Chapter 1027: Chapter 1026: He Missed Lu Mian, Ti and Ti Again

What?

Xiao Qimo’s ears buzzed slightly, almost ringing. As sharp as he was, he suddenly couldn’t understand what Yun Zhijuan ant by her words.

“Are you saying the person you’ve been matchmaking for is Lu Mian?”

“Or else who?”

Yun Zhijuan spoke indignantly, her ability to switch topics impressively swift.

As long as she avoided taking the hits herself, it was totally fine to drag her junior down.

“What’s wrong, can’t comprehend now? Weren’t you quite bold when you went off on her back then? Saying she couldn’t find anyone to marry and had to cling onto you, saying soone who’s so desperate to get married must have issues.”

Yun Zhijuan’s remark landed heavily on Xiao Qimo’s chest, adding insult to injury to his already bleak situation.

He abruptly turned to look at Lu Mian.

“Tell , my dear Mian Xiaobao who’s so outstanding, so adorable, so gentle, kind, and generous—how could she not be good enough for you? I’ve said it before, she’s the best girl in the universe, unmatched! Having her as your match is an absolute steal for you!”

Yun Zhijuan’s over-the-top complints flowed effortlessly without pause.

Xiao Qimo sat there for a long while, his slightly drooping eyelids occasionally trembling. It was the only sign he was still alive.

anwhile, Lu Mian quietly retrieved the steel wire held in her hand and decided to let Yun Zhijuan off the hook. She had also co to realize that the person her master had referred her to… was Director Qimo.

Ti flashed back to when she had just returned to Wucheng. Old Yun worried she’d engage in dangerous activities and decided to distract her by arranging a romance.

She refused over and over, later making it clear that she already had a boyfriend.

Of course, if she rembered correctly, even though she adamantly disagreed, she had never, in fact, said anything bad about the man in question.

Lu Mian’s gaze drifted darkly and subtly toward the man beside her. Sohow, Director Qimo had already badmouthed her so many tis.

Ha, n.

“Mianmian…” Xiao Qimo felt like a cheating scumbag caught red-handed by his girlfriend, stiffly muttering, “Let explain!”

Lu Mian raised a delicate brow, giving him a look that said: “Go ahead, I’m listening.”

Xiao Qimo: …

Now he truly understood what it ant to be utterly speechless.

He was the picture of grievance: he genuinely hadn’t known the girl Yun Zhijuan introduced him to was her. Had he known…

Yun Zhijuan let out a strange, sarcastic grunt. “Know now, do you? Every ti I tried to bring you two together, however painstakingly, not only did you never appreciate it, you hit and bullied … Ugh, count yourself how many tis you’ve rejected , huh!”

“…”

Xiao Qimo couldn’t count, nor did he dare to.

Every ti he recalled it, he wanted to beat himself to death.

Another missed chance!

Once again, he had missed an opportunity with Lu Mian.

The Shadow Hunting Team was one missed chance, Sufeng Ga Company was another, when his grandfather was saved by Lu Mian—that made one more, and now this matchmaking catastrophe added to the tally.

Xiao Qimo “excitedly” realized that he was either missing out on Lu Mian, or on his way to doing so.

Over and over again…

What frustrated him even more was the fact that, though he could’ve taken a shortcut to win Lu Mian over, he stubbornly chose to take the long, arduous, obstacle-filled path to pursue her.

Xiao Qimo opened his mouth, but even if Lu Mian were willing to forgive him this ti, he was unable to forgive himself.

Across the table, Yun Zhijuan smirked gleefully, enjoying the drama. “Junior brother, with the way you treat your wife—hitting and insulting her—in our family, you’d be drowned in a pig cage!”

Xiao Qimo: “…”

What kind of unfounded accusation was this? Surely everyone’s family had so ridiculous rules!

Given his grandfather’s and parents’ regard for Lu Mian, he might very well et his end in rhythmical precision.

Xiao Qimo felt a jolt in his chest, refusing to let his thoughts wander further. He shot an icy glare at Yun Zhijuan. “Can you just shut up? With such a knack for exaggeration, why don’t you go be a chef?”

“Oh-ho, still dare to talk back?”

Yun Zhijuan hadn’t yet started roasting Xiao Qimo when Lu Mian turned her chilly, spite-filled gaze his way.

“What’s wrong with being a chef? Disrespect chefs, do you? I founded MM Ji myself, and I worked as a chef too.”

“…” Xiao Qimo ntally slapped himself. “Mianmian, I didn’t an that!”

The more he tried to explain himself, the more powerless he felt.

In the end, he’d already lost the will to live.

“I was wrong, Mianmian. Pretend that everything I just said wasn’t speaking.”

“Hmm…” Lu Mian put her mask back on.

Aligning perfectly with her identity card was the set of Tarot Cards neatly laid out on the eting table.

The only card facing upward: The Demon.

Lu Mian reached out with her elegant and slender fingers, lifting the Demon card between two fingertips and gently blowing on it.

Then, in a voice both lethargic and cold as frost, her words drifted into Xiao Qimo’s ears.

“Right, you’re not Director Qimo. Director Qimo should be in Las Vegas right now.”

“…”

Xiao Qimo had always been aware of Lu Mian’s sharp ability to roast others alive. One comnt could choke soone to death, earning her the title “Queen of Cobacks.”

Only the restless spirits of dearly departed victims haunted by her wit remained; no one had ever truly beaten her banter.

After spending so much ti with her, watching her grow calr and softer, almost approachable, Xiao Qimo had nearly forgotten this side of her existed.

The Queen of Cobacks has returned, and Xiao Qimo only wished for seppuku.

He could totally retort though! That little rascal had said she’d stay in Wucheng and yet here she was. But given the current circumstances, Xiao Qimo was resolutely the lowest rung on the food chain. Even if he was roasted alive or suffocated, he couldn’t ntion this point.

Across from him, Yun Zhijuan chuckled with intrigue. The family’s power dynamic was glaringly clear.

Seeing his precious disciple so formidable, Yun Zhijuan felt reassured.

As long as his disciple wasn’t being mistreated, who cared about the junior brother?

Still scrambling to explain and reason, Xiao Qimo pleaded, “Mianmian, you’ve always been clear-headed and rational. Surely you can see this is soone trying to divert the topic? Yes, I did those things and said those words, but all of it happened when I wasn’t aware of the truth. Ignorance is innocence—just forgive already!”

Lu Mian flicked the Demon card in her hand, producing a crisp “snap” sound. With her brows knitted in clear displeasure, she countered, “Are you suggesting that I’m being unreasonable now?”

Xiao Qimo: …

Before Xiao Qimo could attempt any rebuttal, Lu Mian’s fingers built up motion as she snapped the card outward in one swift move.

Its target: Xiao Qimo.

The man never anticipated her striking out. When he hadn’t yet realized her identity, hitting hard made sense. But now Xiao Qimo could only think: that protective, doting little rascal she used to be… was gone.

He swiftly tilted his head to dodge, avoiding imdiate disaster, though a few stray strands of hair weren’t so lucky, cut loose and left to drift in solitude.

Turning his gaze, Xiao Qimo watched as the card spiraled toward the wall, embedding itself straight into it.

Closing his eyes briefly, Xiao Qimo reflected.

His twenty-three years of life had never been harder than this.

From across the table, Yun Zhijuan let out a stifled laugh.

See? Now he finally grasps my earlier sentint?

Serves him right!

Yun Zhijuan’s untily laughter left Lu Mian dissatisfied.

Still toying with another Tarot card in her hand, her gaze darkened as she set her sights on Yun Zhijuan.
