But Like... Why?

As soon as Mike was done with his gauntlets, he went to look for armor.

However, he quickly found out that, compared to weapons, the armor had far less variety, but that wasn’t exactly a bad thing.

The armor ca in three types. Heavy, dium, and Light.

As the nas imply, the different types of armor have different armor values and weights. The heavy armor being the heaviest with the best defense, and light armor being the lightest with the worst defense.

What Mike found interesting, though, was what the armor was made out of.

Nanotechnology.

The armor wasn’t on any stands, but instead, a dark substance moved within a capsule, resembling ferrofluid.

Depending on the armor type, the ’fluid’ within was either thicker or looser. It wasn’t actually fluid, but tens of thousands of small nanites moving around.

Mike watched his fellow students and saw that when they picked their preferred armor type, they would open the capsule and reach in. As soon as they did, the nanites would imdiately crawl onto them and form above their body into a full set of armor, with even a helt of energy forming around their heads.

It was both interesting to see the nanites move as well as cool.

After so deliberation, Mike chose the dium armor.

He’d initially wanted to choose the light armor as he was confident in his defenses, but ended up choosing against it just to be safe.

He opened the capsule, and sure enough, as soon as he reached in, the nanites crawled up his arm and started to settle over his body.

The sensation was weird and a bit ticklish, but it only took a few seconds before his entire body was covered.

As soon as the energy helt ford over his head, he was surprised when a HUD appeared in front of his eyes.

On one side of his vision was a small holographic image of a body, which he assud was his, that spoke about armor integrity as well as his vitals. Another part was a targeting system, and there were a swatted of other features.

He moved around and was surprised by how easy movent was, but when he focused on the armor as he moved, he saw that the nanites would shift to make way for his movents without losing any integrity during the process.

He also noticed that the nanites didn’t cover his gauntlets as they sohow seed to know that defending that area wasn’t needed, so the extra nanites were just shifting around his body, waiting to reinforce anywhere that might take damage.

Just the armor and the gauntlets made Mike imnsely satisfied. However, he still had three more items to select, so after marveling for a bit, he went to look around for anything else he could use.

***

’These should be good.’

Mike thought as he stared at the three items before him.

There was a ring, a flask bottle, and a bundle of thin wires.

Looking at the three items with a satisfied look on his face, Mike nodded to himself.

[Spatial Ring]

A ring with an expanded space within it. A space of up to 10×10 ters is within. Living things cannot be stored inside, and whatever is placed inside is preserved indefinitely.

[Magnus Flask]

A flask that can automatically filter and store several hundred liters of water without increasing its weight.

[Expansive Wire]

A durable tal wire that can stretch to up to 200 ters without losing its integrity.

Each item was simple but extrely useful.

Compared to others, Mike was soone who had experienced the dangers of the wild, even if beasts weren’t involved, and to him, he valued practicality and usefulness over power or flashiness.

To him, his body was durable enough to handle most harsh conditions, which is why he didn’t grab things like a tent or things ant for comfort.

The ring would be useful for obvious reasons, but the reason that appealed to him the most was that if je wanted, he could store the corpses of slain beasts and eat them sowhere else in peace.

The flask was as simple as it was useful. Mike wasn’t sure if the place they would be dropped would have ample water, and while he was confident he could solve the food problem by eating beasts, he wasn’t so sure about water.

As for the string, well, Mike had a few ideas for that.

Another thing Mike noticed was that there was a bit of a loophole in their equipnt selecting process which he sadly couldn’t exploit.

Joseoh said they could only take a maximum of 5 items from the warehouse. However, he never said they couldn’t bring their own stuff.

So people already had items or weapons they used regularly that wasn’t from this place. Hence, they could stack up 5 more items on top of whatever they already had.

For instance, he already saw people with spatial items, custom-made weapons and armor, and the like.

However, he wasn’t too bothered.

’If all goes well, I should be able to make enough credits to make equipnt for myself when I get back.’ Mike thought with a slight smile. However, that smile faded a mont later.

’They aren’t even trying to hide it.’ He thought with so annoyance as he could feel a few hostile gazes on his back, but the most prominent were two familiar ones.

Namor and Agnes.

’No doubt about it, they are going to try sothing on Naraka.’ He thought as he walked around. He’d finally realized where that feeling of unease he’d gotten so ti ago ca from.

They were up to sothing.

’Heh. Cute, you couldn’t do anything to here, so you are waiting for us to be in an environnt where we won’t be observed as intently. Isn’t that just pathetic?’ He shook his head.

If they ca at him, he would make sure they regretted it.

"Alright. It seems like all of you are ready." Joseph said as he stared at the students who all stood outside the warehouse.

"With that done, I suppose it’s ti you lot set off." He then gestured to a large spacecraft behind him.

The thing was about 600 ters long and 150 ters thick. It had a lot more armor compared to a lot of the other ships around as well as decent weaponry.

"This is what you guys will be traveling on. Now, fortunately, I won’t be traveling with you lot as I am busy. Instead, Beatrice here will be the one supervising the entire operation along with." Joseph said and pointed at Beatrice who jad arrived at so point, looking unamused.

"... Wait, sir, did you say ’fortunately’, you won’t be traveling with us?" Soone noted in inconsistency with his statent.

However, instead of backtracking, Joseph scoffed.

"Of course I did. Do you think I have the energy to babysit you? Definitely not. You arrogant brats ar e annoying." He said dismissively, which certainly ruffled a few feathers, but no one could refute his words due to not wanting to die.

"Now then, when you enter, Beatrice will give you a proper briefing on what you are ant to do and the rules of this excursion. Now, I’ve said my piece. Bye~." And with that, Joseph was gone.

Mike saw the faintest twitch in Beatrice’s eye, but it was gone as quickly as it ca.

"Follow , everyone." She said simply and turned to walk into the ship.

Everyone followed suit.

A large escalator led the students into the hull of the ship, and they were imdiately greeted by a large hallway filled with bots and humming electronics.

"The bots will escort you all to your rooms. In an hour, we will have a virtual briefing from there, so go and make yourselves at ho. The journey to Naraka will take approximately 3 days." With that, she went away.

"Three days? Naraka must be pretty far, huh?" Mike asked while rubbing his chin.

"Yeah, it’s tens of thousands of light years away from here. In fact, 3 days is pretty fast, all things considered." Theresa explained.

In that mont, several bots ca to each student and started escorting them to their rooms.

Mike waved Kris and Theresa goodbye before following a bit to his room.

Once he arrived, he took in the scene and tilted his head.

’This is literally my room.’ He blinked.

No, he didn’t an that the room resembled his dorm room. It was literally his room.

Heck, he could still sll his scent on the bed and the various other items inside.

It wasn’t just the furniture either. The walls, his training room, and bathroom, it was exactly the sa.

The image of a bunch of workers or bots pulling out his entire room from his dorm entered his mind, and Mike had a weird expression on his face.

’... But like... why?’ He couldn’t fathom the purpose of just ripping out his entire room. Did the ship not have rooms already? That couldn’t make sense, this one was at least a few dozen million credits!

’Actually, you know what? I’m not gonna question it.’ He shook his head and locked the door before flopping onto his bed.
