Chapter 44: Chapter 40: The Porter of Life

Zorn was bare-handed.

But in the struggle between the two, Zorn held a clear advantage.

His fists, seemingly forged from steel, moved with incredible speed.

He landed several consecutive punches on the Nightmare Rat King’s head.

For a mont, he had the Nightmare Rat King in a steady retreat.

The endlessly roaring Nightmare Rat King raised its upper limbs, quickly assuming a defensive stance.

But the montum of Zorn’s assault didn’t wane in the slightest; in fact, it grew even more ferocious.

He even managed to back the Rat King into a corner.

An SS-Level Star Trace Fighter.

On top of that, he possessed the template and Life Tenacity of a World-level boss.

His stats were completely maxed out.

Combined with Zorn’s Experience and combat prowess, facing a re Level Two boss, it was only natural for him to have the absolute upper hand.

As Zorn began to put more force into his attacks...

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

...each falling punch made the Nightmare Rat King feel as if it were being battered by colossal waves.

ROAR! ROAR!

The furious Nightmare Rat King endured the damage and unleashed "Night’s Bane Claw."

A cold, black light radiated from its sharp claws.

When used, it was like a whirlwind, tearing through the very air.

Faced with a boss monster unleashing a boss Skill, a normal Fighting Master would obviously have to evade.

But Zorn was completely unafraid.

Under the enhancent of his SS-Level Talent, "Gangyi Iron Bone," Zorn’s arms already possessed extrely high Defense.

Infusing them with a small amount of Gang Qi made his arms as tough as iron armor.

Zorn’s fists carried a savage montum, as if intending to tear the creature’s head apart.

He t the boss’s Skill, Night’s Bane Claw, in a bloody collision.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

In the exchange between man and rat, one could faintly see a shower of sparks erupting.

The ear-piercing sound of grinding steel rose and fell continuously.

Even as blood constantly spurted forth, it was as if those arms didn’t belong to Zorn at all.

He unleashed his fighting Skills with all his might, completely imrsed in the combat.

Though covered in wounds, the Fighting Master pressed ever forward.

Zorn could feel a wondrous sensation spreading through him.

He could also sense that the boxing techniques he executed with his fists seed to be undergoing so subtle change.

As a veteran who had leveled up countless tis, Zorn knew very well that he was about to level up.

It was common for a Fighting Master to level up in a life-or-death battle.

Right now, this Level Two Nightmare Rat King was both Zorn’s stepping stone and the catalyst for his advancent.

After withstanding a burst from the Nightmare Rat King’s boss Skill, Zorn’s sleeves were shredded to tatters, and his arms were covered in so many bloody gashes they looked like they were made of blood.

His injuries looked severe, and in truth, they were not light at all.

After that high-intensity battle, Zorn had gotten what he needed.

He wasn’t going to waste any more ti.

The Rat Plague was raging outside.

If those Nightmare Ratn charged up, it would be troubleso.

The battle Joliya was fighting downstairs didn’t seem to be going well.

BOOM!

As Zorn landed another punch on the Nightmare Rat King’s head, he activated his Evil Spirit Authority.

He had already mobilized his Evil Energy, preparing the power of his Authority to form a Spiritual Steel Needle.

He sent it piercing toward the Nightmare Rat King’s soul.

The Nightmare Rat King was slightly astonished that the human had blocked a full barrage of "Night’s Bane Claw."

After taking another of the human’s punches, the Nightmare Rat King decided to gather its power for its boss-level Forbidden Technique.

It wanted to finish off this damned human in one fell swoop.

But just as it began to channel its innate Forbidden Technique...

HISSSSSS...

...the Nightmare Rat King let out a sudden, sharp shriek.

The Forbidden Technique it had just initiated was interrupted by Zorn’s Evil Spirit Authority.

Its Dark Magical Energy surged violently within its body.

The backlash sent its body into convulsions, making it difficult to control.

Thick, crimson blood gushed from the corners of its mouth.

Deep within its small, blood-red eyes, an emotion of fear appeared.

It knew very well that its Forbidden Technique was powerful and couldn’t be interrupted by ordinary ans.

And yet, this weak human had interrupted it.

’This... How is this possible?’

"Scared now?"

Zorn let out a low, savage laugh.

"Too bad, it’s too late. I’ve prepared the most perfect gift for you."

The next mont!

SHLICK! SHLICK!

An excruciating pain pierced the Nightmare Rat King’s shoulders and, in the sa instant, its soul.

The two serpentine heads of the Double-Ringed Snake shot out from behind it, sinking their fangs firmly into the Nightmare Rat King’s shoulders.

Zorn had tossed the finger into the corner earlier precisely to set up a pincer attack on the Rat King.

It seed the effect was outstanding.

The Forbidden Sealed Object, the Ring of the Two Serpents, possessed a natural advantage against rodent-type creatures.

Life Absorption.

At the sa ti, Zorn unleashed the powerful Ability of an Evil Spirit Wizard boss.

GURGLE GURGLE GURGLE...

Not only was its Life Force being rapidly drained, but even its soul and Sequence Spirituality were being extracted by Zorn.

"No... No..."

The Nightmare Rat King’s small eyes spun wildly as it tried desperately to mobilize its Dark Magical Energy.

But under the dual suppression of a World-level boss and a Forbidden Sealed Object, how could it possibly struggle free just because it wanted to?

As he continuously drained his opponent’s life, the severe wounds on Zorn’s arms and fists healed and recovered at a visible rate.

The most simple and direct use of Life Absorption was to drain an opponent’s life to restore one’s own.

As long as he wasn’t dead, Zorn could use Life Absorption to rapidly restore his physical body, soul, and Sequence Spirituality.

A World-level boss didn’t just have powerful stats; its chanics were equally formidable.

Before long, Zorn ended the Life Absorption.

With a dull "THUD,"

...the Nightmare Rat King crashed heavily to the ground.

Its body was in a half-desiccated state.

It was dead, but not completely dead.

He dragged the Nightmare Rat King downstairs.

A crimson mist of blood filled the air, the stench sharp and coppery.

The steps of the staircase were littered with the corpses of nurous mutated gray rats.

Two Nightmare Ratn also lay in pools of blood.

The Rose Witch, Joliya, was sitting on the floor. Her blue and white court dress was in tatters, dyed a bloody blue by the gore.

Under the afternoon sun,

...the girl and the Calamity Rats, the blood and the wreckage, painted a tragically brutal, heart-pounding scene.

The blood-soaked Witch had completed her mission.

She had stopped the rat swarm from coming upstairs, buying Zorn enough ti to face the Rat King one-on-one.

"Ugh... ugh..."

Joliya propped herself up, trying to speak, but her neck had been bitten through.

Dragging the Nightmare Rat King over to Joliya’s side,

Zorn grabbed her hand.

"You... did very well!"

Zorn said softly.

The next mont, Life Absorption activated.

GURGLE GURGLE GURGLE...

The Life Force and Spiritual Essence he had siphoned from the Nightmare Rat King...

...flowed continuously into Joliya’s body through her hand.

The dying Rose Witch began to recover at an extrely rapid pace.

An Evil Spirit Wizard couldn’t heal wounds or restore life.

However, an Evil Spirit Wizard could transport the life, soul-root, and Spiritual Essence from other living beings.

’I don’t heal. I’m just a transporter of life.’

Soon, Joliya’s injuries had fully recovered.

She looked at Zorn with a mixture of pleasant surprise and bewildernt.

"You... aren’t you a Fighting Master?"

"How can you heal?"

"This kind of healing Witchcraft is a powerful technique only mastered by the Church’s Extraordinary Priests."

Zorn glanced outside before answering.

"This isn’t healing Witchcraft. It’s a gift from the Lord."

"A gift from the Lord!"

Joliya’s heart trembled. She had been prepared to sacrifice her life for the Lord, but instead, the Lord had saved her!

Once again, she had witnessed the Lord’s greatness.

"Don’t just stand there gawking."

Zorn gave the dazed Joliya a light push.

"The Extraordinary Crystal Cores that precipitated from those two Nightmare Ratn are decent Spiritual Materials. They’re a bit contaminated, but they work very well as ritual components."

"You killed them, so they belong to you. We need to leave quickly, soone’s coming."

"Ah... but I don’t have a container for them."

With her Extraordinary Knowledge, Joliya knew that contaminated materials like these couldn’t be touched casually.

"Just wrap them in a piece of your torn clothing."

After gathering their spoils, the two of them quickly departed down the stairs.

Although the Rat King’s pelt was quite valuable,

...this was clearly not the ti to be running away while carrying a Rat King’s corpse.
