"I can’t believe he turned out like that. In front of everyone, he used to act like there was no one better and cultured than him," lony exasperated as they all sat on the ground doing nothing as it was their free lecture.
"Can you explain this question?" Elliana looked at Daniel, who nodded and explained the concept of plant distribution to her.
"Uhh, don’t tell about it. I can’t even tell you how many tis we got bashed by our parents with the sa topic of how we should learn from him. He was the perfect kid in their eyes," Daniel added after he was done explaining Elliana.
"Yeah, dude. Look at him rotting in the jail now. Serves him right for everything we went through because of him. That’s what we call a chaleon, don’t we? People who change their colors and act like they belong sowhere when they clearly don’t," Drake said, and Elliana’s pen paused on the notebook.
She knew they were talking about so vampire in their circle, but for so reason, it felt like the words fitted her situation too.
Wasn’t she doing the sa? Wasn’t she also hiding the truth from them and acting like a human when she was a species they would hate?
"Where are you looking at? Solve this soon. You don’t really have the ti to slack anymore if you want to ace with good marks," Daniel turned the page for Elliana and pointed at another question, making her smile awkwardly.
"Why don’t you take a break if you don’t feel like studying?" Samantha walked to them with so drinks in her hand, and Elliana blinked at her before nodding.
"I think Samantha is right, I should take so rest. My brains feel like they have been fried from all the mugging up of information," Elliana moaned before laying flat on the ground, making them chuckle.
"And here I thought you were good at everything. Look at you struggling to keep up with your studies," lony laughed at Elliana.
"Serves her right for spending the entire day in the laboratory," Alcinder scoffed at Elliana, making her grit her teeth.
"Well, at least I am doing sothing. What are you doing? Drinking acid because you couldn’t work the pipette properly?" Elliana retorted.
"Well, at least I am not getting burnt up by acid and making everyone worry," Alcinder replied with a smirk.
"Well, at least I ca up with an experint of my own," she smiled back, sitting straight now.
"Well, -"
"Can you two stop it? Uhh, you act like kids sotis. We can understand Elliana since she is a kid, but you Alcinder?" Samantha said, and Alcinder raised his brows.
"Why is she a kid, and I am treated like I am so centuries-old vampire?" Alcinder looked at Samantha with a wronged expression, making her smile at him.
"Well, that’s because -" Elliana started but stopped when Dexter held her hand and pulled her up.
"Hey, where are you taking her?" lony asked, but Dexter just gave her a look, not saying anything nonetheless as he pulled Elliana away.
Dexter stopped suddenly, making her bump into his hand slightly and he turned around with a sigh.
"What is going on here, Elliana?" Dexter asked with a serious face.
Elliana narrowed her eyes.
She didn’t understand what he was talking about. A lot was happening around her, so it was hard to pinpoint what exactly he was pointing at.
"What are you -"
"What is going on between you and the youngest masked prince Sebastian Marino?" Dexter asked.
Elliana furrowed her brows.
"Where is this suddenly coming from? Don’t you know what’s going on? I have a massive crush on him," Elliana said as if it was nothing to worry about, and Dexter gritted his teeth.
He looked at the innocent girl in front of him and sighed.
"Elliana, my poor friend, what have you gotten yourself into? Yesterday I went back ho for the family dinner and heard from my dad that Sebastian Marino was married. Did you know about it? That man is probably playing with your feelings," Dexter said before placing his hands on her shoulders, making her sigh.
She didn’t know what to say at the mont.
She wanted to tell him the truth and say that she was the girl he was married to, but it was too risky, and in a place full of vampires, she didn’t want to risk it.
As much as she was tempted to tell Dexter she knew about it, she knew if she did that, he might think she was one of those venomous vixens who believed in breaking hos.
"It’s a one-sided love, Dexter. Don’t worry. You know . I won’t let anyone take advantage of my emotions," Elliana whispered.
Dexter looked into her eyes for a second before sighing.
"It’s not that I don’t believe you. I just don’t trust your life choices. You have been getting into trouble quite often. Among all the handso n and people you could’ve fallen for, you fell for the strongest and most dangerous vampire prince. You go around risking your life, and if that wasn’t enough, you tried to kiss that prince," Dexter sighed.
"I know what are you talking about, Dexter, but believe -"
"I can’t, okay? When it cos to -"
Dexter started and Elliana wanted to continue listening to him when she suddenly felt her phone vibrating in her pocket.
"Please, excuse ," Elliana narrowed her eyes when she saw the call was from none other than Sasha.
She walked to so distance, her expression turning serious.
"Hmm?" Elliana asked.
Sasha imdiately started speaking as soon as she made sure it was their boss indeed.
"The operation of that kid has been successful. Ummm... Do you know who you helped? Who is this Kevin guy?" Sasha asked, and Elliana denied.
"That’s not the important part here. Tell how things are going. What is Marcello thinking of doing now?" Elliana asked, looking around to ensure no one was nearing her or listening to her talk.
"Marcello is laying low for the ti being, boss. Things are not in our favor at the mont. We just got the intel from Marcello that the crowning ceremony is shifting to a closer date. Probably in ten days," Sasha said, freezing Elliana in her place for a few seconds.
Thump!
It was almost as if soone hit Elliana straight in the heart, and she stumbled, her back hitting the tree.
She gulped.
"What did you say?" Elliana asked to confirm.
"The ceremony is shifted closer. The decision was made half an hour ago by the king himself. I think it’s related to his health. So Marcello has decided to lay low since the security will be highest than before, and the chances of getting caught -"
"I will talk to you later," Elliana whispered, not having the confidence to do anything or be able to talk to anyone at the mont.
She ended the call and gasped loudly to breathe as much air as she could. It almost felt like soone was choking and blogging her throat, her hand instinctively going towards her heart as she clenched her fist around her dress, trying to ease the pain that was spreading in her entire body.
The crowning ceremony was being preponed. The 22 days she thought she had with the love of her life were reduced to 10 days or so.
Tears brimd in her eyes as she started walking towards the terrace of the building, feeling lost.
Since it was happening so soon, the voting would start soon, and Mr. Marino would beco even busier than ever and he wouldn’t have ti for her.
She had exams this week too, and she knew she needed to ace those exams too. Everything started muffling in her head as it felt like her head would explode from all the stress.
She started taking deep breaths, hot tears flowing down her cheeks now as a sob broke from her mouth. She looked up to stop her tears, but it didn’t work.
Unsure of what she was feeling, she extended her hand and opened her palm to the sky.
"Take away from these miseries," She whispered, her body jerking in surprise when she found herself in a completely different area or probably the world.
