We were in the holding cells with Katherine, and I was separated again in different facilities, n’s and won’s detention.

I sat alone on the cold concrete, the fluorescent lights buzzing constantly, and I was afraid.

Not for myself, but for Katherine and our kids.

So of the other inmates were curious. "You’re that Marvin guy, the rich investor. What you in for?"

"Embezzlent and fraud. Things I didn’t do."

"Everyone in here’s innocent, man. Everyone says that until proven guilty."

But I was innocent... we were. Anyway, it didn’t matter, though, since the evidence said otherwise.

By morning, we were in court for our bail hearing. Katherine and I were reunited briefly, both of us in orange jumpsuits and handcuffed.

Our eyes t across the courtroom, and I could see she looked exhausted and scared but determined.

The prosecutor stood. "Your Honor, the defendants embezzled $50 million from investors. They are considered to be substantial flight risks with international connections. We request that bail be denied."

Larry Higgins objected imdiately. "My clients are victims of an elaborate fra job, and the evidence is fabricated. They have three minor children, strong community ties, and no flight risk whatsoever."

The prosecutor presented evidence, including bank records, emails, and wire transfers. All of them are showing systematic theft over months.

"This is completely fake!" Katherine shouted, not able to control herself. "Maxwell Pierson created all of these!"

The Judge was stern. "Ms. Marvin, control yourself in my courtroom."

"He attacked our ho! Our children were there, and now he’s framing us for his cris!" She continued.

The judge banged the gavel. "Bail denied. Defendants to be held pending trial, and trial date set for six months from today."

Wow! Six months in jail. That’s being away from our kids; Rose, Hector, and Thomas would keep growing without us being there as parents.

Bella and Susan took temporary custody as legal guardians, but CPS imdiately began an investigation.

The Social worker questioned us. "Are the children genuinely safe with extended family mbers?"

"Yes! Bella’s my half-sister, and Susan’s my wife’s best friend since high school. They’re family."

"Parents are accused criminals where a violent ho invasion occurred. Your children were directly exposed to severe trauma. We’re extrely concerned about their well-being."

This was a threat implicit: remove children from family entirely, place them in foster care, and separate them.

Rose from Hector from Thomas to be taken to three different hos, lost, separated, and alone.

"You can’t do that. They need each other, and they need family support."

"We’ll evaluate the situation thoroughly and decide what’s objectively best for the children."

Maxwell gave a press conference thereafter; this was the perfect victim act.

"I trusted the Marvins completely, but they stole from . From all our investors, and now I’m devastated by this betrayal."

The dia believed every word, and public opinion turned viciously. "Marvin’s family is criminals again."

Social dia exploded with different post tags: #MarvinsScam #AlwaysCriminals #FamilyCurse #OnceACriminal.

This was everything we had built: our reputation, ethics, legitimacy, and hard-won trust all destroyed again.

And Maxwell was free, Volkov was hidden internationally. The real criminals went unpunished while the victims were imprisoned.

Larry worked frantically, pro bono, exhausting himself.

"We need to prove that the evidence is fabricated. We need digital forensics experts to trace docunts back to Maxwell directly."

"How long will that take?" I asked.

"It would take months minimum, maybe longer, but it’s very expensive. Your assets are frozen, and you can’t pay expert witnesses." Larry said.

"So we’re completely trapped. We can’t prove innocence, can’t afford a proper defense, or even see our kids."

"I’m working pro bono, and so are the forensic experts I trust personally. But Tony, this is really bad.

"Can we really win this?" I inquired, the fear evident in my voice.

He paused for a while, and the silence was heavy. "I honestly don’t know. Maxwell’s fra job is excellent, sophisticated, and almost perfect."

I visited Katherine in jail, and the glass partition separated us as we spoke on the phone. I couldn’t touch her.

"Rose asked for yesterday. She’s having nightmares constantly, and I can’t comfort her." She said worriedly.

"Bella’s there with them. She’s good with the kids."

"She’s not their mother, I am. They need specifically."

"We’ll get through this sohow," I said, trying to reassure her.

"Will we? Every single ti we win, a new enemy erges. It’s either a new threat or new destruction. Maybe the universe wants us destroyed, or probably we deserve this."

"Don’t say that. We didn’t do any of this. Maxwell did."

"But we trusted him. We signed the partnership agreent and let him infiltrate our lives."

"We needed capital desperately, you know that. We actually had no realistic choice."

"There’s always a choice, and we made the wrong one. Now, our kids pay the price for our mistakes."

Bella brought the kids to visit at the jail. Special permission was granted for a brief supervised visit.

Rose cried hysterically. "Mama! Dada! Co ho now!"

"We can’t, baby. Not yet, but very soon." I told her.

"I want to go ho! I want my room! I want you both!"

It was heartbreaking and devastating. The worst mont of parenthood imaginable.

Hector was mature beyond his years, trying to console us. "We’re being strong like you taught us. We’re surviving together."

"I’m so proud of you, Hector. Taking care of Rose and Thomas." I said to him.

"When are you coming ho?" He asked.

"Soon. We hope soon." I answered him.

Thomas was too young to understand anything; he just reached desperately for Katherine through the glass, and she cried all through, not uttering a word.

Luca investigated independently, tracking Maxwell and Volkov, and was finding hidden connections.

He discovered critical information about Maxwell’s true identity. He had stolen an identity years ago.

His real na was Alexei Petrov, a Russian intelligence operative who had been deep cover with years of preparation.

"He’s been planning this operation for years, even before we even t him," Luca told when he called.

"Why specifically target us?" I asked.

"It’s their revenge for dismantling Russian money laundering through Thomas’s old criminal network. You destroyed their operations completely. Now, they want payback."

"This is about my father? About Thomas, that’s ancient history."

"To them, it’s recent history. There were billions lost and people imprisoned. Now that Thomas is dead, you’re blad directly. This is just their retribution."

Timothy visited , torn and conflicted. "I believe you’re completely innocent, but I can’t help officially."

"Why not?" I inquired.

"The FBI investigated thoroughly, and the evidence discovered overwhelmingly points to guilt. My superiors genuinely think you’re criminals."

"But you know better, Tim. You know us."

"I do, but I have no concrete proof. It’s just my belief and faith in you guys. That’s not enough legally."

"So you’re abandoning us?" I admonished.

"I’m working unofficial channels. It’s quiet and careful, but I risk my career, Tony. I can’t risk my family and everything I’ve built."

"We risked everything for you during Ashford. Now you abandon us?"

"I’m not abandoning you. I’m being cautious and strategic. I’ll help however I can, but just... carefully."

Bella sold her house and liquidated all her assets to pay the mounting legal fees.

"You can’t do this. That’s your ho. It’s your financial security." I admonished her.

"You’re family. You accepted as your blood, even though you had never t before. This is our father’s cris destroying our lives. Now, I return the favor."

"This could bankrupt you," I said, trying to make her see reason.

"Money rebuilds eventually, but family doesn’t. You, Katherine, and the kids are my family and are worth everything I have."

Jas supported her completely. "I agree. We will use all our resources... whatever it takes."

Susan and Jesse took the kids full-ti, adjusting their lives and delaying their cherished baby plans.

"We were going to start IVF next month, but Rose, Hector, and Thomas desperately need us now. Our family cos first."

"Susan, you’ve wanted a baby for so long-" I said when they ca to visit in jail.

"I have three children temporarily, and they need stability. I can provide love and security, baby plans can wait."

Jesse agreed. "We’re family now, and we do what family does. We show up when needed."

By the third week in jail, I had almost broken down completely. I felt alone and cried uncontrollably.

Everything I had fought for, everything I built and everything I protected... all gone.

My family’s criminal legacy, which was destroyed completely and rebuilt with legitimacy, now lost instantly.

My wife, kids, our freedom, and future were all taken... by a Russian operative disguised as an Arican investor.

"I failed. I failed everyone who trusted ."

A cellmate observed and spoke out. "You got family fighting for you? Lawyers working and people believing in you?"

"Yes."

"Then you didn’t fail at all. You’re still fighting, and that’s what matters."

By the fourth month in jail, our trial was approaching rapidly, and the evidence against us was still overwhelming.

Then Luca visited, seemingly excited and sounding almost frantic. "I finally found him. I found Maxwell, I an, his real na is obviously Alexei Petrov. But his location has been confird."

"Where is he?" I asked.

"Moscow. You know it’s the Russian Federation, so he’s untouchable. We can’t extradite him legally or arrest him. Their governnt protects him."

"So he wins. He destroys us completely and lives free in Russia." I said angrily.

"Maybe not. I have contacts. People who hate the Russian governnt and who’d love to expose their operatives and embarrass them internationally."

"So, what exactly are you suggesting?" I asked carefully.

"We kidnap Petrov from Moscow, bring him back, and force him to confess to clear your nas."

"That’s insane and illegal. This is an international incident and could practically be an act of war."

"It’s also the only way to prove your innocence. This is the only way to get your family back."

"If we get caught-"

"We won’t." Luca continued. "I have a team of professionals, and so are Russians who defected. They know the terrain intimately and know how to operate covertly."

I visited Katherine through the glass partition to propose the insane plan.

"Katherine?"

"I’m in. Whatever it takes, I don’t care. I want my children back."

"Then we plan carefully and execute perfectly. We bring Alexei Petrov back to Arica... in chains."

It’s an impossible mission, a suicide operation? Yes, but it’s our only chance and hope.

Break out of jail? No.

Break Petrov out of Russia or die trying.

Because Marvin’s fight always... and we don’t lose.
