[Trial Na : Black Death]
[When Klais Hasfeldt or an uncorrupted Aether develops Flare, humanity obtains a way to counter Cataclysms other than Elentals. As a result, the Demon Army montarily lose the advantage and in order to rebuild their collapsed front, they proceed to launch a biochemical terror attack against the whole Empire.]
This was the First Trial.
[Trial Na : Guillotine]
[The First Prince is freed from prison. He was able to resist the brainwashing of the Beasts and also had a strong reputation. Even the Beasts infiltrating the Empire struggled to overco his competence. In order to nip the danger in the bud, they will co up with any reason to purge the First Prince’s faction.]
This was the Second Trial.
[Trial Na : Steam Rain]
[The Lodestone of Fire has arrived at Tilette. The Beasts originally intended to take this Lodestone in a moderate way, but unforeseen variables occurred and they were on the verge of having to withdraw from the Empire. In a last ditch effort to take the Lodestone, Rosemary decides to launch a direct attack against Tilette Academy.]
And this was the Third Trial.
Trials two and three often took place together. As in, if one was fulfilled, then so was the other.
Currently, both of them were happening at the sa ti.
Shit.......
Verl ran like a madman. Carbon dioxide was filling and leaving his lungs repeatedly.
Even running was exhausting. He would’ve been able to run faster, longer if he had had an Elental.
I have to stop it before things get out of control.
Soone was probably dead by now.
In order to minimize casualties, he had to run with everything he had.
Verl headed toward Careas Hall first, the building where the Transmutation Club was. Here, Verl grabbed the pulse generator that Aether had made.
“Is it finished...?”
[SYSTEM : ‘EMP Generator (Advanced)’ is a finished item.]“Good.”
Thank god that he at least had help from the Status Window.
The rain was growing thicker. Verl quickly put an enchantnt on the pulse generator and himself.
[Legendary item ─ Ironproof Potion]A valuable item with a duration of about thirty minutes. It was a concoction produced through all the strange encounters he could find.
While this was active, he wouldn’t ironize even if the steam touched him. In other words, it was a recomnded item for defeating the boss that appeared during the ‘Steam Rain’ trial.
After this....
Whoosh! Verl jumped down from the third floor holding the EMP generator.
He adjusted the speed of his fall with Air Magic and landed in the bushes. The surrounding plants that had been hit with the Steam Rain had changed like they’d been sprayed with defoliant.
Blanton’s brainwashing is easy to break.
When he had dropped out with the chairman’s permission.
He didn’t just stay hidden. Rather, he predicted this would happen and kept moving about.
And so he had planted five totems around the Academy in advance. They were the vertex of the ‘reverse circle’ that could undo the spell Blanton casted.
In order to activate these circles, one had to imbue mana into the part that was equidistant from the five totems.
In other words–
The place to activate the reverse circle was the center of the Academy. He had to strike the core that was there to break the mind control.
But there was sothing that had to be done before that....
Verl looked up at the giant turtle floating in the sky.
We have to deal with that turtle bastard first.
The last of the Great Nine chas, Vanta Tortoise.
He may be called the last, but one shouldn’t ever let down their guard against it.
In terms of just the armor thickness, it rivals Jǫr.
With the exception of the Four Heavens who were the early mbers of the Demon Army, Vanta Tortoise had the toughest armor.
A turtle that gave up agility, attack, magic sensitivity, intelligence, and poured everything into defense.
The movent pattern of one like that was simple.
Walk, make rain fall, turn people into Beasts with that rain and move forward. Every once in a while, it would chew on and spit out a human in front of it like they were a sea squirt.
Then when another Beast took over, its role was over. Really, it was a weapon for sheer destruction.
Grind, Verl clenched his teeth.
If only I had been a little stronger.
He would’ve been able to subdue it early on without help.
It tore him up that all he could do was decide and focus. Anger boiled, and his insides burned like he’d swallowed hot scalding soup.
It was anger at not being able to trust his own abilities.
However.
I’m not alone.
Pzzzzttt! Lightning sparked. A spear of lightning the color of sodium struck the turtle’s chin.
Baaang! The rain montarily stopped due to the vacuum wave. Verl looked in the direction where Vanta Tortoise was while standing in the wind.
Tortoise’s body was tilting backwards. It flailed its front legs and regained balance. Boom! The body shook; it was an earthquake.
Vanta Tortoise turned its head. The thing that had been charging just fine hesitated for the first ti. It realized that it had been hit by ‘sothing’.
[Interdiate Elec Magic ─ Electric Spear]
“Yeah!”
Verl ran towards the square with his face full of joy.
**Pzzt! Pzzzzt!
There was static on my hands. This one closed the hardcover and frowned.
“It’s not powerful enough.”
Ideal was different from reality. The armor of Vanta Tortoise was harder than I’d imagined.
This was all the magic I could use at the mont that was for the Golden-Eyed. To use anything higher-level, I had to give more of my body over to ‘Aether’.
I looked everywhere I could see. There were lots of elves, but Verl was still nowhere to be found.
Booom!
The thing that had been hesitant started to move again. I felt the blood drain from my head.
[You have exceeded the amount of mana that is available in the hardcover.]It was the penalty of using magic that was out of my league.
No, the penalty that the Goddess had given to our whole race, I should say.
Shwaaaaaa!
The thing that had been montarily stunned resud advancing. People were scrambling to run away in panic, but where to? There was nowhere to run to except for the corridors.
I opened the hand that had been touched by the rain. It was fine, aning it hadn’t turned silver.
Shwaaaaaaa!
The rain was just pouring now. Fog, heavy rain... it was difficult to see.
The only one who could move freely in and out of the eaves in this thick rain was .
Bruuuuuuu.
A ti when every second counted.
I had to take down that fucker. No matter what it cost.
I pulled out the caliper and stepped forward, but then Miss Heerlein lowered her own staff and blocked .
“...Don’t do anything reckless and stay put. I’ll do sothing with ranged attacks.”
Heerlein raised her staff, preparing to defend against the approaching monsters. The other mages snapped out of it and followed suit, getting ready to intercept.
“Two files! Water and Earth, keep the closer Beasts back from the front line! Fire and Air specialists retreat to the back and prepare for long-range fire!”
Shk, shk, shk!
“N-no, don’t!”
“That’s my girl! Don’t attack!”
The people in the corridors were divided into two groups.
Those who accepted reality and got ready to attack, and those still scrambling without grasping the situation.
Most of the latter were regular people–civilians who had settled in the capital and weren’t part of the Academy.
This was how much the attitude of soldiers and civilians toward battle differed. The forr had resolute eyes, while the latter shook with fear.
And it was the sa for the freshn who hadn’t been attending the Academy for long.
“Wh-what in the world is going on.......”
Freyr trembled. There was no other way to calm her besides hold her tight and stroke her head.
“Freyr, you trust , right?”
Maroon eyes flickering like a candle in the wind locked with mine. Freyr panted, trying to regulate her breathing.
“Wh-what are you going to do!”
“You trust , yeah?”
“T-trust you, what do you an...?”
“Can you trust as a friend no matter what happens to , whatever I do from now on.”
Freyr blinked like she didn’t understand what I ant. I left her in the care of Erika’s group.
“Miss, I’ll be right back.”
“What? No! I told you to stay here!”
“rilda, co with .”
“I’m sorry? Wh-why?”
There wasn’t ti to explain. I lightly grasped rilda’s wrist and pulled her along.
“Hey, Aether! Where are you going! Co back!”
I ignored it and ran. Sharp sounds could be heard from behind .
rilda had a similar question.
“Where are you headed!”
“The museum.”
“Where the Lodestone is being kept?”
“Yeah.”
To be specific, the third floor with the ‘Inner Mirror’ was the destination.
“But why did it have to be ?”
“Erika’s hurt, and that High Elf Jarod or whatshisface is an asshole.”
Taking deep breaths, I ran up the stairs three, four at a ti.
Shwp!
We finally reached the mirror.
“This is a gamble, seriously.”
Like last ti, a girl was reflected in the mirror–a white-haired girl like my younger twin Akasha.
‘I’ smiled in the mirror. I also smiled with my brows furrowed.
“rilda, if I suddenly seem like so crazy ass bitch, then go to Rol, stat.”
“Huh? What? Why?”
“Don’t argue and go tell him. That it was brief, but fun.”
While rilda asked what that ant–
I reached both hands towards the mirror.
Then in the next mont–
With what felt like a tong, I was flung backwards.
It was as if the sa poles of a magnet had been held together and then pushed away. I tried to maintain my balance but ended up falling to the ground.
“Excuse , are you alright?”
rilda helped up the fallen form. After staggering for a bit, the girl sighed ‘huu’, her eyes cold.
Aether held her head and stood up.
“......Fuck’s sake.”
Her eyes were troubled.
