The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb! Chapter 40: Actually, I’m a Bad Zongzi
The thought of killing them and then fleeing across the world flashed through my mind. It’s very much in line with my Tomb Robber style.
Qinghan definitely wouldn’t expect that I’m a bad zongzi. If he knew, he’d probably regret it bitterly.
Watching Qinghan approach bit by bit, I’m a bit troubled about how to show my evil side as a zongzi. That’s the problem!
Should I jump off the car and stab him a few tis, or start with so opening remarks, like laughing a few tis, then proudly asking him ’Didn’t expect this, did you? I’m the big villain’.
While hesitating, Qinghan walks to the side of the car. He releases Shunfeng’s hand and walks over alone, as if wanting to say sothing.
I open the car door and step out. I can’t really kill them while sitting inside. But before making a move, it might be good to listen to what he has to say.
Of course, if he’s smart enough and doesn’t obstruct from heading towards freedom alone, I might show so rcy.
Qinghan signals for to chat alone with him at the back of the car. I cautiously watch his every move to prevent a sudden attack.
"Have you ever killed soone?" Qinghan asks with an expression that’s extrely casual, as if he’s rely asking ’Have you ever boasted before?’
Strictly speaking, I haven’t killed anyone. Those few who were scared to death by shouldn’t count.
But I’ve witnessed many murder scenes. Just as reading thousands of books makes one write like a god, it should be the sa for wielding a knife.
"If you haven’t, that’s okay. I can get you a fake identity, with records and everything. Do not reveal your true identity to anyone."
"Who does ’anyone’ refer to?"
"You and . Don’t let a third person know."
If it weren’t for his sincere eyes, I’d suspect he already knows my intentions and is playing a delaying strategy.
"Do you know who I am?" I ask with a hint of anticipation.
"I don’t know, but we can investigate. Plus, that thing hunting you won’t give up easily. I know a place that’s very safe. I suggest you hide there."
"Really?"
"It’s safer than staying outside."
"But that thing suddenly started fighting with Boss Lu and ignored . How can you say it will continue to hunt ?"
Qinghan looks at Shunfeng, who’s turned away hiding from the snow, and at the ’hostage’ curled up in the car, then softly says:
"The design of that ancient tomb is not just to prevent outsiders from entering, but to prevent those inside from leaving."
"Yeah, Tomb Robbers who go in never co out; it has always been like this."
Qinghan lowers his gaze to look at , as if he’s looking at a child who can’t get the answer right.
"The tomb is designed to prevent... you." He reveals the truth with a helpless expression.
"? Don’t be ridiculous, I am from the tomb—"
"I ntioned that this tomb is different from other Heavenly Maiden Tombs because it isn’t a grave at all. It’s a prison."
If you put it that way, I have no argunt. For thousands of years, it has indeed been like a cage, trapping within, unable to die, unable to escape.
Moreover, there’s not a single burial item. If it were soone insignificant, why build such a complex and precise chanism to guard an ancient tomb?
If it were royalty, not even a single pot or pan can be found inside.
"My friend found tombstones and symbols in other Heavenly Maiden Tombs. Although the text on the stones hasn’t been deciphered yet, they likely prove the identity of the tomb’s owner. Tombs without any identity proof or burial items usually belong to disgraced individuals."
"Ah~" With his explanation, I suddenly recall a movie where the mummy angered the Pharaoh, and the coffin was inscribed with ’He is unworthy of a na’ or sothing like that.
"What did you rember?"
"Nothing, just a movie."
"Though not absolute, the likelihood is high. Originally, it was just my guess until that thing kept chasing you, targeting you most aggressively, then I dared to be sure it wasn’t just randomly left in the sand sea. Its existence is B-plan made by the tomb builders; if the tomb gets destroyed, it awakens to hunt you outside."
I greatly admire Qinghan’s imagination; his mind shouldn’t be wasted as a professor, maybe writing novels would suit him better.
It’s the first ti I’ve heard that the Tomb Guardian Beast exists to hunt the tomb owner.
But what Qinghan says makes sense; better safe than sorry, it wouldn’t hurt to hide where he says is safe.
"Why are you helping ?"
"Helping you gives a glimr of hope. I’ll explain this to you in detail later."
"Alright then, I won’t owe you a favor for nothing."
Receiving help without a reason always makes one uneasy. Creating an identity and records for soone is no small favor; if Qinghan said he asks for nothing, I’d rather not follow him.
The outside world is different from the tomb, with many more unknowns and dangers. I admit that while I yearn for freedom, there’s a vague sense of unease.
The allure of a fake identity, combined with Qinghan’s ’guarantee,’ leads to decide to take a gamble.
We release the ’hostage’ and get into the sa car to enter the nearest village, buy a ton of food and drinks, then continue on our way.
With them driving, shopping, and staying at hotels in the city, it’s Qinghan who communicates while I realize I oversimplified the situation.
If I were to run away alone, I’d face language barriers, lack of docuntation, and being penniless. I would likely end up stranded in a foreign land.
By staying with Qinghan and the others, I don’t have to worry about a thing.
We routed from the northern mountain area of UN to the Capital, where we stayed a few days to rest.
To be precise, Qinghan spent a few days in the hospital, Shunfeng went shopping for several days, and Wen Jing indulged in delicacies for several days.
While I stayed at the hotel surfing the net on my phone, indulging in a small way.
Qinghan secretly tells we’re waiting for my new identity because crossing borders without complete docuntation is tough.
Upon leaving UN, we each gained sothing: Qinghan recovered his health, I got new docunts hot off the press, Shunfeng bought a pile of fake antiques, and Wen Jing ended up with an upset stomach, spending her last night in the hotel bathroom.
I asked Qinghan if Miss Scream’s disappearance would anger her father because as long as Qinghan doesn’t turn over to the state, he’s still my teammate, and I’ll consider his safety.
Qinghan said that disappearing is better, especially since Boss Lu is also missing. With both of them gone, we’re actually safer.
It’s just like Boss Lu originally wanting Wen Jing and Shunfeng to take the bla. The difference is, Boss Lu wanted to kill them to silence them, while Qinghan is harmless. Miss Scream being controlled by Eyes of Golden Fla was an unexpected occurrence.
The reason Boss Lu entered the Gate of Death is still unknown to , but it doesn’t concern us.
On the last night before leaving, I happened to dream of the Gate of Death slowly opening, with a flood of blood rushing out, and soone calling my na.
Dreaming is an incredibly mystical phenonon. The language spoken by the dream person was unfamiliar, yet I knew it was my na, but waking up, I simply couldn’t recall what my na was.
