “She stepped inside and killed herself imdiately. I suspect a ghost used [Stealing Body].”

“A ghost? You didn’t see it?”

Wu Heng shook his head. “Not yet. Glenda, search the skies above the City Lord’s Mansion for any ghosts. Bella, monitor the inside of the mansion. Xiao Xiao, stay with .”

“Understood!” the Three Ghost Puppets responded in unison.

They detached from their puppets, assuming ghostly forms, and split up according to Wu Heng’s orders.

Wu Heng stored the puppets in his Space Ring.

anwhile, more footsteps echoed from the hallway. The guests attending the banquet downstairs had heard the commotion and were making their way up.

The first to burst into the room was the Fifth Princess, resplendent in a sapphire-blue gown. Her eyes widened instantly at the sight of the corpse, filled with shock, suspicion, and confusion.

Following behind the Fifth Princess were Shanaela, Elder Tapani, the veteran mage Gianvito, the priest Nasir, and nurous other guests.

Those in the front stared in horror at the scene before them, while those in the back craned their necks and whispered among themselves, trying to find out what had happened.

The priest Nasir pushed his way to the front and knelt to cradle the corpse in his arms.

After a thorough inspection, his heart grew cold.

She was beyond saving. Despite her not-insignificant level as a female priest, the injuries alone were fatal.

Raising his head again, his eyes burned with rage. “Wu Heng, what did she do to wrong you? To make you kill her like this?”

At the banquet, the female priest had explicitly declared herself a fan of Wu Heng’s works.

And now, here she was, lying disheveled and dead in this room.

“She wasn’t a priest,” Wu Heng said sternly. “After following here, she tore her own clothes and then died on the spot.”

“Suicide?” Nasir growled angrily. “Wu Heng, do you take us all for fools? Who could twist their own neck and limbs like this in a suicide?”

All eyes turned to Wu Heng.

It was inconceivable for soone to twist their own neck and limbs.

Moreover, rather than suicide, it bore all the hallmarks of a ghost’s typical thod of killing.

And the torn clothing, coupled with the earlier cries for help—it wasn’t hard to piece together what had transpired.

“Nasir, don’t be so hasty,” Elder Tapani stepped out from the crowd, his tone asured.

Then he turned to Wu Heng and asked, “Wu Heng, can she be brought back to life?”

During the battles in Netalee City, so fallen comrades had been revived by Wu Heng through his Revival Technique.

Judging by the current tifra, the corpse might still be salvaged.

All eyes focused on Wu Heng, awaiting his response.

Wu Heng shook his head. “I’ve already examined her. She’s been dead for so ti, and necromantic energy has tainted her body. The Revival Technique won’t work.”

Nasir, who had felt a brief glimr of hope, furrowed his brows once again.

The crowd erupted into chaotic murmurs.

A death in the study. A corpse that couldn’t be revived. Necromantic energy residue.

Even Wenshi was now impossible.

Sothing was undeniably wrong.

Even Wu Heng couldn’t help but feel suspicious of himself after saying what he did.

“Hmph!” Nasir snorted coldly. “Quite the move, ‘Leader.’ Now she’s dead and beyond saving. You can say whatever you want.”

Wu Heng maintained a resolute deanor and said, “Aren’t you a priest? Can’t you tell whether I’m lying?”

Priests had the ability to discern lies.

“You’re a hero. Who could ever tell if you’re lying?” Nasir countered, his voice sharp with sarcasm.

At this, the guests in the back grew visibly more anxious.

They had attended the banquet hoping to et a hero. Who could have expected to witness such a dark incident?

A hero, accused of killing a priest from The Holy Court—this was far beyond what they were prepared to handle.

Would they all be silenced to cover this up?

A wave of retreat rippled through the crowd. No one dared peek any further, and so began stepping back to distance themselves.

They’d already heard too much. Perhaps it was safer not to hear the rest.

Hearing the scorn in Nasir’s voice, Wu Heng said, “I had no reason to kill her; you should know that as well. I suspect she was possessed by a ghost, aiming to sabotage my relationship with The Holy Court.”

“So, you’re planning to shove the bla onto another necromancer?” Nasir’s eyes burned with disbelief and fury.
