The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne Chapter 880: Sudden Arrest
"Done."
Cedric set the pen down on the table and let out a long sigh.
He had merely signed a document, yet it felt as though he had just made a deal with the Demon King.
"Hehehe..." Jakes grinned from ear to ear. He took the document, examined it carefully, and nodded in satisfaction. "Thank you, Prince Cedric. I’ll never forget this favor. And don’t worry, I’m not asking for your help for free."
He reached into his pocket, pulled out a gold card, and handed it to Cedric.
"There are two hundred million Sharn on it. Use it to fund your campaign for the throne, or spend it however you see fit. It’s entirely up to you."
"Two hundred million Sharn?" Cedric’s eyes widened.
His heart pounded as he stared at the golden card. He had always known Jakes was incredibly wealthy, but receiving two hundred million Sharn so easily still felt unreal.
Even the Ashvale family wouldn’t have been this generous.
A moment later, he came back to his senses and accepted the card.
"Thank you, Jakes. I hope your business goes well."
At that moment, he no longer cared about morality or the guilt of helping Jakes expand his slave trade.
Jakes was truly clever and cunning. He understood human nature all too well.
A faint smirk appeared on Jakes’ face.
"You’re wele, Your Highness. Consider it a small gift. I’ll have even better gifts for you in the future, so don’t worry."
Hearing that promise, Cedric merely smiled without much enthusiasm.
Whether Jakes truly meant those words or not, no one could say. Cedric didn’t want to get his hopes up.
Even so, he found himself looking forward to it.
Once they finished their wine, they both stood.
"It’s been a pleasure working with you, Your Highness."
Jakes extended his right hand.
"The pleasure is mine, Jakes."
Cedric reached out as well, and the two shook hands.
Both of them had gotten what they wanted.
Of course, Cedric would never have dared to sign those documents without Margaretta’s guidance beforehand.
She had told him that he would e out ahead in this meeting.
Although Jakes’ request had been far beyond his expectations, he still obtained what he came for—just as Margaretta had foreseen.
Just as the two were about to leave the VIP room, a motion broke out outside.
"N-No, you can’t go in!"
"Sir, please don’t make this difficult for me! This is Mermaid’s Tear Restaurant, and we have the right to refuse entry!"
"N-No! Don’t!"
Before Jakes or Cedric could react, the beautifully carved wooden door was kicked open with a loud bang.
Bang!
Jakes and Cedric froze.
A man clad in black armor, with a sheathed sword at his waist, strode into the room. His mere presence made the atmosphere instantly tense.
Twenty soldiers followed close behind, quickly filling the VIP room until it felt cramped and suffocating.
The moment Jakes and Cedric saw them, the color drained from their faces.
However, Jakes quickly regained his posure and pointed angrily at the man leading them.
"Who are you!? Do you have any idea what you’re doing!?" he shouted.
The man ignored Jakes’ outburst. His calm gaze swept over Jakes and Cedric before he spoke in an indifferent tone.
"I have a warrant for the arrest of both of you. e with us."
Jakes and Cedric were stunned and instinctively exchanged glances.
"W-What do you mean?" Jakes asked warily.
The man offered no further explanation. Instead, he ordered the soldiers behind him to arrest them.
"Damn it! Let me go! Don’t you know who I am!? I’m Jakes! No one has the right to arrest me!" Jakes roared, struggling desperately to break free.
But it was useless.
Cedric was taken into custody as well, but he didn’t resist. His expression stayed calm, though his heart pounded.
He knew his life was over.
He just didn’t know who had orchestrated all of this.
Then, the warning letter his uncle had sent that morning suddenly flashed through his mind.
His expression turned grim as his breathing grew heavier.
"Nolan..." he muttered through gritted teeth, unable to hide the hatred in his voice.
Given the hostility between them, Cedric was certain that only Nolan could have orchestrated all of this.
He just hadn’t expected Nolan to make his move at the exact moment he was meeting with Jakes.
Had Nolan planted a spy among his people?
Or was there another explanation?
No matter how much he thought about it, Cedric still couldn’t find the answer.
"Take them away and throw them in prison," the squad leader ordered indifferently.
His subordinates nodded and dragged the two men away.
"Let me go! You’ve got the wrong people! Aren’t you afraid of the consequences!?"
"You bastards! Let me go!"
The black-armored soldiers ignored his shouts and continued dragging Jakes and Cedric out of the restaurant.
...
Fifteen minutes ago...
Nolan sat fortably on the sofa while two beautiful women massaged his back and legs.
"Move a little to the right, Malverna. That’s it... right there," Nolan said, closing his eyes in satisfaction.
The corner of Malverna’s mouth twitched.
She had once been the most feared Demon Empress, yet now she was reduced to massaging this smelly man.
But what choice did she have?
Nolan was her master, and she had no choice but to obey his orders.
Unlike Malverna, Obsidia sat on the floor and calmly massaged Nolan’s legs.
She showed no trace of anger, as though this were perfectly normal for her.
Whoosh!
A black shadow appeared before them. It was none other than Arnold. He dropped to one knee and lowered his head.
"My Lord."
Nolan slowly opened his eyes and looked at him calmly before giving a slight nod.
"Is it done?"
"Right now, the two of them are discussing Jakes’ plan to expand his slave trade."
Nolan simply smiled when he heard that. Thanks to the memories he had obtained from the blond-haired man, he already knew Jakes was involved in the slave trade.
"Did you record everything?"
"Yes, my Lord."
"Good. Did you find any other evidence?"
Arnold bowed his head and said, "I’ve gathered more than a hundred pieces of evidence against Jakes. Some are minor, like the slaughter of a family in the town of Erdur. Others show his worst crime, the slave trade."
He paused for a moment, then went on, "He also has a headquarters in the southwestern part of the northern region, where hundreds of women and children are being held as slaves. I’ve already placed one of my shadows there, so I can teleport there whenever I want."
Nolan let out a soft chuckle. Jakes’ crimes were beyond imagination. Death alone was too light a punishment for someone like him.
"I understand. In that case, gather all the evidence into a single file and deliver it to Jorgan of the Phantom Chain Union in the imperial capital. As for the location..."
He told Arnold where the Phantom Chain’s headquarters was.
"Understood. It’ll be done within ten minutes," Arnold replied confidently.
Satisfied, Nolan waved his hand.
Arnold transformed into a beam of light and disappeared.
Nolan looked up at the ceiling and murmured, "It’s time for the empire to face an unprecedented upheaval. This should be interesting."
