Chapter 111: Mom...
Walking into his ho, he wished to quickly head to his room but the scene in front of him shocked him...
Why was he here?!
All he wanted now was to disappear into his room and escape the weight of his failures. But as he entered the main hall, he froze, the colour draining from his face. Seated beside his wife, the Duchess, was the assassin!
How was this possible? His mind was racing... Did she know everything?! There were too many possibilities now... And too many thoughts occupied his mind. If she knew... Should he kill her? Can he kill her? He did not have powers!
No... He worked too hard and took too many risks for everything to go down the drain. He will figure out a way... He always has!
He looked at the Duchess hoping to gauge her reaction... Her emotions... But he saw nothing. Not anger, not disappointnt.
She was as cold as ice. She felt nothing for him. She had given up on him a long ti ago, he still thought she was the infatuated young woman she once was. She wasn’t the Eastern Duchess for no reason...
He was stupider than Adeline expected.
As the Duke struggled to process the situation, he realized they were not alone. Adeline and Dimitri stood off to the side, observing the room’s tension. And then he saw Everett. His son...
His eyes were red and swollen... No... No! The truth has been revealed. Everything he prepared has been slipping out from under him!
Everett looked at his father with an expression of anger and betrayal. He didn’t want to believe that his father was the one who caused his mother’s death... But what with the evidence right in front of him...
The silence in the room was suffocating. The Duke opened his mouth, perhaps to explain, perhaps to lie—but he found himself without words...

Earlier
After the Duchess learnt the entire story she decided to take matters into her own hands. It was quite unfortunate that nothing existed to prove paternity or maternity. No wonder there were very harsh punishnts for infidelity.
It was to instil fear among cheaters! Adeline unravelled the sche quicker than she expected, things were going too smoothly. She felt that sothing was off.
With the help of Dimitri, she was able to change her request, from investigating the won who were reported missing or dead, five years ago to a complete investigation on the woman Alice. They should be getting back to her soon.
By narrowing it down, she made it a lot easier for them. Finding information on one person? Easy.
When the sun rose, she realised they had been up all night, Dimitri was sleepy but tried his best to not yawn. She was sleepy too but her gut told her that things will go wrong soon, and those thoughts were enough to keep her wide awake.
She thought it would be best to finally reveal the information to Everett.
She and Dimitri waited for him to co down from his room. Seeing the two of them together he realised that he was being played.
"You- You told
that he betrayed you!" He pointed his finger at Dimitri and yelled. His mind was already overwheld and this was the tipping point for him.
"Calm down, Everett. Yes, I lied, but it was only to find out the truth. Do you recognise this fan?"
She wasn’t too sure about the idea of letting the killer of his mother et him just yet. So, she decided to reveal the truth before they t.
"You!" How could she say that she lied to him so casually?! It was his fault for trusting her. With clenched fists, he decided to let out his anger when he saw the fan in Dimitri’s hands...
He lunged forward to grab it... This was... This was his mother’s! How did they have it?!
"Didn’t I say that it was only to find out the truth... You better sit down for this." Adeline sighed. She kept her hands ready, to blast him with calming healing powers if he beca too agitated.
He slowly started realising the truth... The fan and the bloodstains on it... It ant only one thing. What Adeline said was true.
He collapsed on the ground in an instant, sobbing and hugging the fan close to his chest. Adeline didn’t expect this. She had just brushed him off to be a bully but... He was a troubled child... A poor kid who was manipulated by his father.
She bit her lip and hesitated for a second before patting him in an effort to console him. She used her powers to calm him down a bit.
"Mom..." He sobbed in between hiccups.
It was at this mont the Duchess walked in. "Stop crying, boy. If you want justice for your mother you have to beco strong."
She was... Never good with children... Adeline gave her a look asking her to shush!
The Duchess frowned and continued, "The Duke has done many evil things and if you want him gone, you have to act."
Everett couldn’t hear any more of her words, he scread at her, "You don’t care about my mother! You just want to use
to deal with the Duke!"
The Duchess wasn’t offended by his unruly behaviour, she scoffed before saying, "While it is true that I don’t care about your mother, a woman who knowingly got involved with a married man... I will correct you on your second statent. I can deal with your father myself, I am the Eastern Duchess. I only offered you a chance to get revenge." Her eyes hid a blizzard.
She sat down and watched as the gears in Everett’s mind turned. She was a Duchess first and foremost, coddling a strange child wasn’t sothing she would do. However, she was interested in justice.
Whether he would take the chance or not was up to him.
Adeline summoned the man... She wanted to let Everett ask him questions or relieve his anger but it was at that mont the Duke arrived.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All the important mbers were seated in the hall, they looked at him with disdain and hatred.
He always wanted to be the centre of attention... But not this way. The Duchess looked at him with no feeling, he clenched his fists in anger. How could she not care? They were married for over a decade!
He turned to look at Adeline and Dimitri who looked down on him. Who gave those brats the audacity to look down on him, a Duke!
He wanted to yell that it was the Duchess who killed his mother. He felt thousands of emotions at once. Did he care about Everett? He cared about him like he cared about a pawn... Still, he was his only child... He had no one in this world except him.
He couldn’t let that child turn on him!
"It was... It was the Duchess... She hated your mother! She killed her!" He shouted like a crazy person. Trying to make sure his last sliver of hope doesn’t go out.
The Duchess wasn’t even shocked. This man had completely lost it.
