Chapter 17 - Any Old Connection?
Friends? Which friends is he talking about? She was clueless. Turning around, Jennifer saw the usual smirk on his face.
"I don't have any friends here." Was her short reply but then he made it briefer, "I ant friends… in the forest. Your favorite creepy crawlies. Those frogs, snakes.."
The realization struck her mind when she understood the deeper aning behind his words. He was shalessly teasing her because of her fear of the creepy crawlies!
'C'mon Jennifer, who asked you to reveal your fear to this stranger so easily? Here you are now, being teased by a stranger.' She passed him a cold look but he didn't seem to care.
"What? You didn't? I thought that you must be interested to et your dearest friends so you went inside the forest."The loud waves of laughter were heard and this made her mood even sourer.
His words were no less than any sarcastic manner, to make her once again lose her calm. But this ti, all Jennifer did was to look at his face with her narrowed eyes.
When Javier saw her ugly expressions, he coughed and asked, "So, how was your experience on the trail?"
He changed the topic too smoothly but it didn't miss her eyes how he was provoking her. "It was nice. The view under the trees was really good to witness."
"Who doesn't like fresh air to breathe in?" Javier walked to the kitchen and took out sothing from the big refrigerator. Jennifer tried to stand on her toes, to take a look but failed.
Lastly, he kept the glass full of juice in front of her, "Drink it. You must be dehydrated after such a long walk. It will give you energy."
His actions seed to leave her dumbfounded. At so tis he is so rude and aloof that she feels afraid to approach him, whereas sotis she can feel the warmness that his eyes omit.
"Thank you." With her small hands, Jennifer took the glass in her hand and started drinking the juice which he served. But to her surprise, it tastes sowhat different from the rest of the juices she had in her life. "Is there sothing that you added in?"
"Well.." Javier ca and sat on the couch relaxingly. When he noted that she was still looking forward to his answer, he replied, "This juice is made of special oranges from our garden. It must be tasting differently because it has more flavors. Drink it, it is healthy."
"I feel..'' When Jennifer took another sip of it, she definitely knew that it tasted really similar to sothing. "I feel that I have actually tasted it sowhere else as well."
"Impossible! Those oranges especially grow in our backyard and soone else can't know about the specialty of it." Javier instantly declined but no, Jennifer was fully sure about it.
If she has tasted sothing once, she will always rember it and this was the sa ti. She can confidently feel that it tastes like sothing else..
She ca forward and sat opposite him, on the couch as well, and stared at his face with her deep eyes. "I'm telling the truth. When I was in university, I tasted sothing like this. I an, I drank sothing from my friend's bottle."
Just as those words slipped out of her mouth, her eyes fell on the hard jawline of Javier. His smile imdiately faded with the cold layer on his whole cover.
The change was so sudden which didn't even give her any chance to think twice about what happened just now. "Javier.."
His eyes were entirely fixed on her body. His cold look did make it feel shiver but at the sa ti, unspeakable worriedness passed through her eyes.
Her hand turned cold because of the fear that consud her. Her stomach had so sensation, which asked her to be careful in this situation but what happened so quickly?
"Are you alright? Do you need to bring water?" She asked in a polite tone but the fear and shiver were visible in her tone. Javier's hand just clinched the remote of the television tightly when he spoke, "Just get a glass of water.."
Jennifer instantly stood up and walked to the kitchen. She ca back just in a fraction of a second with her high speed and offered a glass of water to him which he gulped in just a few seconds.
Within a few minutes, his breathing beca even, which made her relax at the sa ti. She doesn't know what happens to her seeing him in such a tight spot.
Her heart was thumbing loudly, with his sour expressions, yet Jennifer didn't step back!
But now, when his tight muscles were made to relax she noticed that his grip around the remote also loosened. "Do you need more water.."
"No need." She nodded her head but sothing that really struck her mind was sothing really weird.
'Why does he always range up whenever I talk about my university days?' She saw his reaction last ti in the kitchen as well and today. It was really strange.
Jennifer wanted to ignore this and keep her face straight but it might just make her more curious to know more. No one will be able to extinguish the question, except him.
Keeping her face down, Jennifer didn't try to look into his eyes but it seems that she won't be able to hold it like this anymore.
"Javier, do you know anyone at my university? Like any person or soone?" Her query slipped out of her mouth which made him lift his eyes imdiately.
His eyes were cold yet committed a powerful aura but she didn't halt back to hear what he had to say to her. "Javier, I asked if you.. like to know soone from my university?"
"Y...Y..
