Karmic Fire’s energy reserves are limited, so unless it involves a serious issue, I don’t want to waste energy on unrelated matters.

But Big Mao only rubbed his bald head and continued pulling forward.

"I still have to find soone. Where are you taking ?" I asked with my mouth, while my eyes kept scanning the surroundings. The water here flows gently, and it’s not deep, so if soone were in the water or on the shore, I’d basically be able to see them.

If Big Mao can pull , maybe it also pulled Qinghan. Thinking that way, I gave up the idea of shaking it off, letting it lead like an adult leads a child, back to its ’nest’.

I can sense so creatures’ ’thoughts’, but I can’t directly peer into their brains, so unless they willingly ’speak’, I can’t know what they’re thinking.

What I can receive are their ’thought expressions’ that can be transford into language; things like mories and emotions, I can’t peek at.

For example, the creature before , its thoughts are silent, so I have no way to ’listen’ to its thoughts.

We walked along the riverbank for twenty minutes, arriving at a door carved into the shape of a beast’s head. The beast’s head looks a lot like this Big Mao, with sharp horns, round eyes like copper bells, big nostrils, and sausage lips.

With a photo on its own front door, it’s impossible to walk into the wrong door...

Big Mao pulled through the door, and inside was a different world: a straight corridor with opposing stone doors on both sides, door fras inlaid with pink, deep purple, or dark red glowing stones.

From inside the stone doors, bursts of coquettish laughter occasionally erged, clearly the voices of young won.

"What kind of place is this? I don’t want a massage, and I don’t want a hair wash..." Suddenly, a sense of retreat arose in my heart, but thinking that the missing Qinghan might be here, I went into this eerie building with a critical mindset.

"Qinghan? Where are you? If you can’t speak, knock on the wall!" Looking at the tightly closed stone doors, listening to the creepy laughter behind them, I decided to shout, to not miss the best chance for rescue.

My shout caused the laughter behind the doors to pause collectively for two seconds, an extrely eerie two seconds.

But there was no sound of knocking on the wall, I didn’t know if Qinghan wasn’t inside, or if he was still not in his right mind.

Big Mao led to a room at the end of the corridor, and halfway there I slled the scent of blood in the air. Standing at the doorway, the sll was even more intense, so intense that I suspected this was actually a blood bank.

If these creatures fed on blood, then this might be their pantry. Thinking that Qinghan might be inside, I didn’t refuse and followed Big Mao’s strength, walking into the slowly opening stone door.

Big Mao put down and turned away, I hurriedly searched around the room. Hooks were nailed to the walls on both sides of the room, but judging by their size, they were surely not for hanging clothes.

And the hooks were stained with dark brown powder, so I guessed these were for hanging living creatures.

Beneath the hooks, slightly to the left, there was a half-human high stone platform, very much like a hospital bedside table.

In the center of the room was a stone trough, several tis larger than the one where the Big-headed Bird placed bodies; the strong scent of blood emanated from this trough.

The hooks were high, the trough was low, and there was a channel like a waterway under the hooks, connecting to the trough.

If you hang a living person on the hook, insert a tube at the pulse to guide fresh blood into the channel, the blood would flow into the trough, filling the blood pool.

I checked each hook and found no fresh bloodstains, and the blood in the trough had already deteriorated and stank.

It seed they hadn’t poured new blood in for so days, since Qinghan wasn’t here, I had no reason to stay, and I went to the door wanting to push it open and leave.

I pushed twice, but it didn’t open, as if it was stuck. When I ca in earlier, Big Mao pushed it open directly, could it have barred the door from outside?

Now there are two possibilities: one, Qinghan wasn’t brought here, and two, Big Mao separated and detained us.

I was wondering whether to use Karmic Fire to break the door, when suddenly I heard a man’s scream outside, so tragic it sent chills down one’s spine.

The scream was distorted, I couldn’t tell if it was Qinghan’s scream. Ever since I knew him, I hadn’t heard him make a similar sound, but it’s possible he’s lost his mind now, and acting strangely.

I placed my palm at the door hinge, burned through it with two puffs, then grabbed the hole made by the burn and pulled the door open from the other side.
