"No need, I can go by myself. It’s raining lightly outside; you don’t need to co," Chu Chen said, wrapping his arm around her and kissing her forehead.
"Don’t kick off the covers."
Letting go, he turned and left. Gu Xinuo yawned, scratching her head, suddenly feeling wide awake.
What’s going on with Aqian?
Why does this unstable mood feel so much like a woman’s monthly period?
After thinking it over, she still felt uneasy, reaching for her phone and dialing a number.
She waited a while, but the call went unanswered.
What’s he up to, not picking up the phone. Could he be drunk?
Just as she was about to hang up, soone finally answered on the other end.
"Hello."
"Aqian, aren’t you at the hospital taking care of Asheng? Why are you out drinking? Did you two have another argunt?" Gu Xinuo leaned back; the air conditioning in the room made it sowhat cold, and she pulled the covers over herself.
Ji Mingqian stubbornly insisted, "No."
"Then why are you drinking?" she asked, sensing his hoarse voice, certain that he hadn’t had just a little to drink.
Ji Mingqian replied noncommittally, "I just felt like drinking, there’s no particular reason."
"No, there must be sothing wrong," she said with conviction.
"Really, there’s nothing. I need to hang up," he replied evasively, and Ji Mingqian hastily ended the call.
The fine rain was like silk, a misty haze blurring the night.
The sea breeze brushed his cheeks as Ji Mingqian sat on the sand, rainwater dripping from his hair, tracing the defined contours of his handso face as it fell.
He picked up a can of beer and took several big gulps.
When Chu Chen arrived, the rain had stopped. Seeing the pile of empty beer cans at his feet gave him a headache.
Drinking and sitting in the rain; this guy must think he has too long a life.
"Ji Mingqian, do you have a death wish?" Chu Chen stepped forward, snatching the beer from his hand and throwing it away.
"What’s the reason for drinking this ti?"
"Do you want so?" Ji Mingqian offered him a new can of beer, asking indifferently.
Chu Chen grabbed the beer, collecting all the cans on the ground into a bag before squatting down beside him, "Who’s upset you this ti?"
Ji Mingqian shook his head, his typically expressionless face showing a rare glimpse of dullness.
"Don’t shake your head, talk to ," Chu Chen frowned, seeing his thoroughly soaked clothes and heaving a sigh of resignation.
He took off his own jacket and draped it over his shoulders, "Did you have another argunt with Yisheng?"
Ji Mingqian still shook his head, covering his face with his hand, his voice muffled, "Let ask you a question. If you suddenly care a lot about soone, can’t stand seeing them close to others, and want to bring them everything they like, does that count as liking them?"
"Obviously," Chu Chen answered without hesitation.
After a pause, Ji Mingqian asked, "Then what if you find yourself liking soone you shouldn’t like, what would you do?"
Chu Chen looked puzzled, "What kind of ’if’ is that? I only like Anuo; how could I possibly like soone else?"
Ji Mingqian, "..."
What a pigheaded thought.
"Wait, Aqian, why are you asking these questions?" Chu Chen belatedly realized sothing was off, his eyes narrowing with suspicion as he looked at him, "Could it be that you’ve fallen for soone?"
Ji Mingqian fell silent, neither confirming nor denying.
Chu Chen frowned, liking soone he shouldn’t?
He hadn’t seen any girl around him that Ji Mingqian could have taken a liking to, who could it be?
Unable to figure it out, Chu Chen pushed him, "Ji Mingqian, stop playing dumb, talk."
Ji Mingqian remained silent, and Chu Chen was nearly driven mad by his behavior.
He had been on edge all day, first arguing with Yisheng and then returning to the hospital to care for him. Now, he was out here again.
Just earlier, he ntioned liking soone he shouldn’t—could it be...
After going around in circles, Chu Chen finally understood.
He was slightly startled, overwheld by shock, and his body beca unsteady as he fell sitting on the beach.
Damn.
Was he overthinking it? It couldn’t possibly be what he was thinking, could it?
After collecting himself, Chu Chen spoke with a hint of caution, "Aqian, are you talking about Yisheng?"
Ji Mingqian remained motionless, not making a sound.
Silence was tacit agreent, and in Chu Chen’s eyes, it was undoubtedly an admission.
No wonder Jiuliang seed like he had gone crazy when he disappeared, so it was like this.
Chu Chen placed a hand on Ji Mingqian’s shoulder and asked in a calm voice, "Aqian, are you serious?"
Once he made the choice, there would be nurous difficulties to face, especially concerning Yisheng’s family.
Ji Mingqian looked up, his dark eyes slightly narrowed, "He told before that there should be boundaries between friends, and I thought he was moody, just playing with , until just now, I realized the fool was ."
He intended to create distance between them, and yet unwittingly, he caused him to fall even deeper, unable to let go. No wonder he would say who he thought he was, by what right could he control him.
"Li Mochan was right, the heartless one is , not Jiang Yisheng," he said with a sarcastic smile.
Chu Chen frowned, watching his pained expression, unsure of how to begin consoling him.
Ji Mingqian turned to look at him, his face filled with confusion, "Achen, what do you think I should do?"
After a mont’s contemplation, Chu Chen said, "That’s a question you should ask yourself, can you let go?"
Their group’s personalities are too similar; once they fall for soone, breaking up becos extrely difficult.
Ji Mingqian shook his head, his thoughts a tangled ss, like an unbreakable knot that only becos more tangled as you try to solve it.
"I don’t know."
During those days when he was kidnapped by Mo Su, the panic he had never felt before, and then, when he was found with injuries all over, he wanted nothing more than to send those who hurt him to hell.
Let go?
He couldn’t even answer that question himself.
Perhaps it was because he couldn’t bear it?
"Aqian, whatever your choice may be, we will all support you," Chu Chen, not good with words and unable to comfort others, patted his shoulder.
"If you really can’t let go, then follow your heart. Don’t wait until it’s too late and live with regrets."
Ji Mingqian gave a bitter smile, "Join for another drink?"
Chu Chen nodded and handed him a can of beer.
"After finishing this can, we should head back."
Ji Mingqian nodded, pulled open the tab, and took a few sips.
Chu Chen let out a soft sigh, watching the tumultuous sea, feeling sowhat heavy-hearted.
He had a premonition; Aqian’s journey of love was bound to be fraught with difficulties.
...
The next day, the weather was clear and bright.
Hearing that Ji Mingqian had gotten drunk, Ye Jiuliang dragged Li Mochan over early in the morning.
At the doorway, they happened to et Gu Xinuo returning with breakfast.
"Ajui, why have you two co so early?" Gu Xinuo said as she opened the door.
Ye Jiuliang asked curiously, "How is Aqian doing?"
"He got caught in the rain and drank quite a bit. Achen just went to check on him in his room, he seems to have a slight fever," Gu Xinuo said helplessly as she entered the house.
Ye Jiuliang was surprised, "A fever?"
Behind him, Li Mochan’s cold eyes deepened as he walked nonchalantly into the living room.
