"I have to find her," Pei Ke muttered to himself, clenching his fists.

He couldn’t let Jin Mu disappear without a fight. She had saved his life, and now it was his turn to save hers.

Not to ntion...other than his mother the only woman he loves in this world is her. He can’t afford to lose her.

She was the light of his dark life!

When he was struggling to keep up, she helped him and even left her rich family for him.

He can’t let her down!

Though he thought so, he couldn’t stop himself from shedding tears.

He regretted his words. He truly did.

But where could he start? The portal had closed, leaving no trace.

He needed information, guidance, and anything that could help him track down the portal or find a way to reopen it.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.

Rushing blindly wouldn’t help. He needed to think, to co up with a plan.

Suddenly, Pei Ke rembered Gu Jin and her friends.

Mu’er said they were powerful...does that an, they can help?

Anyway, he doesn’t have any contact with powerful people. And there was no harm in trying!

At worst he will hand over all of the psychomindris he had collected and the artifact.

He can’t let his Mu’er die!

Without wasting any more ti, Pei Ke turned and sprinted in the direction Gu Jin and her group had gone.

His earlier arrogance was gone, replaced by desperation and a singular focus: to save Jin Mu.

anwhile, Gu Jin, Liang Bao, and Lu Siyao who were resting just half a kiloter away from the field of psychomindris, when heard hurried footsteps approaching from behind.

Gu Jin turned, her eyes narrowing as she saw Pei Ke rushing toward them.

She imdiately sensed sothing was wrong—his earlier bravado had completely disappeared, and there was a wild look in his eyes.

"Hey! Has that guy gone crazy? Why is he rushing in our direction as if he will fight with us?" Lu Siyao asked with a worried expression.

She truly didn’t want any trouble.

Gu Jin shook her head,

"No...he is here for sothing else..."

"Please! Help !" Pei Ke shouted as soon as he reached her, desperation clear in his voice. "Jin Mu... she’s gone! A black portal took her!"

"Jin Mu? Black Portal? What are you talking about? And why are telling us all of this?" Liang Bao asked. Her tone wasn’t good.

This guy dared to insult their best friend, how could they give him a good face?

Pei Ke, panting and on the verge of tears, looked at Liang Bao with pleading eyes.

"I know I was wrong before, and I’m sorry for what I said. But please, you have to believe —a black portal took Jin Mu.

Jin Mu is my future wife, the girl you saw earlier. The black portal appeared out of nowhere behind, it was about to suck when Jin Mu pushed aside, and just when we thought we were saved the black portal swallowed her!

I don’t know what to do. Please, you have to help find her. I’ll do anything—give you everything I have—just please, help !"

Liang Bao’s eyes softened slightly, but she remained cautious.

"A black portal? That’s not sothing to be taken lightly. You said it just appeared? Out of nowhere?"

She had a vague idea as to what the black portal was.

"Yes," Pei Ke replied, his voice trembling.

"One mont we were gathering psychomindris, and the next, this portal just opened up behind her. I tried to save her, but... I failed. Please, I can’t lose her. She’s everything to ."

Lu Siyao rolled her eyes,

"Didn’t you say, you will break up with her? How co she suddenly becos your everything?"

She even wondered whether this guy was trying to sche against them.

Gu Jin tapped on Lu Siyao’s hand and asked Pei Ke,

"You said the portal was black? Was there anything unusual about it—any symbols, any sounds, anything at all that stood out?"

Was it the work of the four mages?

But why did they attack Pei Ke? Until and unless he holds sothing very valuable...

Gu Jin didn’t know that her blind guess was partially correct.

Pei Ke shook his head, his expression haunted.

"No, it was just darkness, like a void. But it felt... ancient, like sothing powerful was behind it."

Gu Jin exchanged a look with Liang Bao and Lu Siyao.

Gu Jin exchanged a look with Liang Bao and Lu Siyao.

"Ancient magic, perhaps," Liang Bao murmured, more to herself than to anyone else. "If that portal is connected to ancient forces, then Jin Mu might be in serious danger."

"Ancient magic?" Pei Ke was stunned hearing that term and his face further paled.

Other than the elders of major top families of the capital who have lived for more than the myriad(10,000 years), no one knows how to use ancient magic.

"Yes. It ans the top families of capital are involved in this." Liang Bao said with a serious expression.

"But why would they attack you?" Gu Jin asked.

Pei Ke lowered his head and gritted his teeth, wondering whether he should tell them the truth or not...

Lu Siyao, who had been silent until now, sighed.

"Gu Jin, do we really want to get involved in this? Portals, ancient magic—this sounds like more trouble than it’s worth."

Liang Bao agreed. Gu Jin too felt Lu Siyao’s words made sense.

"Mister, if truly feel sorry, but we can’t help." Liang Bao said.

Pei Ke’s face pale and he said hurriedly,

"I will give you all of my psychomindris! Please! Please help ."

"Even if you give us all the psychomindris it wouldn’t be enough. Ancient magic is beyond our capabilities," Liang Bao said, her tone firm despite the sympathy in her eyes.

"We are not equipped to deal with sothing like this. Involving ourselves could put us all in danger, especially if the top families of the capital are behind it."

"But..." Pei Ke’s voice cracked, tears welling up in his eyes. "Please... I’ll do anything. I can’t lose her."

Seeing them leaving, Pei Ke clenched his fist and said,

"I will give you the artifact."

"Huh? Hey mister, don’t you understand? We will not help!" Lu Siyao said.

"The artifact for which you have co in the mistwood forest is with ." Pei Ke ignored Lu Siyao’s words and took out a jar.

He opened the jar for a re second, before hurriedly closing it. But it was enough for all three to sense the aura of the artifact.

"What the! How did you get your hands on that? And aren’t you afraid that we will take it away from you? And if you have this why aren’t you seeking help from the military?" Lu Siyao was stunned.

Pei Kei explained,

"We were just lucky. And no I don’t think you will. Mu’er was so friendly to you all, it could only an, you all are a good person. If I go and seek help from military officers or police officers, they will kill instead. How could they not understand the aning of the black portal?"

Gu Jin took a deep breath, trying to process everything.

"So, you’re telling us that this artifact is the reason Jin Mu was taken? And that the top families of the capital are involved?"

Pei Ke nodded, desperation still etched on his face.

"Yes. We found it by chance. I didn’t realize how dangerous it was until the portal appeared. But I swear, if I had known, I would have done anything to protect Mu’er. Please, I don’t know what else to do. You’re my only hope."

Liang Bao, who had been silent, finally spoke.

"If what you’re saying is true, then you’re right. Going to the authorities would be a death sentence.

They would take the artifact, and you would be disposed of. But helping you ans putting ourselves in the crosshairs of the most powerful families in the capital. We would be risking our lives."

"I am ready to give you this artifact for free." Pei Ke offered.

"Even if we accept your offer, we don’t know how to rescue your future wife." Lu Siyao frowned. "How will we find the black portal? By calling its na? Oh dear black portal please open in front of ..."

Before she could finish his words, Gu Jin, Pei Kei, and Liang Bao’s faces changed and they shouted,

"Siyao!"

"Yao’er!"

Behind Lu Siyao a black portal appeared.

Gu Jin hurriedly pulled Lu Siyao to her side, since she was closest to the black portal.

However, for so reason, the black portal didn’t seem interested in Lu Siyao. Instead, it hovered ominously, as if waiting for sothing—or soone.

Whoosh.

Before Gu Jin could understand anything, a suction pulled Gu Jin inside.

Liang Bao, Lu Siyao, and Pei Ke’s eyes widened in horror.
