However, the more it’s explained, the more this matter seems suspicious.
Marcus’s shoulders slumped, feeling a bit down.
Eleanor Hollis and Hugo Quinn exchanged a glance, both finding it sowhat amusing. It seems the kid truly sees Chloe as a friend, which is good.
"Marcus, you have a friend, we’re happy for you. Co on, let’s go eat sothing."
Eleanor patted his shoulder and said. Marcus was still down but followed behind her.
Just after finishing breakfast, there was a knock on the door outside. The servant opened it to find the person delivering the jellyfish had arrived. The jellyfish hadn’t been delivered earlier due to adjustnts in water temperature and such.
"Wow, it’s jellyfish!!"
Marcus shouted, running over there slowly.
The workers had been there before and were familiar with Marcus, so they greeted him with smiles.
Once many jellyfish were placed inside, that wall instantly beca alive.
The jellyfish were beautiful, each fra was like a wallpaper.
Marcus poked the glass with his finger, then excitedly turned his head.
"Mommy, co take a look."
Eleanor, who had been holding back her excitent, imdiately stood up and walked over upon hearing him.
The two stood in front of the glass, every cell in their bodies clamoring with joy.
Hugo watched their backs, a smile curling at his lips. Perhaps happiness is really this simple.
After breakfast, the three rarely snuggled together to watch TV.
The weather grew colder; winter had already arrived.
Marcus sneezed, sitting beside them, and pulled out a tissue to wipe his nose.
Eleanor only then noticed he had caught a cold and imdiately went to rummage through the dicine box, finding the cold dicine for him.
Cold dicine usually has side effects, making people drowsy.
So after taking the dicine, Marcus curled up on the sofa and fell asleep.
Hugo bent down to pick him up and placed him in the bedroom upstairs.
In the evening, Chloe called saying she wanted to co over to play.
Eleanor initially wanted to say Marcus was ill, but upon hearing it was Chloe calling, Marcus "sprang" out of bed and grabbed Eleanor’s phone.
The two kids murmured about sothing, and when Eleanor looked over again, Marcus was already washed and grood.
"Mommy, Chloe and her mom are coming over to play at our house."
Eleanor saw his happiness and couldn’t say anything against it, just nodded.
Jane Shaw and Chloe arrived half an hour later, bringing delicious treats for Marcus.
When Marcus saw Chloe, he imdiately reverted to his aloof mode, his nostrils snorting coldly, but everyone could tell he liked Chloe, the aloofness was probably an act, he enjoyed being surrounded by Chloe’s chirping presence.
"Marcus Quinn, your house has this too. So many jellyfish, it’s so pretty."
Chloe suddenly noticed the aquarium. When they visited before, it was empty, but now there are beautiful jellyfish swimming inside.
Marcus instantly puffed up with pride, couldn’t help but snort.
"My dad made it, I told you before, my dad is amazing."
Chloe suddenly gazed at Hugo with a look of admiration, her starry eyes quite adorable.
For a mont, Hugo didn’t know what to say, only managed a low cough.
Jane Shaw saw the interaction between the two and her eyes flickered with aning. She could see Chloe genuinely liked Marcus, if things go sour, both kids would surely be upset.
"Miss Shaw, actually, I’ve been wanting to ask, who’s the child’s father? Although you said the child’s father passed away, last ti I saw Chloe’s reaction, I feel there’s more to the story."
Eleanor finally couldn’t help but ask because sotis she looks at Chloe and Hugo and genuinely feels they look more alike. It’s hard not to feel uneasy.
Jane Shaw’s hands fidgeted in front of her, then slowly lowered her gaze.
"He didn’t really die, it’s just I don’t know where the kid’s father is."
She thought if the truth were revealed, she’d never be able to face anyone in the future, so she remained elusive.
Eleanor nodded, automatically imagining a story of an irresponsible scumbag abandoning the mother and daughter, couldn’t help sighing.
The two kids already went to play around the villa, even though they were just standing there watching the jellyfish.
Eleanor’s brows furrowed, it was very cold outside, Marcus had caught a cold, if it worsens, what should be done?
"I’ll go bring the kids back."
She said, stood up, and slowly walked outside.
In a blink, only Hugo and Jane Shaw were left in the living room, neither of them spoke.
Hugo had always had a cold personality, which only seed to thaw in the presence of Eleanor.
And Jane Shaw didn’t know how to begin, although she wanted a chance to be alone with Hugo, when the opportunity ca, she seed to lose her voice.
Not long after, Eleanor returned with Marcus, who had an injury on his forehead.
Marcus’s forehead was bleeding, while Chloe stood aside, tears brimming in her eyes.
"I’m sorry, Marcus Quinn, it’s all because of ."
Just now she saw the flowers blooming beautifully over there and wanted to pick them, but didn’t see the path beneath her feet. When she fell, Marcus held her; she wasn’t hurt, but Marcus’s head hit the stone.
The wound wasn’t deep, but the blood flow looked pretty frightening.
Hugo imdiately fetched the dicine box, found sothing to stop the bleeding, applied dicine, then covered it with a band-aid.
"Be more careful next ti, it’ll be ugly if it leaves a scar."
Eleanor said with concern, using a wet tissue to clean the surrounding blood.
Marcus was still laughing, not feeling any pain.
"Mommy, I’m a man, it doesn’t matter if a man has scars."
Chloe watched from the side, teary-eyed, her lips trembled, seed about to cry.
"Why are you crying, don’t cry, you look ugly when you cry."
Clearly wanting to comfort her, but the words Marcus said still sounded like disdain, perhaps this was their way of interacting.
Chloe burst into tears.
"I’m sorry, I won’t pick flowers next ti."
Eleanor stood beside her, comforting her with a pat on the shoulder.
No one blad her, but she felt bad inside.
Jane Shaw watched the affection between the two kids, her eyes grew deeper. Previously, she had Chloe help her out, but Chloe is, after all, a child, and easily grows fond of soone.
Now it seems Chloe had truly started caring about Marcus, which isn’t a good sign.
She gently placed her hand on Chloe’s head, softly ruffling it.
"Don’t cry, rember to bring Marcus more snacks at school next ti, he’ll be very happy."
Chloe finally wiped her tears and grabbed Marcus’s hand.
