Both Blood Clan mbers started sweating.

After a brief standoff, the Black-cloth Blood Clan gritted his teeth and said, "Think what you will, but hand over the item to us. Let’s end this."

He reached out a hand.

"Do you think I’m afraid of you?" Jones took a deep breath, his lips curling into a slight smile.

This smile made the two Black-robed Blood Clan mbers, who initially had the upper hand, hesitate and grow fearful.

"Hey, Adolf!" Jones suddenly shouted with wide eyes.

The Flower-cloth Blood Clan swiftly turned around.

As he turned, Jones bolted in the opposite direction with incredible speed.

The Black-cloth Blood Clan, not falling for the trick, imdiately revealed his claws, preparing to fight.

However, just as Jones was within arm’s length, he suddenly reached for the cloth covering the Black-cloth Blood Clan’s face.

The Black-cloth Blood Clan’s eyes widened in realization.

"Ow!" Perhaps out of unease, the Black-cloth Blood Clan quickly retracted his claws, trying to protect the cloth concealing his face.

This defensive move revealed an opening. Instead of attacking, Jones took advantage of it to transform into a bat and dart past the Black-cloth Blood Clan’s side.

The Black-cloth Blood Clan quickly spun around and also transford into a bat to chase after him.

Everything happened in an instant. By the ti the Flower-cloth Blood Clan turned around, he was alone in the alley, feeling sowhat disoriented.

...

"He got away! What good are you two idiots?"

"Quick! Pursue him! Everyone, move out!"

"Which direction should we chase? He’s already gone!"

"Find him! Do I need to tell you how to search? You two, get up in the air! You two, scout the ground!"

A loud commotion ensued as four Blood Clan mbers ran past, searching both streets and alleys.

Inside a mailbox on the street, Jones, still in bat form, poked his head out for a quick look before retracting it. Sitting among a pile of mail, Jones glanced at the envelope clutched between his legs.

*Who are these guys? They’re so stupid; whoever sent them must be no better. Did Adolf offend an idiot?*

...

"Found him yet?"

"No."

"We checked over there, still nothing!"

"You two go that way! I’ll go this way! You stay here! You fly up, keep an overview!"

"Yes!"

"Alright!"

A group of Blood Clan mbers continued to mill around outside the mailbox, with one even standing right next to it.

*If it weren’t for experiencing their lack of wits firsthand, I would have thought they discovered .*

"Seems I won’t be getting out anyti soon." With a sigh of resignation, Jones glanced around.

In this small space, it wasn’t too cramped for a bat.

Below lay a pile of letters, and to the side was an opening just big enough for Jones to poke his head out. A faint glow of firelight stread in, casting the mailbox in a dark red hue.

"It’s a safe spot. Maybe I should take a look here. See what’s inside that has them so on edge."

Being late at night, there was naturally no sunlight, with the firelight from the street far too dim due to the distance. Fortunately, Jones was a Blood Clan mber. Blood Clan had keen night vision.

Quickly, Jones used his bat legs to tear open the envelope and stared at its contents, stunned.

...

"Are you nuts? You actually attacked Jones!" Adelle slamd the table hard and stood up abruptly.

The butler stamred, "Young Master, this matter must be resolved quickly. Otherwise, it will soon reach the master, possibly even the family head. You are about to co of age, this could be very detrintal to you. They’re insane, demanding we hand him over."

"You knew they wanted to harm Jones?"

"No, I didn’t. I just believe they made the right decision. Besides, they were rely trying to steal sothing; they wouldn’t harm Young Master Jones in any case."

Adelle held his forehead as he walked to the window, gazing out at Hilde with a look of disdain.

"Jones is the Lich King’s adopted son, a mber of my brotherhood."

"I understand, Young Master."

Turning back, Adelle said angrily, "I don’t know the status of the Lich King’s adopted son within the Lich King’s faction, but you should be well aware of the trouble that harming him would cause. It’s far worse than losing four anonymous henchn. Do you want to create an even bigger ss before this matter gets resolved?"

"No, they wouldn’t harm Young Master Jones." The butler quickly shook his head and said, "If... I an if, their identities are exposed, we’ll have them admit they acted on their own. Because that’s the truth, isn’t it?"

"So what about that issue? Why not just hand him over directly? You made the call to use outsiders to break into Adolf’s room, not ."

The butler was montarily speechless.

Adelle looked at the butler with disgust.

After a brief silence, the butler cautiously said, "Young Master, they are rely trying to resolve the matter quickly for your benefit."

"If it wasn’t for facing severe punishnt for mismanaging the servants, I would have turned you in already." Adelle sighed helplessly, "Alright, I understand. Prepare the carriage for , I’ve got to go out."

"Where to, Young Master?"

"To et Jones. If there’s no other way, I’ll disclose everything; I haven’t done anything against him. But you better make sure he doesn’t know you guys tried to hurt him. Otherwise, no matter how much I explain, he won’t confide in and reveal what’s in the envelope."

"Rest assured, Young Master. Jones doesn’t know it’s our people."

"It better be so."

...

Inside the mailbox, Jones remained silently, bored and weary.

*One bad thing about the Blood Clan is the lack of any real laws. Being chased in the street, I didn’t even know whom to turn to.*

*The Human World is sowhat the sa. Nobles have their laws, but when applied to commoners, most of those laws fail. Enforcent is entirely up to the lord’s mood. It’s even worse in the Blood Clan. At the bottom ranks, it’s all about who has the stronger fist. Although Jones was a higher-ranking Blood Clan mber, protected by the Elder Council, this area belonged to the lower-tier Blood Clan.*

*Facing trouble here ans hearing: "Justice delayed." Eventually, no one but oneself suffers from it.*

Jones could only wait silently, hoping those people would give up and depart, so he could return. As for how long... Jones wasn’t sure. It entirely depended on the allure of what’s inside that envelope.

So far, the envelope’s contents seed highly enticing.

Suddenly, the door at the bottom of the mailbox swung open.

Startled, Jones quickly shrank upward, clutching the already opened envelope.

A green hand reached in, sweeping out all the mail in one motion. Then with a "click," shut the mailbox door.

"Phew... a mailman? Lucky."

With all the mail cleared from the mailbox, the space felt much more open. Even Jones, now in human form, could stay inside, albeit very cramped.

...

"Make them leave." In a distant carriage, Adelle told the butler, "If Jones is still nearby and sees with guards, he’ll co to , and the situation will be resolved."

"Understood, Young Master."

The butler carefully stepped down from the carriage and discreetly conversed with several Blood Clan mbers at the street corner. They imdiately began to quietly move towards Jones’s location, signaling as they walked.

Those seeking Jones saw the signals and promptly left, one by one.

Soon, Adelle’s carriage passed by the mailbox where Jones was hiding.

Simultaneously, Jones had already stealthily opened a hidden door at the back of the mailbox and slipped out with the envelope in hand.
