It was a tough decision for Dexter.
If he ca out at this point, Elliana would know he was following her, and it might put an unfilled ditch in their friendship, which was the last thing he wanted to happen.
And if he didn’t co out and dashed on the other side to save his life, the wolves will think of him as an intruder and might kill him.
There are no rules of protection or trials or second chances when it cos to trespassing a territory and then running like a coward.
Everything was confusing right now.
What was Elliana doing here in the sunflower field among the wolves? Why did she wear such a strong scent? Why was she covering her face in a way that only a part of her eyes was visible? What was her deal with them? Why were these wolves even listening to a re human?
What was her connection to this Duke? Was he the one she is connected to? The one who sent those bodyguards with her. Was he the nad devil those bodyguards were talking about? And why the hell a vampire Duke was living in the middle of the wolves’ territory? Why were these wolves allowing it in the first place? All of it was confusing him.
Dexter bit his lips, his hand clenching on the partially wet soil of the field.
The yellow-blazing eyes of the rogue wolf watched his every movent closely.
The wolf was losing his patience. Dexter could see that clearly from the manner his paws tingled slightly.
Grrrrrrrr... Grr... The wolf bared his teeth at him, and Dexter gulped.
"Violet, what are you doing over there?" The elderly lady said, and judging from her squinted brows, it was clear that she sensed his presence too.
Dexter saw the lady walking to Elliana and whispering sothing into her ears, making the latter nod in understanding.
What did she say to Elliana? Was he exposed already? His heart drumd in his chest with anxiousness.
Creak! Creak!
He heard the sounds of twigs breaking behind him and turned around to see if another wolf was sneaking behind him.
No one was there. He heaved a breath of relief.
However, as soon as he turned around, his eyes ca in contact with amber ones, looking at him curiously, and he fell backward.
"Damn it!" He cursed out loud, making Elliana give him a fake smile.
"Are you planning to get yourself killed, Dexter? Just co out already, yeah?" Elliana said, and though her expression was calm and collective, Dexter could see the anger brewing in her eyes.
"Elliana, I... I..." Dexter started, but she didn’t wait to hear his words.
She turned around and walked back to the Duke that was quite familiar to him. He has seen him sowhere, but where? Maybe at so party? Or at a gathering? Or maybe he visited their main house? Dexter stood from his place and walked out of the fields with an edgy expression on his face.
It was hard to decipher what Elliana was thinking at the mont.
Grrrr... Woof... O. The collective sounds of wolves started echoing in the sunflower fields.
"He is with ," Elliana told everyone, and though they stopped making sounds, their bare teeth were enough indication for Dexter that one wrong move and he will see his death today.
"What are you doing? Why didn’t you pick up my calls?" Elliana asked, and Marcello looked away in guilt.
"I wanted to et you to-"
"Do you think it’s funny?" Elliana cut him mid-sentence.
"Do you have any idea how scared I was when I couldn’t reach you or the couple?" Elliana turned to the elder couple.
"I can understand that he is a jerk, but you? Why didn’t you pick up your calls? Last ti I checked, your paynts ca from and not him," Elliana looked at the old lady who also looked away in guilt.
"Don’t bla them. It was . I paid them extra money to not pick up your calls so that you could co here," Marcello said, and Elliana scoffed.
"I didn’t know the vampires and wolves could beco such good friends. It was a mistake. I ca here as soon as I could to check on you guys because none of you were picking up my calls, and I was afraid sothing bad happened to you guys. But what did I receive in the end? You guys were pranking ?" Elliana asked, and Marcello looked down at his feet.
"It wasn’t a prank, Elliana. I needed to see you and bring you here because -"
"Are you a kid, Marcello? You are a grown-ass man who is probably centuries older than . What do you an you wanted to see ? Do you think I would fall for this, I miss you trap?" Elliana roared, and Dexter thinned his lips.
Why was she pretending to be so angry? He has seen what an angry version of Elliana looks like, and this was nowhere one percent of that, so why the hell was she pretending?
It was almost as if she cares about them so much but wants to show them she can be angry at the sa ti.
"Will you at least hear out before you pass your judgnt?" Marcello stepped forward to hold her hand when he rembered it wasn’t allowed.
Elliana’s gaze shifted to his hand that was reaching out to her before he fisted his hand and placed them to his sides, making her sigh in relief.
"It’s not about this ti, okay? Yeah, I agree that I missed you, and I know it sounds nonsensical because this is a pure business relationship, but even old people miss soone close to them. And I am not that old, okay?" Marcello sighed before looking at Elliana with a serious expression.
"I didn’t call you here for myself. I called you here for her," Marcello nudged toward the door of the house, and Elliana saw a hint of silhouette, her eyes narrowing.
"Cover your face," she ordered, not wanting Dexter to see more than he already has.
Glow did as Elliana told her before she extended her hand to call Elliana towards herself, her body still hiding behind the door.
Dexter looked at the weird people around him in confusion.
What was going on here? Why is everything around her becoming more and more mysterious? He saw Elliana walking towards the house and gulped.
Should he follow her? Yes, he should. She is the only person who can protect him from these hungry wolves.
Dexter nodded at himself and was about to walk behind her when Marcello held his hand.
"Why were you following her, Dexter?"
Dexter heard the vampire Duke saying his na, and by the intensity, he called the na, it was obvious that he didn’t like him.
And guess what? The feelings were mutual.
Elliana walked inside the house and looked at Glow with thinned lips.
"This better be important, Glow. I don’t want to hear about your attachnt issues. I took a lot of risks to co here today," Elliana said.
Glow didn’t say anything. Though she was mute, she would’ve been already signing things with her hands, but today she didn’t, and Elliana sensed sothing was wrong.
"What happened?" She stepped closer to Glow and held her hand.
However, what she hadn’t expected was for Glow to hug her tightly, almost crushing her bones.
She didn’t ntion it. She could feel Glow needed her.
"Hey, what’s wrong? Did soone bully you? Did Marcello say anything? I’ll kill that -" Elliana turned around to leave but Glow held her hand.
She pointed in the direction of the other room with tear-brimming eyes, and Elliana looked at the door warily.
"Who’s behind the door, Glow?" Elliana paused.
"Where’s Misha?" She asked, and a tear slipped down her eyes.
"Tell ," Elliana’s eyes beca stern, and Glow gulped.
"As you have asked us to return to the nation and et Marcello, we left in front of you. However, as we neared the seashore, we saw a bad woman. A siren. She was killing and eating a human rcilessly.
Though Misha is a vampire, she was never exposed to such harshness. She isn’t talking to anyone. I tried to persuade her so many tis, but she just threw out of the room. She is neither talking nor shedding tears. I am afraid," Glow signed furiously in frustration, and Elliana sighed.
