Chapter 1624: Chapter 1624: Benefactor
“Miss Su!”
The Prince stared at Su Yunjin, his gaze veiled and unreadable. Just monts ago, Su Yunjin had called out “Husband,” words the Prince heard clearly. Her voice carried a distinct joy.
A sound she had never expressed in his presence before.
An inexplicable irritation stirred within the Prince.
Su Yunjin hadn’t expected to see the Prince. Startled for a brief mont, Su Yunjin finally spoke, “Master Chu, why is it you?” Her expression was filled with surprise.
“Miss Su, is my appearance here such a surprise to you?” The Prince’s eyes deepened as he looked at Su Yunjin, their murky depths unreadable. To him, Su Yunjin felt like a stranger now, her gaze distant and detached.
All of a sudden, the Prince felt as though Su Yunjin, clearly within reach, was separated from him by an insurmountable gulf.
The Prince gazed intently at her, his focus unnerving. Su Yunjin, feeling uncomfortable under his scrutiny, instinctively retreated a step. “Master Chu, is there so matter you wish to address? If so, might I trouble you to speak now? If not, then I must ask that you refrain from entering my ho.”
The last ti they had t, she had made her intentions crystal clear, urging the Prince not to seek her out again. Su Yunjin believed she’d conveyed her aning beyond any ambiguity, and yet, here he was once more. Her tone was cloaked in indifference and detachnt, sothing the Prince could not possibly overlook.
Feigning ignorance, the Prince countered, “Miss Su, a visitor is a guest. Are you truly denying the courtesy of entering and sharing even a cup of hot tea?” The more she tried to elude him, the less inclined he was to let her succeed.
He showed no inclination to leave as he fixed his gaze upon her. Su Yunjin’s annoyance flared. “Master Chu, my husband is not ho. I am but a lone woman, and inviting you inside might provoke unwelco speculation.”
“Unwelco speculation?”
The Prince repeated her words with a trace of amusent. “Miss Su, the last ti you were unconscious, it was I who ca with my n to rescue you. As your savior, one might consider at least half a benefactor of your life. And yet, Miss Su, when your benefactor pays a visit, you refuse to offer even a humble cup of tea? Is this how you treat your guests?”
Su Yunjin had no knowledge of the day’s events when she’d fallen unconscious, of the Prince’s involvent in her rescue. Aunt Bao had made no ntion of it to her, and neither had Gu Ya brought it up before her.
The Prince’s sudden ntion of the matter left Su Yunjin sowhat stunned. She turned to him with a questioning look. “A benefactor? Master Chu, what exactly do you an by these words?”
Instinctively, the Prince glanced at Aunt Bao—could it be that she hadn’t revealed how he and his n had saved Su Yunjin? At the sa mont, Su Yunjin also directed her gaze toward Aunt Bao.
Caught in the combined scrutiny of both their gazes, Aunt Bao visibly faltered, her guilt betrayed by the beads of sweat forming on her brow. Seeing this, the Prince was increasingly sure of his guess.
After her initial shock, Su Yunjin hesitantly turned to inquire of Aunt Bao.
“The day I fell unconscious—was it the Prince who saved ?” Su Yunjin’s unwavering stare fastened on Aunt Bao. No matter how she thought it over, she found it hard to fathom that it had been the Prince and his n who had co to her aid that day.
Realizing she could hide the truth no longer, Aunt Bao reluctantly nodded in acknowledgnt. “Madam, that day it was indeed the Prince who rescued you.” Her confirmation settled the matter.
The Prince once again turned his attention toward Su Yunjin.
“Miss Su, now that you know I am your benefactor, will you invite to step inside for tea?” The Prince seed pleased with himself, awaiting her response.
Su Yunjin remained silent for a brief mont before once again refusing his request. “Apologies, Your Highness, but I still cannot invite you inside.” The Prince’s expression stiffened instantly, his handso face frozen in discontent.
