Chapter 1044: 1043. I’m very confused
Tang Shu: “…”
Totally stunned. The person involved found it a bit abrupt.
So, she had snatched Chen Xin’s role? That was really unexpected.
Scriptwriter Wen seed to notice her anxiety and imdiately laughed, “Don’t worry, I’ve already communicated with both of them. Chen Xin, since she has signed on for two movies that are currently in preparation, sees this as good news.”
“She’s taken on two movies?”
“Yeah, she even tried to find you earlier. You can ask her about it.”
Tang Shu chatted with Scriptwriter Wen for a while longer, confirming the week’s shooting schedule. Then, outside the production team, under a large tree, she soon spotted Chen Xin, who was making a call.
After a few months without seeing this forr child star, she was still the sa, her eyes curving into crescents when she smiled. At the mont, she was wearing a red dress and was talking about sothing with soone on the phone.
“Hey~~ Xiao Shushu, I was just looking for you!”
Chen Xin ended the call and walked over, pulling her into one of the makeup rooms prepared by the production team.
“I have to thank you.”
“…Wait a minute. What are you thanking for?”
For soone as sharp as Tang Shu, even she couldn’t help but be taken aback. The information in her head wasn’t enough to piece all the clues together.
Just a mont ago, she had learned that the female lead’s role had been reduced to Female Lead No.2, and now Chen Xin was thanking her? Sothing seed off.
Chen Xin giggled and clung to her arm without letting go, “Scriptwriter Wen must have ntioned it to you, right? My role for Season Four has been cut down.”
“Yeah, she said you’ve signed on for two movies and might not have much ti to shoot this weekly drama.”
Tang Shu wasn’t sure whether congratulations were appropriate or if she should offer so comfort. After all, in the entertainnt circle, getting your role snatched always ant you were in the weaker position.
However, Chen Xin’s focus didn’t seem to be on the plot of “You Smile 4.”
“Exactly! One of the movies is Director Xie’s. He told you recomnded to him, so that’s why I have to thank you~~~”
“…”
Oh. She rembered now.
Tang Shu’s mind quickly connected the dots, and so mories started resurfacing. When they were shooting “Typhoon” last year, she had indeed ntioned sothing about Chen Xin’s acting skills. Turns out Xie Yunqing had taken it to heart back then.
“Don’t thank . Your acting skills are so good, Director Xie had already noticed you as a forr child star.”
“Hey, co on! I’ve been an adult for years now, okay? Stop calling a child star, or we’re not friends anymore!”
“No way. I grew up watching your performances.”
“You’re asking for trouble, aren’t you?”
Chen Xin made an exaggerated grimace devoid of any humor, pulling out her little fists and playfully swinging them at Tang Shu.
The two old pals, reconnecting after a while, had plenty to talk about—mainly venting frustrations. Given that the shooting location for this weekly drama had been near the film city for three years, they soon found a favorite private dining spot and settled into a private room to chat.
“Let tell you, that crappy director actually tried to make advances on . I turned him into a swollen-faced pig right then and there!”
“So that’s the big gossip behind your refusal to shoot last month that caused such a stir?”
“Yes, exactly! I’m not that kind of person. How could I let that pighead manipulate ? If not for the fact that the role was pretty good, I wouldn’t have taken on that drama at all!”
Tang Shu was speechless for a while, sighing as she glanced at the table, “Couldn’t you think of a win-win solution? Why do you always have to confront people head-on? It doesn’t do you any good.”
Why did an entertainnt veteran still not see this clearly? It was as if Tang Shu, a newbie who had only been in the industry for three years, had to give her lessons on how to handle things. Totally illogical!
Tang Shu felt like she was a young girl carrying the worries of an old caretaker, her mind furrowing with wrinkles from overthinking.
Chen Xin let out a dramatic sigh, “Then what would you suggest? Punching him made feel better! There’s not much chance to vent in this industry. At least I have the privilege to be bold.”
Compared to other actors without connections, she was indeed in a better position.
“You could’ve just found a few people to ambush him at night, put a sack over his head and rough him up. Maybe take so compromising photos as leverage and warn him to behave in the future… In short, problems solvable with brains should aim not to expose yourself.”
“Yikes—I never imagined you’d be this kind of Shushu!”
“Not at all, it’s just a family tradition.”
“…Are you really okay with tarnishing Grandmother Tang’s reputation like this?”
Tang Shu was tempted to say that, based on Grandma Tang’s “revenge on the sa day” style back in the day, she might’ve been even harsher than Tang Shu herself. But considering Chen Xin’s hero-worship of Grandma Tang… Better not ruin the image.
Got to preserve the Tang family’s dignity.
Since both girls were actresses, even when they went out to a private restaurant, they strictly controlled their food intake to maintain their figures. The large portion of vegetable salad was polished off, marking the end of their al.
“You just said Director Xie’s movie starts shooting tomorrow?”
“Yeah, that’s why Director Liu scheduled all of my ‘You Smile 4’ scenes for today. Though the overti is a bit tiring, thinking of Director Xie’s movie has feeling pretty excited!”
Chen Xin was genuinely thrilled. Although she had been a child star, she hadn’t fild many movies, and this one centered on her as a key character—a rebellious daughter of the male lead. It was definitely a breakthrough for her acting career.
Tang Shu saw her joy and chuckled softly, “So I don’t have any scenes to shoot this afternoon. You better bring your A-ga later.”
“Oh~~ Should I have eaten more earlier?”
“Want to order you another portion?”
Chen Xin shook her head with feigned indignation and refused, “Forget it. For the sake of my on-screen image, I must restrain myself.”
At this mont, Tang Shu’s phone vibrated with a notification. She glanced at the screen and decided to get up and leave.
“Soone’s here to pick up. I’ve got things to do this afternoon. Rember to say hello to Director Xie for tomorrow when you report to the movie set.”
“No problem! Go on, Miss Busybody~~ Although I’ve no idea what keeps you so busy every day.”
Honestly, in Chen Xin’s eyes, Tang Shu was the strangest actress she’d ever t. When most celebrities finally gained so traction, they would instantly start hustling nonstop. Yet, she was the most laid-back one, taking on roles purely based on chance, while still being too busy to be found anywhere.
So odd.
Oddball Tang Shu stepped out of the private dining spot and spotted Jing Yu standing by the business car. His all-black suit made his legs look long and straight, his stature tall and composed. People nearby couldn’t help but turn their heads to look, a textbook Overbearing Boss vibe.
Tang Shu’s lips curled slightly upward as she adjusted the mask on her nose and approached him.
“You handed everything off to Sister Xiao Bei again?”
“Getting a head start on the whole ‘taking charge’ experience isn’t a bad idea.”
“Are you seriously planning to hand the company over to her?”
“Even if it’s to prepare for our honeymoon trip in advance?”
“…”
Tang Shu lost yet another verbal sparring match, glaring at him before climbing into the front passenger seat. Jing Yu drove off toward Cloudscape Pharma, and before long, they arrived at their destination.
