((A Few Monts Ago...))

"I....have a bad...feeling about y-you....but....a policy is a policy....it is located in the H-Heart...which is the deepest region in the third layer...I won’t tell you h-how, though...it will require another question o-out of your own three questions..."

So he said, but the following statent made Liohi freeze in place completely.

"....So choose carefully, Mitagi Hansen."

"...Huh?"

Liohi Kitagami heard a na that he had not heard before.

Or at least, he was absolutely sure that he had recalled never hearing that na before.

He stared at the Recordkeeper, puzzled, and the man anxiously flipped through the pages of his book, double checking sothing before he replied.

"W-What? Did I say sothing wrong, Mitagi? S-Shit, please tell that I at least got the pronunciation of your birth na correctly."

"....What....did you...just say?"

Liohi, completely stunned, continued to stare with an expressionless face, making the Recordkeeper even more anxious as they both remained inside the Immortal Library.

"Your gaze is not h-helping, man! Just....tell what I did wrong....and I’ll try to improve-"

"How did you know that?"

"Huh?"

The man paused on hearing that question, and as if it was one of the funniest questions that he had heard in a while, he chuckled before responding.

"I’m the Recordkeeper, duh? The complex magic from the concentrated mana is developed into sothing so strong that it delves into space and ti itself, and the power of mory that it collects from all visitors branches off into this one place, where I am able to take notes of everything. I know your na, your background, your personality, your habits, your past, and....I-I hate to also m-ntion this, but....y-your kinks."

"You could have simply not said that part, you know!?"

Liohi winced and responded with those words before pondering to himself.

Mitagi Hansen.

This was surely the first ti that he had heard his birth na, right? After all, he only knew that Liohi Kitagami was the na given to him by the chief of the Shinigami Soldiers, Matsuo Yamamoto.

Mitagi Hansen had been changed into Liohi Kitagami, but he only rembered being nad as the latter.

"By chance," the man in front of him interrupted his thoughts, "do you....n-not rember your past?"

"H-Huh? What?"

What the hell was this man talking about? Of course Liohi knew about his past.

I....I simply just forgot about my birth na. That’s all.....right?"

As if slowly questioning his existence, Liohi tried to think about any mory that was present before being taken in by Mastuo Yamamoto.

There was none.

"Ah, that makes sense," the Recordkeeper continued, flipping through more pages before stopping and skimming through so lines of text. "You have partial amnesia."

"Partial....amnesia?"

"Yes. There is a certain part of your life that you have forgotten about, forcefully due to trauma. It was like you refused to believe that it existed, until you actually, completely forgot about those events."

This information hit Liohi in the gut hard, and as if rejecting that notion instantly, he scoffed awkwardly and held his stomach.

"T-That’s not true."

"What about your parents, then? How do you know them?"

"I don’t know them, I know of them. There’s a difference," he mumbled back. "I heard from my chief that he was able to gain access to the Magical Beast Raider registration database, and my DNA matched those of a couple who were there perfectly. Their death was recorded as being from the Paradisus Legion. My parents were legal raiders who engaged on so mission, abandoning when I was rely a baby."

The older man sighed, and closed the book, placing it on his lap while Liohi continued, "That’s all that I know of my past, and honestly, that’s fine with . I don’t know what you’re getting at with his partial amnesia bullshit, but my life started when my chief decided to take in after I was abandoned by my parents."

"....Miles Hansen and Deborah Hansen. Those are the nas of your parents."

"-hk."

Liohi’s right eyebrow twitched as both of his eyes widened instantly, and before he could react...

"You’re right. Your parents were Magical Beast Raiders. Their mission kind of resembles your own mission today, despite so differences."

"What.....kind of mission did they undergo?"

"Huh? Y-You seriously....wanna know?"

"Do I wanna know just what sort of mission required my parents to discard and throw their lives away? Yes, yes I do, Mister Recordkeeper."

"....Ugh."

The man opened the book once more and flipped through several pages, before stopping completely.

"Miles Hansen and Deborah Hansen were legal, licensed Magical Beast Raiders, people who worked under the Magical Beast Cornerstone Corporation in an effort to scout and retrieve Magical Beast eggs, whether it be Common Tier or Rare Tier," he began. "At the ti, the Paradisus Legion was a bit more peaceful, with rogue Magical Beasts not being aggravated due to the balance of Kanshido and Kinen’s presence and influence in the Heart, and the region’s residents not being antagonistic."

His eyes narrowed as he continued, "Both of them were tasked with a huge mission to scope out and collect as many Magical Beast eggs that they could find as the region was like a treasure chest just waiting to be opened. Many raiders flocked to the scene and began the mission as the reward was bountiful. Miles and Deborah wanted to take this opportunity to secure a perfect life with their child as soon as possible and also joined."

Liohi pursed his lips.

In a sense, they had the sa ntality as him.

"Everything wasn’t bad, until the residents of the Paradisus Legion saw that the raiders were basically trying to loot everything from this place. Tensions grew as people decided to fight over what could stay and go, and it broke out into war. Miles and Deborah barely managed to survive, but they now found themselves in the third layer."

"T-The third layer...?"

"Correct. They were transported imdiately to the Dungeon District, but no black fog was present yet at that ti, so they were safe....until Kanshido had been retrieved by other Magical Beast Raiders in the third layer."

Liohi froze. Then, a chilling sensation crept over his body.

"No....are you trying to say that-"

"The ’Shihon’ that you possess currently is Kanshido, but you know that already due to your mories of second layer’s Killcount leader, Kaza..." the man continued, but his tone of voice beca even more serious as the revelation was now going to be set in stone.

"...What you did not know, however, is that your ’Shihon’ was taken by the Magical Beast Raiders mission spearheaded by the Magical Beast Cornerstone Corporation, which resulted in the balance being broken in the Heart, causing Kinen’s black fog of fury that burst through the Dungeon District which was the closest region to the Heart..."

He braced for the harsh truth.

"...And that fog, infested with distorted mories that made future victims go insane, killed your parents, ending that butterfly effect.
