The brown-haired woman’s lips curled into a small smile.
"It feels... strange, but in a good way. It’s like I can sense its presence, even though I can’t see it."
Gu Jin nodded, relieved that the spell worked as intended.
"Skelly will protect you. If anything happens, it will act on its own, especially if you’re in danger. Just give it commands as you see fit."
The brown-haired woman looked at Gu Jin thoughtfully, then said,
"I owe you a great favor for this. If anyone tries anything, I’ll be ready. You have my word, I won’t let your gift go to waste."
Gu Jin shook her head,
"No need. This is my repaynt to you for your help earlier. If you weren’t there I would have died."
The brown-haired woman’s smile faded a little and she asked in a mocking tone,
"Do you want to say that you don’t want to see you again? Or is it that you don’t want to associate yourself with ?"
Gu Jin was stunned by the sudden change in deanor of the brown-haired woman,
"What do you an?"
"What? Don’t act as if you don’t know about my reputation in the capital city. The witch who bullies her innocent sister, the bully, the unreasonable person, the evil and scheming sister, don’t you know that all of these are my nas?" The brown-haired woman mocked.
Though the brown-haired woman tried her best to hide the bitterness and sadness in her eyes, Gu Jin could easily see through her disguise.
The brown-haired woman was saying all those harsh words to protect herself from any possible heartbreak in the near future.
Maybe the reason why she was telling about her infamous deeds was that she felt that Gu Jin didn’t know her, and hence Gu Jin was so friendly to her(the brown-haired woman).
Maybe the brown-haired woman didn’t want to betray her(GuJin). Maybe she didn’t want to lose a friend after knowing her for a long ti only because their friendship built when Gu Jin wasn’t aware of her( the brown-haired woman’s) bad reputation.
Gu Jin guessed everything right.
The brown-haired woman was indeed having those thoughts.
In fact, she was even more worried that Gu Jin would beco her friend. If Gu Jin agrees to beco her friend, then due to her bad reputation, Gu Jin would be dragged into the mud too.
She waited for Gu Jin to beco upset or question her, but Gu Jin smiled,
"Is that so? Then we are a perfect match. I don’t care what people say about . More than that I don’t care about your bad reputation.
For , you are a good person. And we can’t be a good person in everyone’s books right?"
The brown-haired woman’s heart thumped loudly.
For the first ti, so said so simple yet warm words for her.
She lowered her head and said with sadness in her voice,
"You will be bullied because of ."
Gu Jin chuckled,
"Then let them bully . Because I will take my revenge. I am not a saint. I am a devil. If a chance is given, I won’t hesitate to chop off the heads of those who said those words to you.
How dare they say such words to an innocent and kind-hearted person like you?"
A woman who could help another woman just because the other woman called her pretty, how could such a woman be a scheming and evil woman?
Just thinking about the brown-haired woman getting condemned because of a false accusation, made Gu Jin’s heart burn with fire.
The brown-haired woman felt a lump in her throat. Her eyes watered, and it beca a little difficult to breathe. The rim of her eyes turned red.
The pressure weighing her heart seems to have faded away. A warm current spread in her body and the brown-haired woman suddenly felt the world wasn’t a cruel place as it may seem.
"What if...what if I am truly the person who is at fault?" The brown-haired woman asked.
Gu Jin grinned,
"Is that even a problem? If the world could be biased, why can’t I? They hate you because of what they think is true, so I will protect you even if what they think is true."
The brown-haired woman couldn’t help but smile at Gu Jin’s unreasonable words,
"You...truly...what is your na?"
She thought Gu Jin was trying to comfort her when she said those words, only later did she realize...Gu Jin was serious.
"I don’t tell strangers my na..." Gu Jin raised an eyebrow.
The brown-haired woman chuckled,
"I am Gu Jichun."
Gu Jichun? She is also from the capital...that ans.
"Are you perhaps...the sister of...Gu Aihan?" Gu Jin asked cautiously.
Gu Jichun’s aura turned cold and she instantly moved away from Gu Jin. A mocking smile appeared on her face which disguised sadness in her eyes, but before she could say anything, Gu Jin continued,
"Your little sister doesn’t like , she and I are having a feud, and soday in the near future, I might kill her if she keeps on causing trouble. So...if you love your little sister, please stay away from ."
Gu Jin appeared calm and collected on the surface, but in her heart, she was filled with jealousy.
Why?
Why does Gu Aihan have all the loving people around her?
Long Yifan...Gu Jichun...both of them...are such a lovely person. And she likes them both.
But they...they are connected to Gu Aihan so closely. They would surely hate her even more if she hard Gu Aihan, right?
Emptiness.
That was all Gu Jin could feel.
Yet Gu Jin continue to mock Gu Aihan,
"She’s like a great tea b*tch, always acting sweet and innocent while plotting behind the scenes.
I’ve never seen anyone faker in my life. It’s as if she believes that her charm can mask her true intentions."
Gu Jichun’s eyes widened in surprise, but Gu Jin pressed on.
"Honestly, it’s pathetic. Everyone thinks she’s so perfect, but I see right through her façade.
She thinks she can manipulate everyone with her tears and sweet words, but it’s just a mask to hide her true self. It’s so transparent, I almost pity the fools who fall for her gas."
Once she finished her words Gu Jin waited.
She was waiting for Gu Jichun to lash out, to defend her sister, but instead, the mocking smile that once danced on Gu Jichun’s lips faded into sothing softer, sothing genuine.
Before Gu Jin could brace herself, Gu Jichun stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her in a tight embrace.
Gu Jin stiffened in surprise.
"You," Gu Jichun whispered, her voice steady but tinged with emotion, "you are the first person I’ve t who sees through all of that. I’ve never encountered anyone more clear-minded than you."
Gu Jin stood frozen for a mont.
"What? You... you’re not angry?"
"No," Gu Jichun replied, pulling back slightly to look into Gu Jin’s eyes. "I finally see a companion."
With just a few words Gu Jin hurriedly pieced the truth,
"Wait! You an to say...your reputation of being an unreasonable person, a scheming and evil sister, ca because of Gu Aihan?"
Gu Jichun lowered her eyes, as she muttered,
"Yes. Every ti. You may find it funny and even unbelievable, but she has completely ruined my reputation, to the point that even I feel unashad when I show my face to others."
Gu Jichun’s eyes darkened as she took a deep breath, her voice becoming softer, almost as if she was talking to herself.
"It wasn’t always like this," she began, her gaze distant.
"Gu Aihan was my little sister, and I adored her. I used to protect her from everything, even if it ant I had to sacrifice my own comfort.
But the turning point ca when I missed my examination for the Capital’s prestigious magic school."
Gu Jin listened intently as Jichun’s voice trembled slightly, recounting her past.
"It was the day I had been preparing for months. I was ready. But then, Gu Aihan ca to that morning, asking for help with sothing small.
I thought it wouldn’t take long, just a harmless prank she said. She wanted to set up sothing to surprise our parents. I agreed, thinking it was just an innocent joke. Little did I know, she had other plans."
Gu Jichun’s face tightened as the mory resurfaced.
"She delayed on purpose, made run around in circles for hours.
By the ti I realized what she had done, the exam had already started. I rushed to the academy, trying to explain, but I was turned away for being late.
When I confronted Aihan, she started crying, telling everyone that she didn’t an to cause any harm."
Gu Jin could feel the bitterness in Jichun’s words as she continued.
"Of course, no one believed . How could sweet, innocent Aihan do sothing so malicious?"
