Jiang Yisheng held the microphone, feeling it inexplicably scalding in his hand.
He looked around with pleading eyes, and Ji Mingqian raised his eyebrows, his lips curved in a schadenfreude-infused smile.
Actually, he also wanted to hear his live singing performance.
"Jiang Yisheng!"
"Jiang Yisheng!"
"Jiang Yisheng!"
A mixture of heckling and applause started to rise.
Unable to dodge any longer, Jiang Yisheng took a sip of juice from his cup.
He pulled a napkin, wiped his mouth, and walked over holding the microphone.
"Jiang, what song are you going to sing? I’ll select it for you," Allen looked at the song-selection machine and asked, turning back.
Jiang Yisheng responded, "Anything is fine."
Suddenly vibrating in his pocket, Ji Mingqian reached for his phone and walked outside.
After the door closed, he picked up the call, and Chu Chen’s voice ca through, "Ji Mingqian, you’re getting arrogant, not even taking calls, when are you rolling back here?"
"Such fury, did you have a fight with Anuo?" Ji Mingqian teased.
Chu Chen put down his pen and pinched the bridge of his nose, "With both you and Ajiu gone, you’ve dumped all the K organization matters on and Anuo, where’s your conscience?"
"The conscience’s not been there since day one, no difference now," Ji Mingqian replied nonchalantly, laughing.
"I’ve been too busy lately to deal with it, you go and pay Matt a visit, quickly nail down the contract," Chu Chen cut to the chase without mincing words.
Ji Mingqian asked, "Why don’t you send Ajiu?"
"Then you go tell her. I don’t care which one of you goes, but one of you must. Otherwise, co back to headquarters to process docunts," Chu Chen said.
Hearing the ntion of coming back to headquarters for paperwork, Ji Mingqian quickly conford to the wind, imdiately responding, "No, no, I was just kidding. I’ll make the trip in the next couple of days."
After hanging up, he turned around and went back to the private room.
As soon as he pushed open the door, a harrowing lody echoed in the room, and Jiang Yisheng’s voice, gentle as a breeze, tingled his ears.
The low, mournful singing carried a raspy edge at the end, "My liking for you has turned into an unrequited longing."
Ji Mingqian felt a jolt in his heart, were these lyrics ant for the person he liked?
The one he had ntioned as no longer being around?
In a daze, the singing abruptly stopped.
What followed was thunderous applause.
Jiang Yisheng put down the microphone, looked up, and saw the figure standing at the door, his eyes losing their deep gleam.
Ji Mingqian walked in, and Allen slung an arm over his shoulder.
"Hey, Mingqian, where have you been? Let’s continue drinking," he said.
Ji Mingqian smiled, "Just took a call."
"Mingqian, to be honest, Jiang sings way better than you," Allen’s girlfriend teased.
Ji Mingqian shrugged, "Isn’t it normal for him to sing better than ? How can professional and amateur be compared?"
Taking advantage of the mont when Allen and the others were laughing and joking, Ji Mingqian slipped back to Jiang Yisheng’s side.
"Aren’t you eating?" Jiang Yisheng asked, looking at the person who had spent the evening drinking and singing, his voice warm.
Ji Mingqian picked up the chopsticks, "Yeah, of course I’m eating. Who said I wasn’t?"
Jiang Yisheng glanced at him and continued quietly drinking his juice.
When the party ended, it was past eleven, and the streets had grown much quieter.
After putting the drunk ones in the car, Allen closed the car door and ca over to Ji Mingqian.
Unable to withstand the urging of many, Jiang Yisheng got drunk after only a couple of drinks.
Ji Mingqian helped him into the car and straightened up, as Allen patted him on the shoulder.
"Hey, Mingqian, that’s rare for you," Allen spoke out of the blue.
Ji Mingqian was confused, "What do you an?"
"It’s rare to see you being so protective over soone," Allen said with a laugh, pointing through the car window at the person inside, who was thoroughly intoxicated.
Ji Mingqian looked puzzled, "Have I?"
