??66: Chapter 66: Won a Ferrari
66: Chapter 66: Won a Ferrari
The serpentine curves of Lianpan Mountain’s racing track saw a black and a silver sports car speeding past the night like streaks of lightning, their engines roaring through the mountainside.
The black GTR led the charge, with the silver rcedes in hot pursuit.
Though shocked, Lv Wuya couldn’t help but admire Lin Fei’s driving skills.
But, after all, he was once a professional racer.
The very word ‘professional’ implies a degree of specialization.
There’s only one letter’s difference between professional and amateur, but the gap in real skill is vast.
Like right now, Lv Wuya, despite being amazed by Lin Fei’s driving, had no intention of admitting defeat.
After all, he was still ahead.
Lv Wuya was convinced that as long as he deliberately blocked Lin Fei’s chance to overtake on the bends, victory would be his, even if Lin Fei’s driving outclassed his.
Having raced on Lianpan Mountain more than once, Lv Wuya knew all too well that in just two more minutes, he’d reach the summit and win the race.
“Such skill, if displayed in an international event, would surely astonish the world.”
As he neared the summit, Lv Wuya glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the silver rcedes stubbornly clinging to the rear of his car, an idea inexplicably flashing through his mind.
But that thought was fleeting.
Lv Wuya understood that if Lin Fei had truly intended to compete, he wouldn’t have waited until now.
With Lin Fei’s driving prowess, he would have already made a na for himself in the racing world and wouldn’t remain so obscure.
Thinking that such a skilled driver as Lin Fei was about to be defeated by him, despite the vast difference between their cars, couldn’t stop a sense of pride from welling up in Lv Wuya’s heart, his lips involuntarily curling into a smirk.
And it was then, through the rearview mirror, that Lv Wuya saw a sight he would never forget.
The silver rcedes that had been right behind the black GTR montarily paused and then, under the moonlight, its gleaming silver body suddenly leapt into the air.
It landed on top of the black GTR, hovering there for a second before launching off like an arrow released from its bow, and with the montum of the dive, sped towards the summit like lightning.
If soone had been standing at the top of Lianpan Mountain, they might have glimpsed this astonishing scene in the moonlight.
Unfortunately, with no one there, the sight lived on only in Lv Wuya’s mory.
…
Atop Lianpan Mountain, Lv Wuya didn’t know how he managed to get out of his car.
In truth, the mont the silver rcedes had vaulted over the GTR, he had been dumbstruck.
It wasn’t until Lin Fei handed him a cigarette that he ca back to his senses.
“Not bad technique, have you raced before?” Lin Fei asked while turning his head with a cigarette hanging from his lips.
After taking a drag, Lv Wuya choked on the smoke and coughed repeatedly, his gaze towards Lin Fei indescribably odd.
Lv Wuya really wanted to ask Lin Fei what he ant by that.
Was it a taunt?
A victor praising the loser’s skill might be comprehensible if their talents were more or less equal, seen as mutual recognition.
But the reality was crystal clear to Lv Wuya.
To him, Lin Fei’s question sounded more like sarcasm.
“I was a professional racer; after the team disbanded, I returned to Zhonghai and started Che Wuya’s Club.
The na implies that the world of racing is boundless,” Lv Wuya answered.
“Today, I truly understand what ‘boundless world of racing’ ans!”
Sarcasm or praise, Lv Wuya didn’t care anymore.
In fact, in his view, being taunted by Lin Fei ant his skills must be sowhat noteworthy; Lin Fei certainly had the right to taunt him.
If Lin Fei knew what Lv Wuya was thinking, he’d probably be kicking him by now.
He had seen shaless, but never this shaless.
Lin Fei simply thought Lv Wuya’s timing in blocking his overtakes on the bends was impeccable, which prompted the question.
Anything sarcastic was far from his mind.
If it weren’t for Lv Wuya repeatedly thwarting him on the bends, leaving Lin Fei with no chance to overtake, he wouldn’t have chosen such a risky thod.
It might look impressive, but this kind of jumping overtake was extrely dangerous and damaging to the car itself.
It was specifically against an experienced old hand like Lv Wuya that Lin Fei chose this thod, as Lv Wuya could well control his car.
Against a rookie like Shao Kai, Lin Fei would never opt for such a maneuver.
The reason was simple.
Soone like Shao Kai didn’t have full control of his car and lacked composure.
If Lin Fei’s car suddenly landed on his, in the ensuing panic, Shao Kai wouldn’t know how to handle it.
Whether he sped up or stopped, both decisions would spell disaster for Lin Fei above.
Choosing how to overtake depends on the opponent.
…
After finishing his cigarette, Lin Fei was ready to leave, but Lv Wuya suddenly knelt before him.
“What are you doing?
You’re all grown up, you can’t still want to play the ‘beco a disciple’ ga, can you?”
Seeing Lv Wuya suddenly kneel down, Lin Fei was surprised and thought that Lv Wuya was awed by his incredible driving skills and wanted to take him as a master.
The reason for this thought was because Lin Fei saw Lv Wuya’s almost obsessive madness for car racing, and Lin Fei was sowhat aware of how shocking his skills would appear to an average person.
However, this ti Lin Fei really got it wrong.
Although Lv Wuya was obsessed with racing and amazed by Lin Fei’s skills, he wasn’t a young kid anymore.
Being thirty, he naturally wouldn’t kneel just because of a mont’s shock.
After all, a man’s knees have gold beneath them; the more mature the man, the deeper the understanding of this saying.
“There’s sothing I’ve been hiding in my heart for 8 years.
Over these 8 years, I’ve cried many tis because I saw no hope in resolving this matter.
Today, I hope you can help , or give
a way to find peace.”
Lv Wuya knelt on both knees, his head held high, tears glimring in his eyes as he looked directly at Lin Fei.
“I suddenly rembered I still have things to be busy with.”
Lin Fei, having a sharp intuition, sensed that whatever Lv Wuya was going to say next probably wasn’t anything good; he prepared to get in the car and leave.
Unfortunately for him, Lv Wuya wasn’t foolish.
Seeing Lin Fei trying to escape, he quickly spoke, “8 years ago, my most respected elder brother, who was also the captain of my previous racing team, died at the hands of soone completely unrelated to our racing world.
I—”
“Alright, get to the point.”
Seeing that Lv Wuya was determined to corner him, Lin Fei gave up on the idea of leaving.
Lin Fei waved his hand to interrupt Lv Wuya’s emotionally charged speech and urged him to get straight to the point.
Lv Wuya was not the type to drag things out and succinctly recounted the events of that year to Lin Fei, detailing his desire to avenge his brother.
“How did your brother’s driving skills compare to yours?”
After Lv Wuya finished, Lin Fei countered with a question.
“Far better than mine.”
Lv Wuya answered without a second thought.
Having enough fa in the international racing scene spoke volus about his driving skills, and Lv Wuya’s confident answer further confird Lin Fei’s judgnt.
“Have you ever considered that, with your brother’s driving skills, even if he faced soone outside your racing field, it wouldn’t have led to both the car’s destruction and his death?
Of course, if your brother had terribly low ntal fortitude, discard what I’ve just said.”
A driver with no ntal strength wouldn’t be able to beco a professional racer, let alone the captain of a racing team.
Lin Fei said this as a veiled reminder to Lv Wuya.
Lv Wuya’s brow furrowed slightly, and he looked at Lin Fei uncertainly, “What are you trying to say?”
“If there’s not a single lie in what you’ve told , soone tampered with your brother’s car.”
“Impossible!
Our team’s cars have always been—impossible, impossible…”
Lv Wuya seed to enter a state of shock, initially denying Lin Fei’s speculation with force, then, as if rembering sothing, he began muttering “impossible” over and over again.
Seeing Lv Wuya’s reaction, Lin Fei discerned the answer in his heart.
The observer sees clearer than the party involved; Lv Wuya was caught up in the midst of it all, fixated only on the Caucasian rcenary and hadn’t thought more deeply.
Lin Fei, on the other hand, considered the entire incident.
Not all rcenaries were of Lin Fei’s caliber, and those who could reach Lin Fei’s level were scarce worldwide.
Lv Wuya’s elder brother, having a certain reputation internationally, wouldn’t have t such an end even if he couldn’t defeat the rcenary.
Even if the Caucasian rcenary had murderous intent, Lv Wuya’s brother wouldn’t have been foolish enough to let himself be hit without dodging.
The only possibility was that Lv Wuya’s brother’s car had been tampered with, forcing him into a situation where he wanted to evade but couldn’t.
“That Caucasian rcenary, you don’t have to think about it anymore.
Those who mix up in the rcenaries’ life, their heads are linked to their belts, he might have already died in so corner.
Even if he’s not dead, there aren’t many who can retire intact from a rcenary career.
So, there’s no need for you to go to great lengths to find him.”
Lin Fei patted Lv Wuya on the shoulder, the subtext of his words clear.
There is a debtor for every grievance; if he wanted revenge, he should look for the person who tampered with his brother’s car.
“Stand up.
You’ve been kneeling here the whole ti.
If I go down now, nobody will believe I won, huh?”
Lin Fei walked up to the silver rcedes sports car, opened the door, and beckoned to Lv Wuya.
It wasn’t for any other reason than the fact that if Lv Wuya didn’t follow him down the mountain, Lin Fei couldn’t take the Ferrari.
After all, he couldn’t just win the race and then forcibly take the car.
Responding to Lin Fei’s call, Lv Wuya slowly stood up, driving the black GTR behind Lin Fei’s car, and they descended the mountain together.
However, what he was thinking in his heart, perhaps only he himself knew.
After descending the mountain, Lv Wuya, despite Shao Kai’s objections, faithfully handed over the Ferrari’s keys to Lin Fei.
To Lv Wuya, Lin Fei’s words were worth more than ten Ferraris.
As for Lin Fei, the trip was not a waste; he drove the Ferrari away and disappeared at the foot of Lianpan Mountain.
