Chapter 1133: Chapter 956, Worrying
“What are you all doing?”
The day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, Daohua took advantage of the holiday and invited the officials’ families of Liangdu to the Prince Residence to appreciate chrysanthemums and eat mooncakes.
Busy until the evening, after Daohua sent the guests away, she returned to her room and saw that the maids and old won were busily working on sothing, while Xiao Yeyang was holding Daozi at the side, occasionally giving so directions.
When Daozi saw his mother return, he imdiately pointed excitedly at the small kang bed the old won were tidying up and said, “Bed, mine!”
Daohua gave Xiao Yeyang a sideways glance: “Just go ahead and trick your son. He woke up crying this morning; you can go and soothe him yourself.”
Xiao Yeyang coughed lightly: “He cries because he can’t see us. He definitely won’t cry if he knows we are right here in the room.”
He sounded certain, but Xiao Yeyang also felt sowhat uncertain in his heart. He looked at the chubby little one in his arms and admonished him, “A man should bleed and not shed tears; in the future, you’re not allowed to cry indiscriminately.”
Listening to Xiao Yeyang, Daohua was speechless and walked over to take her son: “How old is he, can he understand any of this?”
Xiao Yeyang laughed: “Aren’t the things I say much easier to understand than the storybooks you read to him every day?”
Daohua: “I didn’t expect my son to understand when I tell stories. I just want him to get an impression and to learn how to speak.” Saying this, she played with Daozi a bit, then took the milk custard that Guyu brought over and fed her son spoon by spoon.
Seeing Daozi eating with relish, Xiao Yeyang sat down beside them and picked up a cloth to wipe his mouth.
Daozi was eating nicely, but Xiao Yeyang kept wiping his mouth, which interfered with his eating; the little guy imdiately beca disgruntled, waved his arms twice, and bossily shooed him away: “Go!”
Daohua imdiately laughed: “He’s telling you to go away.”
Xiao Yeyang ‘tsk’ed, pinched his son’s nose: “Good intentions treated like a donkey’s liver and lungs.” After speaking, he didn’t continue to tease his son.
“By the way, I heard that you bought tens of thousands of acres of barren land?”
Daohua didn’t even lift her head: “The Wei Family’s land is good, but I’m worried about buying too much and affecting you, aren’t I?”
Xiao Yeyang: “That land was originally going to be sold publicly, whether you buy it or soone else, it’s all the sa; who dares say anything?”
Daohua: “Let’s forget about it. Strictly speaking, you were parachuted into Xiliang and you have already taken up a lot of people’s interests. There is no need to compete with the local officials and gentry over land anymore. Buying two estates and a ranch is enough.”
Hearing this from Daohua, Xiao Yeyang didn’t say anything more, but just asked: “What are you going to do with so much barren land?”
Daohua smiled: “I’ve sent people to explore, and there are quite a few rivers around Liangdu. With that land, I can build canals, and in a few years, the barren land can beco fertile. Although the initial investnt might be large, we can grow corn and potatoes, the losses won’t be much.”
“I’ve thought it all through. I want to transform those tens of thousands of acres into a high-yielding grain breeding base. That way, Xiliang won’t need to continue transporting high-yielding grains from Beijing. The fortresses will also be able to promote this.”
Now, high-yielding grains are distributed by the authorities, mainly prioritizing the fortresses, and the common people hardly have a chance.
There is no other way, the fortresses have the task of supplying the Border Army’s grain and must be served first.
As for the common people, it’s not that they can’t buy any at all. The Four Seasons Seed Store that Daohua opened is able to sell them, just in very small quantities.
Seeing Daohua having such plans, Xiao Yeyang naturally supported with both hands: “As long as you are confident about it.”
When Daozi saw his parents talking and ignoring him, he imdiately made “Ah ah” sounds to make his presence known.
Daohua looked at her son with a smile, feeding him the last spoonful of milk: “All gone.”
Daozi stuck out his small, capable tongue, licked his lips as if he wanted more, but did not fuss for more. First, his stomach was already full, and secondly, he knew his mother would only feed him a small bowl each ti, and fussing would be useless.
That night, after Daohua put Daozi to sleep, Xiao Yeyang carefully moved the child onto the small kang bed. A railing had been installed beside the kang so that they didn’t worry about the little one rolling off.
“Is this okay?”
Daohua was sowhat worried: “What if the little one kicks off the blankets at night?”
Xiao Yeyang was also sowhat hesitant: “He won’t; the little stinker’s sleeping posture is quite good.” Seeing Daohua was very concerned, he said, “Let’s try it out for tonight.”
Daohua nodded: “That’s the only way.”
That night, Daohua and Xiao Yeyang both had trouble sleeping. They kept getting out of bed to check on Daozi, only going back to sleep when they saw he was resting well.
The next morning, when Daozi woke up, he began to cry upon opening his eyes and not seeing his parents.
“What’s wrong, what’s wrong? Daddy and Mommy are both here!”
The mont their son started crying, Xiao Yeyang woke up with a start, quickly reached the small kang (heated bed), and picked him up.
Daozi, who had only cried out twice, stopped crying abruptly as soon as he saw his father, his face tear-stained and sowhat bewildered, ‘Is Daddy by my side?’
“Bring the child up here.”
Xiao Yeyang handed Daozi to Daohua and lay back down on the kang himself.
Daohua tucked the blanket over their son and gently asked, “Why are you crying?”
Curling up in his mother’s arms, Daozi pouted, “I want Mommy, I want Daddy.”
Daohua smiled and said, “Mommy and Daddy are both here, you know.”
Daozi lifted his head to glance at the small kang beside them and then snuggled back into Daohua’s embrace, “Together.”
Continuing with a smile, Daohua asked, “Does Daozi want to sleep with Mommy and Daddy together, is that it?”
Daozi imdiately nodded, “Sleep together!”
Daohua glanced at Xiao Yeyang, and, not wishing Daohua to agree, Xiao Yeyang quickly picked up their son and said, “You’re a big boy now, big boys should sleep by themselves.”
Displeased, Daozi pushed Xiao Yeyang away, “Don’t want to,” and deftly leaned back into Daohua’s embrace.
Xiao Yeyang felt sowhat helpless, sensing that getting their son to sleep separately was going to be a daunting task.
Daohua started to dress Daozi, “Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival. Soon, your big uncle and big aunt will co over, and you’ll need to greet them.”
Laying in his mother’s arms, Daozi obediently let Daohua dress him, “I want to eat cakes.”
Hearing this, Daohua instantly kissed her son’s cheek with a laugh, “Right, we eat mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival.” She had only ntioned it in passing to him yesterday, and the little guy had rembered.
…
After the Mid-Autumn Festival, the weather in Xiliang began to cool down.
Having arranged all matters concerning the opening up of wasteland, Daohua found herself with so free ti, her days filled with managing household affairs and accompanying little Daozi.
Daozi was walking more steadily now, always needing soone by his side.
“Great Ancestor, Great Ancestor!”
Gu Jian was soone who couldn’t stay idle. After Daohua opened up a pharmacy in Liangdu, he started to sit for consultations there again.
Just today, upon returning, Gu Jian saw Daozi running towards him with a ‘tum tum tum.’ Worried that he might fall, Gu Jian had to et him halfway.
Watching her son plunge into Gu Jian’s arms, Daohua, following behind, said, “Master, Daozi is getting stronger. Next ti, don’t catch him.”
Gu Jian glared at his apprentice, “Should I just let him fall to the ground?”
Daohua: “…You could let Dongli catch him?” Her son now ran like a small cannonball, and she really feared that he might accidentally knock the old man over with too much force.
Gu Jian ignored his apprentice and lifted Daozi up, saying with a beaming smile, “Let’s go, the Great Ancestor will take Daozi to pick flowers.”
Daozi imdiately clapped his hands in agreent, “Let’s go, let’s go!”
A look of resignation on her face, Daohua followed them, “Master, please be careful.” With one old and one young, her heart was truly breaking with worry.
Dongli followed behind with a smile. Ever since the arrival of the Little Prince, the old master’s spirits had greatly improved.
