’You will never be a monster for ,’ Elliana’s words echoed in Sebastian’s head, and he sighed before entering his room.

"Sir, did you talk to Sir Vincenzo? How is the princess doing now? Is she fine now? I have dropped that boy into his room already," Lucas said.

He looked at his Prince who was in so deep thought and didn’t know how to continue.

"Vincenzo has invited Elliana to the royal Kingdom on the elder sister’s birthday," Sebastian said after a long ti.

"I want you to look into who this Madam Gertrude is. That friend of Princess, I think was out to sleep by a witch. When I entered her room earlier, I sensed the presence of a strong witch. Chances are that the witches might co and target Elliana because I killed one of their kind," Sebastian sat on the bed before clenching his hand around the bed sheets.

"It’s botherso," he paused.

"Now I’ll have to think about her safety too. As if I didn’t have enough things on my plate, I have to think to keep a human safe, a person from the sa species who snatched everything from ," Sebastian grumbled, throwing his mask away angrily.

Lucas looked at his prince who was clearly frustrated about sothing and didn’t know how to react.

Why did it feel like he was using his anger in this situation to hide sothing bigger and different?

He says it was botherso, but was it really? If he really didn’t care about the princess, why was he worried about her safety? If she gets killed by a witch, it won’t be his fault, would it be? His grandpa won’t say anything. So why was the prince stressing it so much?

Lucas smiled as his prince threw the bedsheets on the ground.

This frustration was surely about sothing different.

"She says I can’t be a monster for her. How stupid can she be?! How the hell is she so stupid?! Can’t she see who she is married to? Does she not hear about outside? Does she not care that I might be a complete demon behind the mask? Why the hell did she have to turn this weak and innocent!" Sebastian growled, and Lucas didn’t know if it was okay for him to smile at a ti like this.

The prince finally said what was he really worried about. And it was indeed sothing else. Soone that was becoming dear to him and inching towards his heart slowly. He was worried for Princess.

"It was a mistake. Marrying her was a big mistake I made. I should’ve never married her. What the heck was wrong with ? None of this was in the plans. It shouldn’t be going like this. Fuck. Fuck!!" Sebastian kicked away the bed before looking at his mask.

’Show your face only when you trust enough. Like I really really like you, Mr. Marino. Thank you for being so considerate to . I like you, Mr. Marino,’

Elliana’s words were like an endless chant that he wasn’t able to get out of his mind, and he gritted his teeth.

He was about to crush the mask, but the sane side of him knew this mask was important on this trip, and he grabbed the mask before putting that on his face angrily.

"Sir, I am sure you don’t an that. How can marrying the princess be a fault? She has been nothing but docile ever since she ca. She doesn’t even conspire with humans like you suspected," Lucas said, and Sebastian looked at his subordinate.

"Is that sothing I should be happy about? Doesn’t it make her more useless than she is? " He asked, and Lucas sighed.

"I don’t an that, sir. I am just trying to ask why you are hating on her. Why are you cursing this marriage? You can feel it too. I know it. Ever since she ca into the kingdom, the palace that used to be a place for walking robots has started to look like a ho. She has filled the palace with happiness and changed your life -"

"I don’t need a fucking human to change my palace and make it ho. I don’t need a fucking human to change my ways.

Do I even deserve a ho? Shouldn’t I be living a life of miseries?! Who the hell is she to co into my life and think she can light up everything?! How dare she think it is okay to love a demon and show him what feelings are like?" Sebastian growled in anger.

"Pathetic! She is nothing more than a pathetic human. A pathetic human who is nothing more than a stepping stone for . The stepping stone that would take to the throne. Nothing more," Sebastian gritted his teeth before looking at Lucas.

"I’ll pull her heart out the mont I get that throne. That beating, innocent heart inside her chest that she is so proud of, I’ll crush it with my bare hands.

This marriage shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I can’t pretend to be a good man anymore. I am sick of it!" Sebastian shouted in frustration, taking deep breaths to calm his anger.

He looked at Lucas to tell him to leave him alone because he was too angry suddenly he paused.

"I’ll allow that," Elliana’s soft voice echoed in the silent room, shocking Lucas.

He turned to the princess with wide eyes.

There she was, standing in a new outfit, her eyes brimming with tears with a soft angelic smile on her face.

Probably every vampire in the Inn could hear her fast-beating heart.

She didn’t move, not the smile on her face that she was clearly forcing. Her gaze was fixated on Sebastian, whose eyes flickered with guilt for a second before going back to being cold.

"Princess, that’s not what sir -" Lucas started but Elliana raised her hand, making him pause.

"If that will make you happy, Mr. Marino, I’ll allow that. So don’t worry about making sad. I also know that I am nothing more than a stepping stone to you, but you don’t have to be so loud about that. You know I am a human. A stupid pathetic weak human who easily grows feelings," Elliana smiled, the pain of rejection visible in her eyes.

"I... I know you try to be considerate of , and maybe my confession earlier is what triggered you. I understand that. But these are my emotions. You can’t take them from , do you?" She stepped forward before walking to Sebastian.

"You don’t have to be sad about it. It has always been like this for . Everyone who was dear to has hated at least once.

It’s my curse, I guess.

But I would still be thankful to you. Do you know why? Because even if it’s for three months, you showed that I can be happy too," She took a deep shaky breath, barely controlling her tears.

Her hands were clenched on her dress, trembling slightly as Sebastian kept looking at her with void eyes.

"So if after three months when you get the throne you will ask to leave and never return, I’ll do that happily. I will never show you my face. And if killing , pulling my heart, and crushing it will make you more happy, that’s okay too. Well, at least I got to live happily before I die, no?" Elliana smiled as a tear rolled down her eyes, and Sebastian clenched his hand on the bedsheets.

Elliana chuckled in self-mockery before sighing.

"But can you do a favor, Mr. Marino? I know it’s a bit hard on you, but can you keep pretending to be what you have been? I want to die with happy mories of us if that’s possible.

You don’t have to do these petty jobs of taking to lunch or dinner or anything. Don’t care about my safety either. As long as I am not dying at your hands, no one will accuse you. Just, act like how you used to, okay?" Elliana extended her hand to cup his cheeks.

But stopped midway. Right. He never really felt anything for her. With what right does she want to show her affection to him?

"I... You... You don’t have to follow on this trip anymore. I’ll be fine," Elliana smiled and left the room, closing the door behind her.

Seeing the princess leaving like that, Lucas looked away, blinking back his tears. He didn’t need to hear it, the sound of her breaking heart that shattered into thousands of pieces.

She didn’t deserve any of this.

Lucas took a deep shaky breath to control his emotions.

"Guess, half of your problem is solved, sir," Lucas smiled before leaving the room. He didn’t want to shed his tears in front of his prince who was the reason his princess cried today.
