Chapter 143: Lightning

Adeline let out another exasperated sigh and said, "But it is! You didn’t want to go into the ruins. You only went because I went..." She felt like she was causing so many problems... The feeling of guilt ca to her too often.

"And I would have died if you didn’t co here in the first place. We are alive now, are we not? So stop worrying." Dimitri sat up with enthusiasm. After being healed, his vigour ca back. He was kind of grateful that they t this way. The previous goodbye was hard...

And he didn’t feel like it was the best one. Right now, this... This was one last adventure before he left and it was just them, no one else. This felt like the perfect goodbye.

The Mage Tower should not be too far from here. He could vaguely make out the top of the tower from in between the trees. He will be able to complete this journey.

He felt assured knowing that the Goddess could guide her back while making sure no monster approached her...

Those monsters were... They were treacherous beings. How could any civilisation survive when such beings were around? No wonder many of them fell... The monsters remained victorious.

How could one ever quell this problem? They couldn’t, many tried but it was all in vain...

"I guess..." Adeline muttered, her voice very low, despite what he said, she knew that so fault lay in her too.

Her words interrupted Dimitri’s thoughts. He simply just smiled at her to show that he was okay.

Their mont of respite was short-lived. A rustling sound in the underbrush made Adeline freeze. Dimitri tensed, his hand instinctively moving to his sword hilt, but unfortunately, he didn’t have a sword!

This journey was a trial for the Mage Tower, he intended to use only his magic so he didn’t bother bringing a sword with him.

The sound grew louder, accompanied by guttural growls and the thud of heavy footsteps.

Erging from the shadows were creatures unlike anything Adeline had seen before—lion-like predators, their bodies massive and muscular, their golden eyes glowing with feral intensity. Their fur shimred, and sharp claws raked the earth as they prowled closer.

These were anything like the animals she was familiar with! These monstrous lions, tigers etc were at least three tis bigger than their usual size! But she guessed that this was their usual size since she was comparing them to the animals from her world.

"There’s more than one," Dimitri muttered, his voice low. He didn’t seem too surprised, but how? She was struggling to accept it, wasn’t this ruin protecting them? Was there a ti limit to the protection?!

Free protection lasts for only one hour, kindly subscribe to the premium plan for extended protection.

Adeline clenched her fist in anger. Why do these things always happen to her? She couldn’t rember the last peaceful day she had.

Anxiety flickered in Dimitri’s eyes, though he tried to mask it. Adeline however, shook her head, unwilling to show any fear.

"Ti to try out whatever power I got from that ruin," She said firmly, raising her right hand.

If this journey to the ruins was for nothing she was going to go all ’Karen’ and speak to the Goddess’s manager!

Adeline focused her energy, willing it to gather in her palm. The air around her crackled with static as tendrils of lightning began to form, dancing across her skin. The creatures growled, sensing the change in the atmosphere, but they didn’t retreat. Instead, they charged.

With a sharp cry, Adeline unleashed the lightning. A brilliant bolt shot from her hand, striking the ground directly in front of the charging predators. The explosion of light and sound was blinding, forcing her to shield her eyes with her other hand.

When the light faded, Adeline opened her eyes, blinking against the afterimage. The scene before her left her stunned.

The predators were gone, replaced by a smouldering crater in the ground. Trees nearby had been scorched, their trunks charred black, and the sll of burnt earth hung heavy in the air.

Dimitri stood motionless for a mont before letting out a nervous laugh. "Well, remind

not to get on your bad side."

"..."

Did she just... Shoot out lightning?!

’Hey, Goddess! I have lightning powers! What the hell?’ Was she happy? Yes, yes she was. Finally, sothing useful. Sothing she can defend herself with... Well, she could do many things, not just defend herself.

"Oh my, your powers are stronger than I imagined! As expected of my chosen child. Adeline you did well!" The Goddess was gushing about herself and her excellent selection.

Adeline was about to thank the Goddess but after hearing her sing praises of herself she stopped. She was not going to enable a narcissist.

Adeline turned to him, her expression caught between amazent and horror. "That was... a lot more than I expected," She admitted.

Dimitri clapped her on the shoulder, his grin widening. "You just vaporized three monsters in one hit. I’d say that’s a win."

It was more than a win! It was... Sothing that was more than a win! She couldn’t find the words to describe it.

Have you seen that power?! She could vaporise whole cities with this! But she won’t, because she was a good child. A very kind, innocent child... Adeline smirked.

She felt very evil, she couldn’t stop laughing like a villain which made Dimitri frown. Was his lady, okay? She was in fact, not. She just had her first taste of power! The things she could do!

And also, she had the very rare lightning powers! Who cares if she makes an enemy out of the male leads in the future, if they dare to ss with her she will vapourise them. Mhuahahaha.

’So, is lightning the only power I got?’ Adeline cheekily asked the Goddess. What if she got other powers? What if she had all the powers?! She could be like a certain bald monk with a blue arrow on his head!

"You- You can’t even control your new powers and you’re already asking for more? Such an ungrateful child!" She sounded mad but she wasn’t mad at all. This was just their usual banter.

’There’s no harm in asking, just think how much better I’d be at changing the plot if I had all the powers. Hmm? I was just thinking about my mission, you know, the reason why you brought

here..."

Adeline was super enthusiastic about her new powers. She could finally protect her family! If anyone threatens her or her family’s safety, one big zap and she just becos a hero. Easy!

"Humph! Cocky child!" The Goddess scoffed.

"You know you love . You know you need ~"

Normally, Adeline wouldn’t be in a good mood after almost experiencing death twice. But she just received powers! She can wield lightning! She was going to be legendary! No one possessed lightning powers in centuries!

This ant that they wouldn’t know what to do if she attacked them! But wait... This ant that she wouldn’t be able to learn how to wield it either... Since there is no one to teach her!
