By the ti Gu Jin went downstairs, the doorbell rang three tis.

Gu Jin opened the door and was surprised to see Liang Bao.

"Huh? Bao’er? What are you doing here? And why are you in such a state?"

Liang Bao’s face was covered with dust, her breathing was fast and her cheeks were red.

"Jin’er not good! You are right! You are right! Siyao is in danger!"

Gu Jin was imdiately on alert.

"What do you an? Co inside first."

Liang Bao was trembling as she entered the house. Gu Jin walked inside the kitchen, to get a cup of water for her.

Liang Bao looked around warily and suddenly turned to look at the stairs.

Just then Gu Jin returned with a cup of water.

"Here."

Liang Bao took the glass but didn’t drink the water and instead asked anxiously,

"Jin’er where is Siyao? Is she safe?"

"She is in a safe place. Don’t worry." Gu Jin assured her when she saw how scared Liang Bao was.

Liang Bao patted her heart,

"Thank god."

"Now tell what happened."

"Jin’er after you left the academy, I was passing by the girl’s washroom, when I heard two girls chatting.

One of the girls was yo. yo is the new student, and Lu Siyao’s sponsor is thinking about sponsoring."

Gu Jin furrowed her brows and asked,

"Then what about Siyao? He can’t just discard! If he withdraws in the middle of the sponsoring, not only reputation will be affected, but he will also suffer heavy losses.

And wait a minute! Why does he suddenly want to sponsor that girl nad yo."

"That girl is ready to do things Siyao doesn’t want to." Liang Bao’s tone was filled with ambiguousness, yet Gu Jin understood.

Lu Siyao was a free-spirited girl and refused to bow her head in front of corrupted people.

Maybe his sponsor while sponsoring thought that he could ta Lu Siyao and get a taste of her, while also using her talent for his own purpose, but when he realized Lu Siyao was too wild, he gave on her.

"Even then! He can’t discard..." Gu Jin stopped in between.

"That is the problem, he can discard her by killing her! Tonight few assassins would co to assassinate her. I heard the entire plan from the girl nad yo.

And just as about to leave, they noticed my presence. To avoid future trouble, they wanted to kill and hence I ca to your place, thinking it is much safer here."

Liang Bao’s eyes watered. Gu Jin felt sothing was amiss with Liang Bao and suddenly asked,

"By the way, what was the thing that you wanted to tell ?"

"Huh?"

"Last ti when we were having a conversation you said that you wanted to say sothing important to , rember?" Gu Jin probed.

"Did I? Why can’t I rember?" Liang Bao placed a hand on her.

She truly couldn’t rember.

Gu Jin was 30% assured. Nothing was wrong with Linag Bao, but to further confirm she asked,

"Bao’er who was that emperor who saved the nation from a nationwide disaster?"

"Emperor Sui Guonan." Liang Bao corrected in a tone of preaching.

Gu Jin heaved a sigh of relief.

There is nothing wrong with Liang Bao!

"Jin’er why are you asking these strange questions..." Suddenly Liang Bao stopped and asked,

"Wait! Were you perhaps...suspecting ?"

Gu Jin nodded. Though embarrassed, she can’t be blad.

Liang Bao understood Gu Jin’s thought process and took the initiative to change the subject,

"Okay, then I will leave."

Gu Jin nodded and Liang Bao left the house.

Suddenly she heard a scream and Gu Jin ran out of the house, only to find Liang Bao who was being chased by two girls.

Were they the ones who originally chased Liang Bao?

Gu Jin scolded herself for being inattentive.

She hurriedly moved towards Liang Bao and attacked them.

"Plant Vines!"

Using the plant vines she easily held the two girls.

The two girls chasing Liang Bao stopped in their tracks, glaring at Gu Jin with malice. One of them had brunette hair while the other one had blue hair.

"Who are you?" Gu Jin asked with a cold expression.

The brunette girl looked indignant and said,

"Step aside! Let finish what I started."

Gu Jin’s eyes turned cold,

"Oh? What did you start?"

The blue-haired girl sneered, "Little girl it’s better if you step aside, that girl just now slapped my dog."

Gu Jin looked around them and asked,

"Where is the dog."

"It ran away." Blue hair girl said.

"Nonsense!" Liang Bao shouted. "You both are just trying to fra ! You want to kill to silence !"

Gu Jin imdiately understood and asked,

"Is anyone of you nad yo?"

The blue hair girl blurted out,

"That’s ! But how do you know my na?"

Gu Jin narrowed her eyes and asked,

"Be ready for death then."

Just now if Gu Jin’s didn’t arrive god knows how Liang Bao would have survived.

Liang Bao was one of the genuine friends Gu Jin has and she can’t lose her!

Just then the brunette girl tugged yo’s clothes and said,

"Let’s leave for now! I can sense a supre presence in the air."

yo hesitated and finally waved the white flag. Then she turned and glared at Liang Bao and Gu Jin,

"I will deal with you both later."

Whoosh.

yo and the brunette girl both suddenly vanished from their spot.

"Where did they go?" Gu Jin looked around but didn’t find them.

"Maybe they escaped since they sensed your advanced rank aura?" Liang Bao said with uncertainty.

"Are you alright?" Gu Jin asked, her voice laced with concern.

Liang Bao nodded, though her face was pale.

"I think so. Thank you, Jin’er. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t been here."

"Sigh! Bao’er stay with tonight, I will deal with those two girls later!" Gu Jin proposed.

Liang Bao hesitated,

"Won’t that make things difficult for you?"

"No. Drop the formalities." Gu Jin said.

She would feel uneasy if she let Liang Bao leave now.

Just now when she sensed the aura of the two girls, she knew the opponent wasn’t easily.

Surprisingly both of them were on the verge of a breakthrough to advance rank.

As they stepped back into the house, Gu Jin couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched.

She quickly locked the door and reinforced the protective barrier, making sure they were safe from any imdiate threats.

These protective barriers were reinforced by the Elders of the Alchemy Tower.

Once they were settled, Gu Jin turned to Liang Bao,

"Bao’er, there is a guest room here. You can live in it."

Liang Bao nodded, her relief palpable as she followed Gu Jin to the guest room.

The events of the evening had clearly taken a toll on her, but knowing she was safe with Gu Jin seed to ease her worries.

"Thank you, Jin’er," Liang Bao said, her voice trembling slightly.

"I don’t know what I would have done without you."

Gu Jin rolled her eyes,

"Thank you? Seriously?"

Liang Bao smiled with an embarrassed expression.

"Okay, now sleep."

Liang Bao nodded again, grateful for the kindness and support.

As she settled into the guest room, Gu Jin made her way back to the living room, her mind racing with thoughts and plans.

Just as she lay on the bed, a knock sounded.

Gu Jin opened the door and saw Liang Bao.

"Jin’er if you don’t mind, you could let see Siyao once? I want to be assured."

Without a word, Gu Jin sidestepped and Liang Bao entered the room.

Liang Bao looked at Lu Siyao who was sleeping and caressed her forehead.

She didn’t stay for long and left.

...................

In midnight.

A shadow slowly entered the room in which Gu Jin was staying with Lu Siyao.

The figure moved silently, their steps barely making a sound on the wooden floor. The figure inched closer to the bed where Gu Jin and Lu Siyao were resting.

With a swift motion, the figure opened its mouth and it slowly stuck its tongue out.

Slowly the tongue started to lengthen and transform, becoming a sharp, needle-like appendage.

The intruder’s eyes glowed with a sinister light as they directed the tongue toward Lu Siyao, who was still asleep and unaware of the danger.

But Gu Jin was not as unaware as the intruder had hoped.

The mont the figure’s tongue moved closer, Gu Jin cast a spell,

"Plant Vines!"

At the sa ti, an object was thrown from behind towards the figure.

Gu Jin moved to one side and saw Liang Bao who was still in her pajamas, looking at the figure warily.

The figure panicked and tried to retract its tongue, but it was too late. Gu Jin’s vines had already ensnared the intruder, tightening around him with an unyielding grip.

The figure struggled, emitting a low, guttural growl.
