Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Starvation Will be Everywhere

Furthermore, Ya Molian reassured the elders over and over again that she would certainly protect Lin Caisang and not let her co to any harm.

Early the next morning, Lin Caisang set out with Ya Molian, who had co to fetch her.

“Where are you going? I’ll accompany you.”

As soon as they left the village, Ya Molian saw Lin Caisang heading towards the town instead of the mountain first. Imdiately he asked,

“I need to pick up so herbs from the town’s dicine shop,” Lin Caisang replied.

Of course she’s heading to Jianan City to make a big profit with quality goods; otherwise she wouldn’t have co so far with a so-called wolf like him. Didn’t he see the twinkling eyes of her granny when she looked at them both?

She was so pleased, as if Ya Molian was already her grandson-in-law.

“What do you lack? I’ll send soone to buy it.” Ya Molian offered directly.

Sowhere hidden in the shadows, Zhe Jue said, “…”

Lord, besides ordering us around, can you do so important work? You are sitting here, involved in this childish love story, while we who deal with important stuff daily are left as free laborers.

Then again, to the lord, he is not a free laborer at all.

Oh well, he better keep his mouth shut.

Hearing his words, Lin Caisang gave it so thought and then nodded her head.

On such a rainy day, letting her walk all the way to the Yueya Town market, wearing raincoats, must be tiring. It’s better to leave this task to Ya Molian.

Anyway, they had pretty much shared all secrets; she could trust him with the purchase of these few herbs.

“Alright, let’s go to the bamboo house first.”

About half an hour later, at the bamboo house,

Ya Molian was helping Lin Caisang dry her slightly damp hair with a fresh white towel. They were sitting in the hall, listening to the pitter-patter of the rain outside and chatting about trivial matters.

Poor Zhe Jue, holding a list of herbs, was rushing to the Yueya Town market. He was practically on the brink of tears.

“This rain is such a nuisance. Even stepping outside is inconvenient.”

At the mont, the straw shoes of Lin Caisang had been taken off and replaced by a new pair that Ya Molian had prepared for her. Being in the bamboo house with the ongoing rain outside was giving her a sense of dampness, making her uncomfortable physically and ntally.

“I detest this kind of rainy day.”

“If it weren’t for this rain, there would be starvation all over Yejun,” said Ya Molian, stating a hard truth, yet in a calm tone.

Lin Caisang: “…”

Indeed, she couldn’t argue against that.

If it weren’t for the rainfall during this season, there wouldn’t be a single grain to harvest in Yejun. They’d probably be left gnawing at tree bark.

“Harumph, isn’t it all because of the governnt’s incompetence?” she scoffed, rolling her eyes.

Not just Yejun, there are several counties centred around Yejun in Liang Kingdom suffering from the sa climate. The ordinary people are the ones suffering, but when has the governnt ever cared?

“People either die in the flood or the drought, why can’t they dig more ponds to store water in the flood season and use it in the drought? Look at that twenty-acre pond on Manghuang Mountain, it didn’t cost much to make, isn’t it enough to supply water to three hundred acres of farmland, or even the whole village during dry seasons?”

She looked at Ya Molian and voiced her dissatisfaction.

Anyone with a bit of intelligence would know about this solution, but over all these years, no one has taken the initiative to dig ponds for water storage. They would rather wait till there was a severe drought and resort to eating tree bark and grass roots.
